Can the 591 bike carrier be easily removed and fitted to the thule aero bars? Just considering this package as the I doubt current bars will fit on the impending new car purchase. I have thought about leaving the bars attached to the car and fitting the rack when I need it.

If the Thule aero bars are a similar design to my Seat OE aero bars then yes, dead easy to fit/remove.

The 3 levers on the 591 clamp & release the bars into/out from the groove in the bars & you just slide the carriers out, 2 min job max for each 591 carrier

Both my bars & carriers are permanently attached to the car as I’m a lazy git using the carriers quite a lot.

To get the full “aero” effect I think you’re meant to trim and then refit lengths of plastic to fill the unused parts of the grooves in the bars. If you did that did that each time i could see it being a major hassle.

I have standard square thule bars and 591’s and i leave them on the car all the time.

they do just slide in and out, but a bit of a hasle with the rubbers strips as said above. I leave the bike carriers on all the time although they do get used at least twice a week

The rubber inserts are a doddle to fit & remove, a little washing up liquid helps them pop in & out in seconds

yes, easy to get in and out, but with 3 bike carriers I have 8 bits of rubber, all of different lenghts, so unless I put numbers or something on the back of them I am most likely to not put the right ones in the right gaps 😛

druidh, I prefer Wispa’s, but thanks for the offer anyway 😉

Hmm, I only have 2 carriers so the rubber strips get slung into the footwell on that side of the car so that I know which side they’re from.

Maybe colour code them with nail varnish or touch up paint?

I tend to leave the bike rack(s) fitted to the bars and just remove/put on the whole lot ready to go. It’s a bit of a faff lining up the slots/carrier runners. My aero bars are so easy to remove that it’s easier to whip the lot off and store it in the garage.
