Before specialist niche tents are recommended – I’m going camping with Mrs.Yosh and friends in a couple of weeks only for 2 nights. You know, pubs, GoApe, BBQ by ther lake etc. Mrs.Yosh has never camped and worries where she’ll plug in her hairdryer and stuff but she’s willing to give it a go.

I’ve got a 2 man tent used for festivals / fishing etc so not that great. I want to help Mrs.Yosh enjoy it with a view to getting her camping more and therefore want a fairly spacious tent with a big awning, hopefully with a built-in groundsheet.

But at the same time I don’t want to spend lots if it’s hardly going to get used again.

So, as per the thread title please.

    Thanks

Halfords. Massive tent sale going on right now. Cheap as chips, apparently.

I would check out offers at your nearest Go Outdoors store

    http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/camping/tents/3-4-person-tents

Halfords also offer a reasonable choice of tents and have a sale on at the moment

Mrs FD was the same before I pursuaded her to come to Mountain Mayhem. We bought the one below for £160 which is a bargain! Its a big tent, but was ideal for Mrs FD, Jnr FD and myself. I wasn’t expecting much of for the money, but I was very impressed with the quality, which put it more in the £300+ bracket family tent range.

Mrs FD has actually said we can go camping again in September, which surprised the heck out of me!

Gelert Nemisis 8. Just google it and you can get it for £160 delivered.

I asked on here about tents the other day:
    http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/talk-to-me-about-four-berth-tents-for-family-camping

In the end I bought mine from http://www.a2zcamping.co.uk/

They do ex-demo and factory seconds – so I was able to get a 6-man £250 RRP tent for £120.

If you Like them on FaceBook then you get an additional 10% off.

    Corona6 – £60
    Evolution 400 – £70
    Trial 400 – £72

Thanks guys – particularly liking the look of the Evolution 400 – I think that should be plenty big enough for the 2 of us – as it’s only 2 of us I’m not really into seperate bedrooms – just one bedroom area and a big living area (well you know, big for a 4 man tent)

Edit: Let me sort out the grammer

Yeah we started by looking at the Evolution 400. We saw it at the local camping store at it is definitely plenty big enough for two.

There is also an Evolution 400 Plus – which is very similar but has a few little upgrades (little arches over the doors, insect nets, more windows).

And there is a DL version, which is like a stretched 400, same size bedroom but has a bigger living area.

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk has good user reviews for just about every tent out there.

Got a SoulPad, expensive, so not your thing, but we like our comforts, so OH has recently acquired one of these

for electrical bobbins – about £30 I believe.
also we have an electric cool box (mains and car powered) from halford’s in a sale. They’re on sale now but not as cheapa s they were. Still recommended though, use car to power it then without power it will keep stuff good and cold for a day

And Grahams’s link up there ^^ is also good for campsites

GrahanS top tip with a2zcamping! Just bought the best classic weekender tent on the planet http://www.a2zcamping.co.uk/2-3-berth-tents/sunncamp-mx-tourer-tent.htm

It’s massive, I can fit several bikes in it for the full on pro pits set up. £60 delivered!

I’ve got a sunncamp evo 300, had it for years. Its been to alps a couple of times and slept 4 of use once (without the inner sleeping compartment in) and its done a few festivals. Its got a decent porch bit with a fully sewn in groundsheet. I imagine the 400 is huge.

Never got wet on whilst sleeping in it, even in torrential rain for a few days in the alps. When i took it down I had to bail out about a gallon of water from inside the main compartment, but the sleeping area remained dry.

I recent bought a quechua pop up 3 man jobbie. Used it at beatherder last weekend where it rained alot. It also never leaked. Dead easy to put up and take down aswell.

Halfords, Go Outdoors, and Decathlon- the cheap trinity. Good basic stuff that works well.

Another vote for Decathlon – I got my last tent from there, they had a half price sale on. Got a nearly £200 Vango for £80 (I had a discount voucher as well so got an extra 10% off on top of the half price deal 🙂 )

Halfords and Go Outdoors will always have similar deals on and usually price match.

    Nice one and good choice!

We did a test pitch of our new Evo 600 at the weekend.

All present and correct and in perfect condition. The “small marks to flysheet” that earned the hefty discount were just some minuscule rust marks.

So top marks to a2zcamping – would buy again etc etc.

By the way ASDA have got a ton of camping stuff on sale. We picked up some little LED tent lights for £1.50 each (rubberised, magnetic back, comes with AAA batteries. Battery compartment screws on, so nice and safe for the kids bedroom).

I want to help Mrs.Yosh enjoy it

Then budget in a double air bed, cheap as chips from the like of Aldi (if in stock), and make all the difference to a comfy night sleep.
It also doubles up as a spare bed for house guests.

Pretty sure decathlon give these away free outside their stores? Theres always at least one free tent in the carpark. usually no storage bag or spare pegs with them mind.
