190W? That’s a tad underpowered. Even pedal assist bikes have more than that.

Front and rear disc brakes provide 100% stopping power

100% of what? do those brakes with 90% never actually bring you to a stop?

£600! You could buy a bike for that!

What advantage dues the X1 have over this and some sort of poncho?

10% of stopping power would need to supplied by an external force…

A dragging of your shoe on the gound.

    # A super efficient MCR pancake motor is linked to rear wheel by fixed gear drive chain (motor rated at 190 watts, wheel size: 16″)

A motor driven by pancakes…that’s pretty impressive.

I like it! Cycling in a dry, cosy, carbon fibre bubble? Bring it on 🙂

It’s also pretty good for the cash IMHO.

I’d like to be able to see behind me though 😐

<Nelson>haha</N> Not sure about taking it through the chicanes on cycle paths…still, it would stop traffic so you’d probably be pretty safe on road.

190W is going to take a loong time to get 30kgs up to speed!

STW in predictable “slag off what we don’t understand” shocker.

Might well appeal to quite a lot of folk.
190W is a fair bit is it not – eg max power tests are around 500W for a very fit cyclist?
    30kg sounds reasonable for a fairing’d bike.
100% braking is nonsense of course but worse is written and read daily in mtb mags.

CS has achieved more while during a visit to the toilet than most of us in a lifetime.

    END OF THREAD.

Where on earth would you keep it??

it actually looks pretty good value, especially on cycle to work! Certainly cheaper than something like this

No. 190W is a low-ish long distance power. I can do maybe 210W for three or four hours. But remember that’s MAX power. If I am pulling away from traffic lights I’ll be easily doing 4-500W, as would any of you. If I sprint as hard as I can peak at 1300W. Even a non-sprinter would be 8-900W easily. 190W will be enough to propel that thing along reasonably but it’ll be reeeally slow off the lights which would make it a liability in traffic imo. It looks like you can pedal yourself to add to the power, but pedalling hard in that position isn’t particularly easy.

Plus I’d not ride a recumbent in traffic due to lorries etc not being able to see me and running me over. That’s even worse.

I want one. Gets over most of the reasons/excuses I use to rarely commute by bike.

Wonder if it qualifies for the cycle to work scheme ? Don’t see why not !

He made all his money and fame from microcomputers.

I want to know why he quit that and has been doing this dumb bike thing for the last 20 years.

He’s missed a dozen major revolutions in computing, any one of which could have turned him into a billionaire, and has instead focused his energy on something that is ultimately, just a bit rubbish.

Watch ‘Micro Men’. Not exactly a documentary but a fun spin on his early life.

Woody, says in the link it’s on cycle2work,
cynic-al, it’s not about understanding it, as the consumer surely cyclists fit into the target Market. As a focus group we could almost agree it’s a no go. It’s like he’s flogging a dead horse. Again. It will sell only as a novelty item, no doubt to be brought by Jay Kay and promotions companies, you could paint it in cream egg colours for Easter…

Well we’re not exactly the target demographic. We are cyclists, and we are already happy with normal bikes.

It’s aimed at folk who don’t feel like cycling.

You might, and most of us might (though I’m fairly sure I don’t have 1300W in a sprint, and not convinced I’d necessarily use 500W away from the lights), but most of the target audience for this certainly don’t. In any case, what has flat out sprinting got to do with anything – do you make a routine habit of flat-out sprinting away from the lights?

500W isn’t that hard for an instant effort, it’s certainly not flat out by any stretch.

Just giving some numbers to illustrate how much 190W isn’t. But I admit I didn’t at first notice that it had pedal assist.. so that makes a lot more sense 🙂

I hope he’s succesful. Doing all that for the price is pretty impressive, and for many unfit people 190W is a LOT of power. It will almost certainly have less drag than one of us on a MTB, so should be able to make a good speed on the flat.

Anyway, it won’t be long before after-market kits arrive to have these whizzing about illegally at 30MPH.
