Well if there's a demo doing the rounds can I get my name down? More than willing to take it over a weekend !(cheeky I know, but worth a try and we might get to 2000 !)

Chris, dont know if you got my email regarding a connector for the proto i had as the lead was popping out, can you let me know if you have one spare and price, really pleased with the light 😀

It survived the worst Brechfa could throw at it (it was very wet out there tonight), couldn't fault it. Used the DX light up top and helped on the tight switchbacks. It made the tabletops a lot safer. at two hours back at the car was when the red light came on.

Mine turned up today cheers Trout.
Very nice, the logo and label looks very professional, and its a big improvement over the Proto (which was very nice in its own right).
The female port rather than a flying lead is good. I'm guessing the light is a battery low warning type thing that i didn't know it had (a nice surprise), and the green glow is a lovely gimmick, which if the mount ever does break will be handy. (must be worth a couple of lumens on the final count too 😉 )
All in all, fantastic achievement for one man in his spare time (not forgetting the contribution of others). Easily a match quality and value wise for any of the big guns (to be fair, if it last a couple of years problem free, it will blow them out of the water)

    Woot! Just got mine!
So much smaller and neater than the pictures do justice.
    Well done, and many thanks!

Was riding with Andy in Dubai last night, first time seeing his new Baby Trout in action, and I'm impressed.

Andy is chuffed to bits, fantastic beam with no bright spots, just an even spread illuminating everything you could want.

I'd say it's only a matter of time before you have a few more orders from the UAE 🙂

    Cheers, Rich

    Hi Chris,
whats the latest on the last lights…one of which is mine 😛

I don't think the connector is actually waterproof. Waterproof is, err, waterproof, and anything else, isn't.

If I were you I'd cover it if you are anticipating using the light during a downpoor. Just to be safe.

    🙂

    mine arrived yesterday thanks Chris

Damn it's small. I wasn't expecting it to be quite that tiny & light.
(oh yeah – the illumination is pretty awesome too :-))

Power connectors are essentially the same as have been used on Lumicycle lights for years without any problems I'm aware of.

I've had the same on my LEDs over 2 years and water has never got in.

Troutie likes his silicone so they are pretty well sealed!

luminous , Hows your light going you must have it sorted by now .
have a look at the IP ratings and it would appear that there are variing degrees of waterproofness

I used the 2.5 connector so with a quick change of the polarity it could be used on the thousands of Lumi batteries out there but finding an ip67 rated one seems like rocking horse do da .

so used the one on the left in an unorthodox way as it is an inline connector the one on the right is a standard 2.5 as used in the lumi stuff but probably not the new led stuff as no way is it anything proof .

the one I have used is not 100 % sealed but I do add some silicon after soldering where water could get in so I would say it is pretty well sealed .

Stoney been working away the last couple of days so will be doing the last few this weekend .

I got my light the other day, I haven't had a chance to get out on the bike with it yet, but I've done the mandatory garden testing! 🙂
The light is very very impressive, the size of it is amazing, much smaller than I was expecting! And very light weight too. And also very very bright!!! I drive home through the new forest, and stopped at the side of the road to compare my car headlights to the trout light. I only had the car lights on low beam, but the pics give you a good idea of just how chuffing bright this thing is!

The pics are only off my phone (sony c905), so not that great, but they are all at the same exposure etc. As usual the pics dont do it justice for broadness of beam etc etc.

    Trout.

    Hi ya 😀

Hope you didn't mind my post, its just that I didn't want Rob to damage his light. 🙂

But as we know, you've no reported issues with water anyway.

    Progess ?.

Its been a long haul, but late-ish last night I was standing on the shop floor of a company which machines parts for the offshore and Aero industries, amongst others, watching a 9 axis machine centre do its stuff.
Hyper accurate !, amazing machines, and the guys are asking "how many microns clearance do you want".

    MICRONS !.

Then we're looking at stuff on the shadow-graph for gaps and clearances.
    Fantastic.

Anyway, housings will be finished tonight, for collection tomorrow.

Yes, you've made a nice little job of that connector, and yes finding an appropriate connector is very difficult, took me months !, and even when you do find what you think you can use.

Not all the companies that I, and possibly you, have dealt with, make things as easy as they could be 😉

Good thinking on the Lumi compatability front, must admit, I hadn't thunk of that. 🙂

    Cheers

    cheers Luminous.
I think iv,e come up with a solution but tell me if i,m wrong.
slip a small neoprene O ring or even 2 over the plug so when it sits against the socket it makes a seal without shortening it too much and still makes a good contact.the plug goes on prety tight so it doesn,t slack back.i.ll get a few in the morning as i,m riding late on sunday and well you know what the weathers like…

Rob save your money and dont worry about a bit of rain
maybe just a blob of silicon grease or vasaline to keep the salt water at bay on the roads to stop the contacts corroding but having seem some very old lumi stuff and the connectors were still in good nick

it has been sat in there since you posted not hot enough for tea yet

and dont try this with a bastid

Chris, would this Lumicycle remote switch work for toggling between high & low beams?

dont think that one will do but it is possible to wire one in

Yep Swift it is real ( the light dont work anymore though ) 😉

Rob the current and voltages arent high enough for it to short if the connectors get wet as just proved . salty water maybe as clean water is a bad conductor but salty water is better at conducting .

Bit expensive for a switch !!

    happysv

I've set mine up now so that a short press turns it on at previous level and longer press then give full power.
When turning on a constant switch press starts off on level one and then increases step by step until the switch is released.
It does away with the strobe mode and make the light into a super Trout 😀
