apply the same standard they would apply to anyone else working for them as an employee or as a sub contractor.

That’s what they’re doing, in line with any sensible HR/workplace policy. There’s been an accusation (Or in this case, it sounds like a sort of confession) of potential wrongdoing, and an individual was suspended while they’re investigating and following the correct procedures.

That’s exactly the same standard that any employee or sub-contractor at the Beeb would expect. Oh, and FWIW, I used to work at the Beeb. 😀

However, I suspect that you’d like to see a different “standard” employed here. One that suits your opinion.

I watched Red Arrows too. Totally different to three blokes fannying about and marvellous stuff.

Didn’t you watch it when it was on before? It was a repeat, after all.

Nice to watch an old student of mine on the Beeb instead of TG. Thought the reds made for good viewing.

seems that there is a new episode of top gear on this week after all

I reckon that after being compared to Jimmy Savile by a BBC executive, then Clarksons solicitor is going to have an absolute ball over the next few days!

@Drac if you’re referring to my previous; happy to bite. Having flown with them on a pre season display I can vouch that they work incredibly hard both in the air and on the ground.
A great bunch if not the best.

they work incredibly hard both in the air and on the ground.

No one doubts that for a minute.

The joke was an obvious one, based around the “Not even a real hamster” rant that often appears on any thread about TG here.

If we wanted humour, one mention of the RAF could have brought out plenty of comments about staying in five star hotels and people having strops over plates of sandwiches instead of real food 😉

    This quote is interesting…

“It’s a risky business being a cyclist in the UK, there are a lot of people who really dislike us. It’s the Jeremy Clarkson influence – we’re hated on the roads. We just hope people realise we are just flesh and bones on two wheels.”

For those missing Top Gear, may I recommend that fine environmental show Russel Coight’s “All Aussie Adventures” on YouTube.

BTW Pay particular attention to the colour of hands being shaken.

^^ He sure mocked those aboriginals proper. Job done. Good to see that Aussies aren’t afraid of the PC crowd. Maybe the Last Best English left this country over a century ago? Now we have to mind our Ps and Qs around foreigners like we’re ladies at court or something. *spits on floor and punches the nearest minority*

I reckon that after being compared to Jimmy Savile by a BBC executive, then Clarksons solicitor is going to have an absolute ball over the next few days!

Except he didn’t really say that did he? He said that elements of the whole affair are Savile-esque in that the perpetrator has loads of public support and the victim (who didn’t complain in this case as we now know) is being attacked despite having done nothing more wrong than staying up to meet the “talent” from TG.

If the DM want to read that as a BBC exec saying Clarkson is like Savile then I’d suggest that it’s almost as if they don’t bother reading what they write and just slap sensationalist headlines onto articles ripped off from other news sources as clickbait.

I’m staggered that the press are describing Clarkson as untouchable. He’s blatantly not untouchable. There’s a named witness in the Telegraph who describes a punch resulting in a split lip, dizziness and a trip to casualty.

Even if the ‘victim’ doesn’t wish to give evidence, one witness plus the trip to casualty (which will be recorded) ought to be enough evidence for the Police to do something – even they decide to caution.

Forget the BBC – if these accounts are true and Clarkson doesn’t face some kind of justice then anybody whineing about lack of action needs to explain why they didn’t call crimestoppers themselves.

That would be a matter of how common this kind of outburst is – the punch aside – if 40 minute tirades aimed at members of the crew over trivial issues have any kind of precedent then it appears he has been untouchable up to now.

There is a culture of bullying in the TV industry and there are household names who bully and intimidate crew freely on the basis that crew are disposable but show hangs on their name. As much as they can be vicious these people can also be very litigious. TV crew are in a very weak position professionally as positions are freelance and recruitment is on an informal who-you-know basis. Its not a situation in which you can easily blow a whistle. Thats possibly highlighted by someone being subjected to a lengthy verbal attack, and physical violence, and hospital visit, not reporting it.

Fiona Bruce is supposed to be a particularly nasty piece of work. I’m not joking…. a friend has witnessed a clarkson-esque outburst from her to a junior crew member on the set of the antiques roadshow.

Hang on, isn’t is all an act? He’s not really a violent bully, it’s just a character he plays on TV and in the press.

Oi, don’t berate RAF personnel because they are clever enough to send the poshos out to get shot at whilst they lounge around in air conditioned hardened shelters. Any working class lad who opts for the RAF has a brain between his/her ears.

The BBC are screwed as Clarkson is the show and it’s worth millions and millions to them.

Its the BBC’s own fault. They knew he was trouble, they have repeatedly renewed his contract knowing this and have not taken the opportunity to bring in and develop alternative presenters, despite knowing full well it was just a matter of time before Clarkson went way too far.

I have no understanding of why anyone supports bullying in the work place.

I have no understanding of why there is a massive petition to support bullying in the workplace by Clarkson, yet comparatively nothing from the same public in response to food bank need escalating, closing of public libraries and dismantling of care facilities for the disabled etc.

I despair of people priorities and selfishness.
