So Mrs Binners arrived home last night very angry and very upset.

She’s a fundraiser for the Wildlife Trusts. She’s recently managed to secure funding from Tesco (from the 5p charge on their plastic bags – you’d be amazed how much it raises for good causes) to build a wildlife hide, to be used as a little education centre for the local kids, so the rangers can get them interested in their local wildlife.

So they get everything sorted, money in, get it all built, with disabled access etc, and they put a programme in place to get the local kids using it for the rest of the school holidays, so they can be shown the local wildlife, and take an interest in its preservation.

Then, less than 4 days after its all finished, the local scotes do this!

FFS!!! I know we should be used to this kind of thing by now. But I don’t want to get used to it. I just despair. I can’t get my head around it at all. What the **** is wrong with people?!!! Its just so bloody depressing 😥

    Bored and thick, really.

I don’t know what the immediate solution to things like this is, but the long-term solution is exactly what she’s doing – get local kids involved and interested, they’ll be less likely to do this kind of thing in future.

We do voluntary stuff in our local park, in Glasgow – some of it gets wrecked, so we do it again. Try not to take it personally or get upset, look at it as an Act of God.

It really pisses me off. The wonderful tree carvings and sculptures in Philips Park are slowly being burned or knocked down. Idiots.

However, bencooper has the right attitude – it’s not personal, shit happens, what can be done next.

I run around Lord Levers estate on the Wirral all the time and the other day I noticed somebody had pushed over one of the Bee hives. All the layers and honey combs where spread all over the floor. What is wrong with people!

Really sorry for Mrs Binners upset.

I met a road builder a while ago who was building a motorway in the UK (not going to say where as it may cause some people to mount a high horse)

There were having stuff robbed and machinery vandalised, a youth was caught red handed having set fire to a container full of tools. His quote was “If I can’t have it, you can’t have it”

I don’t know how you combat that mentality.

Dont bother. “The Wirral” is grammatically correct.

Many people appreciate the effort Mrs Binners and others have done. Dont let this stop her from continuing and trying other projects other wise the ****ers have won.

The stupid people will continue to try and bring everyone down to their level and then beat you with it!

I hope they catch whoever did it and made to build a new one

Now tell me how that is even possible, that the mother of someone can also be their sister by natural means, genius. 😆

It is utter crap. Commiserations to mrs_b and locak kids.

And I cannot get my head around the psychology of it, apart from some of my research into adolescent play. Lots of stuff in there about being hard wired to take risks and ‘placemaking’ – but the desire to do risk and placemaking is stronger than thier sense of ‘positive’ ways of doing it. This is made worse by family anf friends who do not teach them how to manage such feelings well, or encourage positive ways of taking risks(mtb anyone?) or placemaking (decorate your own room, choose your own fashion style etc)

I don’t know what the immediate solution to things like this is, but the long-term solution is exactly what she’s doing – get local kids involved and interested, they’ll be less likely to do this kind of thing in future.

    ^This.
We have schools who have similar issue, and you just have to engage more and more community in valuing the place.
I learned from a trip to Sweden many years ago that thier schools, even in ‘rough’ parts of cities have no fences, and yet have minimal issues of vandalism. The community, even the scrotes, valued the school and nursery for the care and education.
IT seems lacking in the UK at the moment.

It’s not personal it’s ignorance, as above, kids tend to destroy stuff that could benefit them as they don’t understand the value. Cos we’re a reactionary nation/culture they get taught the value of possessions, money and status and **** all else.

Still shit for your missus though.

Reminds me of the time some yoofs decapitated all the owls in the owl centre outside barrow because they were bored/stoned/dickheads. Just DAFUQ.

What the bloody hell is wrong with some people?!

It’s not people that have done it though is it?
    It’s messed up little kids..

