Long time lurker first time poster on this thread.

When I first got a decent paying job after my PhD in 2012 or so, I went through a few luxury watches in quick succession – Explorer 1 (too small/plain), IWC Ingy Laureus (too dressy), some stupid Panerai (I do not have Sly Stallone’s wrists) and an Omega Seamaster Liquidmetal (actually wish I hadn’t sold that one).

Anyway, I then got a Tudor Ranger in 2015 – the first reissue with the open endlink bracelet, and that was it. It’s still my main watch. So sometimes you can get an exit watch.

All I’ve bought since then is a few GPS watches as my existing ones break, a second-hand Animal W002 identical to the one my cool GCSE geography teacher had, and a couple of G Shock 5600s that I sold when I realised I hate the little metal buttons.

First time poster on this thread. Watch I’ve worn for 20+ years is a Victorinox V7-00 but that’s not why I’m here.

Dad turned 21 in 1966 and this is what he wore for years, before switching to Seikos. Question is, is there anywhere in Edinburgh recommended to have a look at it, or better going online?

I’ll be the first of a lot of people who’ll recommend you to Calibre for that, excellent service : https://calibrewatchrepair.com   They have a drop off in Edinburgh

Lovely piece btw, great that you’re keeping it going.

Sorry in advance if I sound rude or insensitive, I don’t mean to be, but if your Dad is still with us you can ask them to photo the disassembly/service/reassembly process and they will.  It might be a nice thing to see.

That’s good to know. We lost dad in 2013, and sadly my mum just passed too. Found the watch while we were looking for his wedding ring.

Contacted Calibre and was very impressed by the response. He no longer offers a drop-off service in Edinburgh but a parcel arrived today with a case to post it and the provisional quote for a new mainspring, crown, glass and strap, plus replacement crown and stem, was very reasonable. In fact I was slightly startled the level of service he offers.

On the subject of service/repairs can anyone recommend a good place to to get a Seiko repaired? I’m getting at my wits end with a warranty issue on a Alpine

Do you think that results in a discount or an extra charge?

    Marnin’,

What’s the UK market like for modern Vertex issues? I can’t find much online and, like most, find new prices…. challenging. Has anyone got or tried the M36? I tried TZ-UK but they’re not accepting new members and the search function…. about as good as on this forum!

Thanks to a bonus at work, I finally found and purchase a green watch.   Something a little different, fun, micro brand.   Specs at 41, Sapphire, 100m, BGW9 and an st19 column wheel hand wind Chrono movement.  I like it!

My Erebus Ascent has made my Bulova Accutron redundant as my dress watch, particularly as it’s a lot easier to read in low light. Before I put it up for sale locally I thought I would check on here as I think someone many pages ago was after one?

Does anyone have a Cestrian field watch?

I was thinking of getting one for my Dad

That might have been me beanum a while back.  Terrible timing though as I’ve got two arriving this week so no watch budget.

re-bought a Save the Ocean Turtle as I always regretted selling my Manta.  Also coming is Tudor Ranger

I have a 9-10 yr old EcoDrive with a mineral glass. Sadly it has quite a lot of minor surface scratches and a couple of slightly deeper ones which really stand out in bright light.

Can anyone recommend a glass renovator/scratch remover product?

With mineral glass you’ll need to use something like cerium oxide glass polish. I wouldn’t bother, source a new crystal and fit it yourself (not too hard to do, lots of videos online) or send it to a repairer. For instance Watch Doctors in Tring charge about £30 for a new crystal

I’d keep hold of it if I were you.  They are quite sought after and rarely come up for sale.  I’ve have it as a saved search on eBay and I’ve only seen one come up for sale in years

Fudd – off here. Serviced and fixed my vintage Omega for a very reasonable rate. And said I could recommend him. There’s examples of his work on various pages in this thread, though I couldn’t tell you which ones.

What do you think of the Ranger Kato? I’m undecided… is it great and a proper Explorer whereas the rolex is now just  blinged and neither tool nor special, or is the dial basic and poor for the watch given the price?

Currently tempted by one of these Boderry field watches. If you show an interest, they then pester you with additional discount vouchers, so currently I could have one for about £86. Titanium case, seems like stonking value.

I’d actually be even more inclined if it had a Quartz, set and forget movement because I’d probably use it in place of my G-Shock
