Despite the big numbers being swung around, turn out was still 67%. A third of the electorate couldn’t be **** arsed. 😐

Or were effectively deterred by decades of (actual) gerrymandering and vote suppression by the republican party. Remember, because of the electoral college and winner-takes-all system, just like in the UK there’s a huge percentage of people whose votes are fundamentally worthless. It really doesn’t take much to deter someone who knows that from voting- you might queue for 12 hours in inner city Atlanta but would you in Alaska?

Theres also only two parties to vote for. If you’re not supportive of either party or candidate you’ve no other way to express your preference really. In the Uk, in addition to the two dominant parties theres 44 other parties that were on the ballot papers nationwide – a quarter of the people who voted didn’t vote for the two major parties but for one of those minor ones. The turn out in the last uk election was 67% too.

Quite incredible. The inherent contradiction of the GOP doing so well would be funny if there weren’t so many fickwuts over there who will believe and buy-in to this bollox.

Waiting to see what the other top Republicans do now. They’re for the most part an execrable lot, but even they have to call this for what it is. Surely?

Which is why he won’t get away with overturning the result. Stop worrying about it. I’m opening another beer, Georgia is on the brink.

I agree with you 100%. However, until he’s wearing orange overalls – manacled to his sons on either side – breaking rocks, I won’t 100% relax!

Georgia’s one of the most ridiculously spellbinding things I’ve ever watched on the internet. Just glanced at CNN at the exact moment another little package of votes got added, under 3500 in it now… And “99% counted” makes it feel like it’s done and dusted but 1% is 49000 people. I’d watch paint dry if it had a little progress bar obviously.

Got to be well within the margin of error though either way now. Which, while exciting, is a pretty insane state for an election to be in. I mean, across Arizona Georgia and Nevada there’s literally 69000 votes gap between the two candidates.

99% counted sounds pretty final but that 1% is still another 72K votes, so the lead is flipped by a relatively small favouring to Biden.

Can’t work out how to C&P the graphic in but Sky have an interesting table part way down of lead and estimated votes remaining in the undeclared states

I don’t for a second think it’ll happen, but if the SC did overrule the result in what would be a clearly partisan and indefensible decision, we’ll be in civil war territory. The cities will explode and judges, generals, police chiefs and politicians (on both sides) will be resigning en masse.

Bannon’s been booted off Twitter and YouTube today. Not been following what he’s been up to, assume related to Trump’s outbursts?

Well, let’s hope Trump fails. He’s not bluffing when he makes it clear he will try though. Democracy is about to take a bashing… and if this wasn’t a majority English speaking nation, the assuredness that democracy will hold would’t be such a strong consensus. I’m still worried about what happens once Biden passes 270.

GA & PA both getting closer and closer.

    From Murdoch owned NY Post…

President Trump repeated his unfounded claim that political foes were trying to steal the election from him during a briefing on Thursday evening as he trailed his opponent and remaining swing states were leaning toward a Joe Biden presidency.

Looks like Rupert has sent out the word to dump trump.

Love the ‘obese turtle on its back, flailing in the sun knowing it’s time is over quote from Anderson Cooper.

Watching the polls is like watching Trump being slowly brought to the boil like a frog in a saucepan, not so much watching paint dry as watching the mercury in a thermometer rise imperceptibly but inevitably.

The funny thing is, Trump has a career-long habit of bringing spurious and plain false law suits against people, knowing that you can often bully people into settling, even if they’re completely in the right, just by sending your or your dad’s expensive lawyers round and making it clear that you’ll make their lives a misery so that they can’t win either way.

And it works great, against small businesses. Not so much against the United States of America

neocon Warhawk like McCain is somehow admired for his human decency in this forum? Are you kidding me? H

That’s a pretty one sided and inaccurate description. He did support sending troops into some places. He supported pulling them out of others. He voted for civil rights restoration, LGBT rights, gun control. He voted to confirm at least 2 democratic nominees to SCOtUS, including RBG. He was one of the few people in government that actually knew what sending troops into conflict meant, having been wounded and a POW in Hanoi for nearly 5 years, unlike his colleagues, who either got soft gigs in the national guard or exemptions for flat feet.
So yeah. I think he was a pretty decent human being. He made mistakes and supported things I don’t agree with, and did some pretty courageous things too. Voting for gun control and lgbt rights wont have made him many friends in his party.
But if you want to pick one thing he voted for and hang it on his neck, I can’t stop you.
I’ll take 100 of him over Donald Trump or Mitch Mcconnell or Lysney Graham or any of those nasty cowards.

Off topic, but I can’t let this one slide.

Mccain “sang bomb, bomb, Iran” to the the tune of good vibrations by the Beach Boys.

    Dropping bombs kills human beings.

This always involves the murdering of civilians, that’s regular families with children.

Mccain is not a saint. He’s a politician who likes war but puts a cuddly face on it.

YouTube clip of him joking about slaughtering human life

On Thursday night, the US president addressed the nation on the state of the 2020 race. Before he finished, all three US commercial networks had cut away.

Given the momentous occasion, it was an unprecedented move. It was also a reflection that the allegations the president was making – about fraud and malfeasance in the ballot-counting – were presented without evidence and could raise unfounded concerns about the security and reliability of the ongoing vote tabulations.

It was broadcast equivalent of the warning flags Twitter and Facebook have been regularly applying to the president’s social media post, themselves remarkable moves.

They’re now saying Biden going to win PA by some margin! Then it’s game over whatever happens in the other states 🙂

Just because their politics is different than mine doesn’t make them a bad person.

No but the deliberate impoverishment of people, the enacting of policies that will result in deaths of the citizens, the corruption does

This has been projected pretty much from the beginning based on the overwhelming dominance of the mail ballots by Democrats. Kind of a cruel torture for Trump, being told he is ahead and then seeing the margin steadily eroded.

What I don’t understand, is on comments sections people saying Biden is that that and the other but completely able to overlook Trump’s significantly worse failings.

however this goes, the US is facing division like we did 4 years ago and still have not resolved. But I worry about the US particularly and their ability to escalate way more with lethal violence should they want to.

I can’t see Trump being able to heal that division, his whole MO is to create division. I hope Biden could but don’t know; I am sad to say that Harris won’t because of her skin colour and gender that in itself will divide opinion more than anything she says or does.

There is no good outcome I can see right now. Just bad and worse.

Putin will be giggling into his cornflakes.

Yes it’s looking good. Biden could end up comfortably ahead in the Electoral College votes,

What is truly gobsmacking is that three of the mainstream broadcasters had to cut short the US President’s speech to pint out hd was making false allegations. (See Frankconway post above)

Once he is out of power the media are going to tear him to shreds.

As this is a cycling website, this is like the last part of the TdF time trial – Joe Pogacar is knocking time out of the lead with every pedal revolution while Donald Roglic has his hat on the back of his head and is wobbling along in a way that makes you watch through your fingers.

    Negative splits FTW.

Cougar, your quote cuts short. Have a look at this:

    https://mobile.twitter.com/kadhim/status/1324485343274557443

The Trump campaign lawyer began arguing about the # of feet away from the counting tables that their observers had a right to be. Diamond interrupted:

“You don’t have the right to be within 100 feet. You have the right maybe to be treated equally as recognised by a state court”

The whole legal challenge is that while observers are allowed in the building they are kept over 100’ away from the count so can’t actually observe anything.

    That’s brilliant, a great analogy!

I’ve wondered that. Wonder if Putin has any documents – or videos – that could be hacked/leaked 🤔