Could be feral kids off the local estate, could be your mate’s kids kicking out at the world cos mum and dad are getting divorced or they can’t have an iphone, could be Tarquin from down the posh area rebelling cos dad gives his brother more attention.. Could be your own kids simply taking a bit of joy from destroying summink with a big fire

It’ll only ever get worse whilst there’s self righteous, angry grown men with kid’s attitudes failing to show compassion

(not having a dig at you there binners, your angry reaction is understandable)

most skate parks have to be built vandal proof ie all concrete and steel, you’d think the scrotes would “like” having the facility but oh no if it burns! We have a couple of similar hides locally, and I’m quite surprised they’ve lasted for about 5/6yrs as the scout hut/youth club in the same area lasted about a week!

Ben has the right attitude. Getting upset does nothing. That and not building things from wood if you want them to last – growing up in Norn Iron you learn that at an early age 😆

Compassion? What… like taking the time and effort raising the money to build them something they could, use in the first place, then building it, then putting a programme in place so they can get the most out of it?

    That type of thing?

    yep
    that sort of thing

    full marks! 🙂

like I said.. I don’t blame you for reacting angrily.. It’s natural

But for every person that tries to get their head around it, there’s another two queuing up to say throw ’em in the stocks or beat some sense into ’em

kids are revolting.. it’s evolution innit!

I’m just amazed at the timescale. 3 ****ing days it was there before they torched it.

She’s off into the office to try and sort this out. To try and get some more funding and get it rebuilt. Because she’s like that. The kids who were all enrolled over the next few weeks on courses with the rangers will all now have to be informed that there aren’t going to be any courses.

Its an absolute insult to her and the rest of the team who have put so much time and effort into this. Not that the people responsible will GAS of course. I doubt they do much sacrificing of time and effort to help others.

    Welcome to planet earth 2016.
In a society where it is now socially and politically unacceptable to discipline children are we really surprised when they produce this behaviour?

Its a depressing state of affairs for sure, but its what we are now stuck with.

The courses do not need cancelling – it can run without the hide, surely?

My Uncle moved to Newfoundland, Canada in the early 80s to run the power station on the island in Holyrood. He loved Newfoundland and made it his home. Over the years he became involved in the local community and Rotary Club and was well regarded and well known. After retiring he used to walk his dog Bess everywhere and was a popular chap.
A couple of years ago he had a heart attack whilst shovelling snow and died. In memory of him a stone bench was put up where he used to walk

This isn’t the only bench in the vicinity. It’s a fairly solid thing. A few weeks before we visited my Aunt in late June this year someone smashed it up. It wasn’t a random attack, apparently it was obvious where the sledgehammer had hit it. It wasn’t back in place for our visit so I didn’t see it, something I was hoping to do. It will be put back, with a third ‘leg’ in the middle for strength, but I guess this shows there’s ___________* everywhere

    *insert expletive of choice

I should add the hides in my local park are prefab affairs. Seems they had similar problems.

It’ll only ever get worse whilst there’s self righteous, angry grown men with kid’s attitudes failing to show compassion

Without reference to the original poster of the referenced sentence, I imagine if your sister was impregnated by a man who was both her and your father, she would be both your parent and sibling.

What a nightmare, they just don’t care.
Get it rebuilt in brick with steel doors. Put a big gate in as well so they can’t get at it to graffiti all over it.

That’s,such a shame, feel so sorry for your Mrs.

We’ve had the same up here. The local woods have a bike trail with a little hut/shelter built by the local trust. The buggers have trashed it. Then further round into the flood plain there’s a lovely bird hide been build, far enough out of the town that I thought the neds wouldn’t have found it but alas no, covered in graffiti & the Windows smashed in.

No respect for anything. Being bored is no excuse for such destruction.

Your missus is obviously a good egg. If anything this will raise awareness of the project and may help with raising funds. Hope she doesn’t give up.

That does not solve the problem – it just costs more (charitable) money, keeps out those who do appreciate it and turns our public spaces in to a physical fortress.

How do you get the kids to care when their parents don’t?

    mitsumonkey

I guess so but how many times can it be rebuilt before they give up and stop burning it down? It will probably cost less long term to build in brick or metal.
