Yeah first thread of many to come…. So anyone found anything worth buying this year? As my Polaris bargain ones have died & they stopped selling them.
Can’t see the point of buying goretex when they get covered in mud, and (winter) short don’t need to be particularly breathable IME.

Ha, I already reported it and they closed the other thread! Carry on!

I’ve got some old Altura 3/4’s that are still going strong, not sure if they still sell them 🙂

I have some Endura ones, quite long – 3/4 length which work well – bought them last year or maybe year before.

Royal Storm shorts here, they’re excellent. However looking at the website they’re now £100! Royal tend to have a black friday sale every year though so worth waiting for that.

I am still wearing this same pair of waterproof shorts by 7Mesh, 3 years after I reviewed them. I reckon that makes them worth considering, despite the initial outlay: https://singletrackworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/review-7mesh-womens-revo-shorts-waterproof-your-bum/

I have the mens 7mesh and really rate them. Not had them anywhere near as long as hannah though so can’t comment on longevity

Longevity seems to be the issue, I’ve had several pairs of the Altura 3/4’s, they were ace but much like the basic Polaris ones, the mud take it’s toll and they stop working effectively (after a couple of years).

Ouch at the price of those 7mesh ones! Struggling to pay that much for something that take so much abuse, and is likely to fail. TBH I’m happy with a very basic short, as long as it’s waterproof. TBH Looking at the decathlon option currently…

    7 mesh here too.

I gave up spending money on Altura, Endura and several pairs of Army surplus. Non last or perform anywhere near as well as the 7 Mesh Shorts.

I’m still using the army surplus goretex trousers I bought for £20 4 years ago and cut them down to shorts. Still waterproof. Have the name “Webb” written in them, hope she/he/they have a recent replacement

After waterproofness, my main criteria is a pair that are a little shorter in the leg, as I only have a 29inch inside leg (but a 36 inch waist)

+1 7mesh, yes chuffing expensive but look out for sale on last years colours.

I have already had them acouple of years and hammered them a few times a week October to April+ and still awesome.

Cost versus longevity / waste for me :/

Ex army goretex overtrousers cut to any lenth you like. Theres no need to stitch the cut edge. Lycra shorts of your choice underneath. Army ones are camo, raf ones dark blue. Usualy about £20 to £25. I also have some that I keep full lenth.

I’m on my second pair of Endura ones – across maybe 15 years? I don’t wear them often, store them on a hanger.

I use Gore. Sports Persuit have them on offer for £50 which is an absolute bargain

I’ve got an old pair of madison ones still going strong. Often used for wet commutes. Deffo not breathable. Only downside is they are bright orange but were in the sale on Freewheel.

@fatbikedog do you have a link to the RAF over trousers?

Another vote for 7mesh here – had mine for nearly 5 years and they are still going strong.

Pretty resilient to crashes and the one crash that resulted in damage was fixed with an iron-on goretex patch.

Initial outlay is a lot but a dry arse is worth its weight in gold.

I’ve got some Gore waterproof shorts that have been going for 15 years or so. Admittedly they don’t get used much these days, and when I was commuting > 100 miles a week they only came out on the nastiest of days, but they are still going strong and have worn really well. Not sure how they fit into todays range but

This Looks this looks a bit like them:

@monkeysfeet are there sizing guides accurate (waist wise), as they look a bargain.

    @z1ppy – those Gore shorts aren’t waterproof.

Freewheel still have some Madison zenith 4 season dwr shorts for £30 in desert colour. No idea exactly how waterproof they are but they have a 3 layer waterproof rear panel.

I bought a pair of these and they seem fine…. My MTB Altura shorts have been good. These are ‘road’ ones but I’m not sure that’s a problem.

    Only big ones left tho.

Not one to rush things, and re-fitting a rear mudguard actually cured 90% of my issues.. I’ve finally ordered some 7Mesh Revo’s on Sale by Sigmasport with an extra discount code (Edited.. SALE15). Hopefully they’re as good as everyone is suggesting above, but no way was I paying £200, and thought someone else might appreciate the discount
