This has probably been mentioned before on this thread but this lumen arms race is getting silly!

I have a pair of ayups I think 600ish lumens in total. I cant imagine needing more? surely the point of night riding is that it brings different thrills & challenges to day riding. I you're off out with 3000 lumens why not just ride in the daylight!

why not just ride in the daylight!

For a start, that limits your rides to 2 hours long in winter.

The point of night riding for a lot of people is riding! Some of us can't ride in daylight 😕

Does anyone know what voltage pack these lights can run with, I've got a Lipo battery pack running around 18v that I was thinking of using, would this be compatible?

Is there any estimation time when the new Cree S2 leds will hit the market? I might just wait and order LL with new ones. Are curent XPG bluish or warm color?

No Buzz as to when the S2s will hit the streets My guess is second quarter next year as the R5s are in short supply at the moment

I also think we may never see a S2 and have a bigger step up by then

as for colour I hope some of the users with out defective colour vision can chip in

Tnx for info trout. Btw, do you have any of LL left atm? If I order one today, could you ship it by end of the week?

I think I can help to answer that.
I have just finished machining the next batch of 50 Lib's. 🙂
Trout is getting them from me tomorrow and they will be with the anodizers Friday. So hopefully by end of next week there should be some more ready to send out. Some of them are spoken for but but there should be some for anyone elso who wants one, but don't delay too long as the 1st batch went like hot cakes and the 3rd batch will be after x-mas. 😥

    Trout.

Thanks for your post earlier today. Let me return the favour.

If you like what you see, then consider that there is an alternative to the Trout light. There aren't as many available, but this is a great light. The result of years of building lights and even helping Trout build his one. As he admits much earlier on this thread.

    Fullstop

that is always possible not sure it would be worthwhile yet even when the S2 comes out but maybe when the gap widens more then it will be a good option .

wow Trout, how much & when it will be available? This with liberator would be perfect, LL with more spread lenses and this one with long-narrow beam shot.

    Thanks Jonta
When very close to christmas I think for an empty case and after for a full one

as it uses the same components as the LL then around the same costs approx
It does work better as a spot with the wimpy XPEs in and a monster spotflood with the XPGs in .

Also a rumour happening that this time next year will be 500 lumen XP-T leds so that should open the door to some real small helmet lights with big hearts

Great to hear! I would get in line for a full one, with XPGs. They look bloody awesome.
Btw, will be mine LL ready for send out by end of the week?

Trout the new ones look good to be honest I think the narrow
type you made are better for if or when you go over the bars
the flat type are less to break.
So whats with these new shape lights?

    Thanks Lum
credit goes to Paul as I only had a small input on this one

    GavGAs
I mailed you a few days ago with an update .
will resend it, gist was I ran out of medium optics have had them on order for 1 month now and still not got them .

    Grantway .
thanks and I agree the 6 led does win in lots of ways .

the seven led just sort of happened because I got the boards and optics in an order for the first lot of leds and wanted to do something with them .cobbled together a rough case which looked nothing like the one paul came up with . it puts out an awesome amount of light on full probably too much , But paul was unknown to me beavering away in the back ground hacking out a couple of those beauties on his machines and when I saw them it seemed a shame not to share .

Now I see that Lupine have copied and are doing a 7 XPG Betty Pro

so we thought it would be a shame if it did not go in the line up as it looks so tasty in a retro sort of way

    Maks
The new lot of housings are still at the Anodizers been there a week now
phoned them yesterday but no one phoned back UK customer service for you

will be pestering them again today

Trout you did not copy right the flat design?
If not I did remember there is a design protection group
that can help small designers/companies from copying even
though they had no copy right.

    Trout.

Well, that is as may be, but one still has to make the ligth live.
    Not bad.
You have my sympathies ref the anodizers, I am experiencing similar delays with the one I use.

    WellHung.
I have to point out that this is still Trout's thread, mail me if you'd like more info.

I think the LL looks lovely, and the 7 LED one up there looks even lovelier! I don't believe that the difference in shape will make a massive difference to to the crash-breakability factor. I guess the key thing is how the beam pattern comes out using the 7 LED optic versus the 6 individual ones that are in the LL. It sounds as though Trout has found a nice balance for the LL using a mixture of narrow / medium optics – presumably with the 7 LED optic, one has to just take what one is given – i.e. overall 'narrow' or 'medium'. Aesthetically, I think Mr CNC has done a fantastic job.

    You are right there Gray

Couple of ariel beam shots here
first on is a LL with 6 narrow optics in

and then the 7 up with its own narrowest optic in

Both are pretty good beams to ride with but the LL does put more light down near the wheel and to each side better

    gray
    Full Member

I interpret both of those beam shots as "wedgeloads of light – you'll be able to see just fine". 🙂 Though I guess there may well be steep, slow nadgery circumstances where the spill downwards could make a real difference. I tend to close my eyes under those circumstances anyway, so maybe it's not that big a deal!
