What torch for dazzling car drivers?

Where I live has no street lights which mean cars come through on main beam at night. No problem with that, but when I take the dog out about half the cars go back to dipped headlights when they see me, and the other half just keep on main beam. Flashing my torch towards the cars has some impact but still a lot of muppets stay on main beam, so how do I ‘go nuclear’ with a torch 🙂

Why would you want to temporarily blind somebody who is driving a car towards you? Just cover your eyes in a dramatic fashion and they should get the point…

Err I’d probably just let them past as I wouldn’t want an on coming car driver to be temporarily blinded 😯

Wear some good reflective kit. Ankle bands are among the most effective, IMHO.

put on a hiviz and carry a hairdryer – point it at them when they go past – watch them all brake hard even if they are not speeding 😀

It’s a long straight road with a pavement so I’ll take my chances.

Put it another way: if that’s a police driver you decide to ‘school’, you may find yourself in a spot of bother. It’s a pretty stupid thing to do.

just wear dark sunglasses – then you get the benefit of looking like a movie star ( Z list celebrity ) as well as not getting blinded 8)

Still no torch suggestions? Look, I’m just trying to give inconsiderate drivers a gentle nudge, I’m not planning to burn their eyeballs out.

Its probably some old Biddy anyway who probably doesn’t even notice you. Anyway, forget the torch, so for a ‘stinger’….one of those instant roll out mats with nails in it.

Okay if it has to be a light, then one of those cheap imported magicshine lights with about 900lumens on a very narrow beam. Gives a suntan from 30 paces!

Wear a white suit and a black baraclava, and carry a watermelon head under your arm
Then just point at them as they go past..

However, you might feel slightly guilty if a few seconds later the car careers into a tree resulting in hideous life changing injuries! 😯

Cheap bright torch from deal extreme on your helmet, pointing down. If they don’t turn full-beam off, look up at them and follow the driver’s face as they drive past.

Why not go for a laser pointer,that will get their attention.
What could possibly go wrong ? 🙄

These with throw a mega bright focussed spot of light, on max focus they are virtually laser straight so don’t use it all the way.

Aldi usually sell those a one of their special buys. I’ve got one, and they are very good.

You could always fling your bag of dogs doings at the offending vehicles.

It would save you having to hang it in a hedge!

This is a fantastic little torch, amazingly bright for its size. I’ve got three of them, one always in a Fenix pouch on my belt for use at work, or as a bike light with a Twofish LockBlock. Ideal for walking with, has three modes, a low power, which would be fine for walking in total darkness, a high power mode, which throws a really good beam, and a fast strobe mode, which would be good for switching into if a driver won’t dip; you wouldn’t need to shine it straight at a car, just vaguely towards it, the flashing would be enough to get a driver’s attention.

Get a charger and several 14500* batteries, and you’re sorted.
*I recommend the 14500 batteries, as they’re 3.7v 900mAh, and are better than AA’s.

I’ve got a whole bunch of different flashlights, but that little light is just so good to use on a day-to-day basis, it’s very compact, nicely made, and very bright. I used mine on the bike this morning going to work in the fog, and is a perfect size to put in a pocket, or carry in a belt sheath; the little Fenix ones are ideal.
For the money, I can’t think of a much better light.

Why not go the whole hog and get one dem laser pens that the chavs try and bring the police chopper down wiv..,

I wear a head torch. A quick glance at the driver usually does the trick.
