V-brake Levers for 4 Year Old

I’m looking for a set of v-brake levers for my daughters Ridgeback Honey. It’s a 14″ wheel bike with V’s. I cannot find anything suitable. I ordered the Tektro junior ones. They turned out to be the same size as my own brake levers!
I tried Islabike but they only supply to fit their own bikes.

I have an Islabike in the shed that the neighbour reversed over – the brake levers were at the salvageable end IIRC, I can check late, and sell them to you if you’re interested.

I have some Avid SD1’s in the shed – they wind in nicely.
The Tektro one’s usually can be wound in a long way as well – I have a couple of pairs as well.
You would be welcome to them for postage..

My daughter had the same problem with the ridgeback honey.I solved it by buying an islabike cnoc. Sorry this is no help whatsoever

Add a back peddle back instead……I’ve always hated them as a kid…but when my son was 4 I got him the specialised 16″ hotrocks bike and they come as standard on them ….and it makes sense with his then ..little fingers

I’ve used an XT lever on the balance bike I made for my daughter. To alter the lever reach I made a sleeve that fitted inside the lever to reduce the reach. Works very well.

If none of the above options work try Frog bikes. Very lovely and helpful at Frog.

Or couldn’t you just say to Islabike that you need to replace the v-brakes on an Islabike? (I know lying is bad 🙁 )

It was a Tektro one on our Islabike Rothan.

So the cnoc had a tektro TL67

Tektro ts 325 wound all the way in work for our 4 yr old as a replacement on a cnoc 14. The cnoc has an undersized handlebar and I’ve had to use a bit of inner tube to bulk it out a bit.

Google reveals nothing for the tl67 but googling jl350 pics suggest they are the same as the ones on the Isla bike.
I think you’ll need some tektro mini vs too as the brakes on the ridgeback aren’t great either.

After some more googling it would appear that Islabikes have a 19mm handlebar. Which means the Islabikes/Tektro JL350 levers won’t fit a Ridgeback as it has standard 22.2mm bars. It’s looking like my daughter might have to make do with carp brakes until I can afford an Islabike.

Still, I’m guessing all of us learnt to ride on bikes with next to no braking – and we all seem to have survived!

I fitted Avid Speed Dial 7 levers to my daughter’s bike. Loads of adjustability and way better than the ‘so called’ Tektro kids levers.
They’re £14.99 from CRC.

I’ve got to say that the levers on my daughter’s Cnoc were perfect for small hands. Shame they only fit a 3/4″ (19mm) bar.

I have a set of Tektro JL352 levers. Same levers as the JL350 levers mentioned above but to fit 22.2mm bar diameters.

Hi… just replied to your email, yeah, bars are 19mm – so the levers probably no use to you, sorry.

Raleigh Junior Brake Levers

They say they are for both v and canti brakes. I’m guessing they have a pull ratio of somewhere between the two. I’ll order a pair and see how they work. I figured worse case scenario I can just add a set of mini-v’s. As mini v-brakes are aimed at road bike bikes that should over come any pull ratio issues.

On another note, I was looking for a replacement tyre for the Cnoc 14 I just got second hand for my son. It’s a 14 inch Kenda, but I can’t find a direct replacement. Anyone got any suggestions of somewhere that carries them?

The best place I’ve found to hunt for 14″ tyres has been eBay to be honest…

Ta, I’ll take a look – ideally I want some small block 8s to replace what’s already on it – can’t have mismatched tyres for his pride and joy!
