The joys of working from home means I just heard the thud that tells me the postie has delivered issue #1 of Cranked Mountain Bike Magazine (note webshop still being fettled)

Looks lovely, smells better. Quality paper and knowing (as I do) some of the contributors, quality content*.

Can’t wait to read it but am going to have to, it’s been snaffled by Mrs NBT. Looking forward to an hour in the garden with it later though, with a nice cup of tea…

*seeing as I know Alex Leigh, it’s worth pointing out that “low” is a valid measure of quality

Nice, more trees destroyed in the name of consumerist lust – on World Earth Day too, great timing 🙄

I’m going to read mine later on tonight, in the garden with the patio heater on full. Thermostat set to ‘mass extinction’.

although they were planted in the name of consumerist lust so the net effect on the total number of trees is zero?

You’ll be stopping the Peak District and various other places from logging then.

hope you don’t run anything like an ipad or iphone that was shipped from China either?

But hey- lets not derail the topic.

NBT let us know what its like?

    🙁 Mine ain’t here yet.

Been a while since I’ve bought a mag actually, hope it’s decent. I just really want something with lovely pictures in and some decent race reporting (not sure if I’ll get racing?), an old school Dirt before the bullshit.

Well being as a tablet is hazardous waste I reckon you’re onto a winner that the paper edition would be kinder to the environment.

And make you look less like a plonker.

Can’t wait for mine to arrive!

How did I not know about this? Cheers!

Magazines are good for the environment, they’re a carbon sink- tree gets down, turned into paper, other tree gets planted, magazine goes into my hoard.

Turns out mine is here 😀 Apparently though I’m a gayer ‘cos paying that much for a magazine is stupid…what does she know!!

Disappointed to read (email) there’s gonna be fat bikes.

Mrs NBT proclaims it’s great. Singletrack mag normally lasts several weeks with articles read one at a time, when she fancies some reading. She’s enjoyed Cranked so much she’s read article after article and plowed through more or less the whole thing (except the interviews – those didn’t grab her in the same way). Even Alex’s piece.

There is one light of mountain bike magazines and to brighten it anywhere, brightens it everywhere.

Thepodge – its sort of like ‘privateer’ but for mtbers.
Alex – I like your article, however I need a dictionary for some of those ‘big’ words.

Can’t agree with Jo Burt’s statement in his article

“There are several generations of cyclist that have only ever ridden mtbs”

Imo mtbs have only been around for one generation, not several. I am nitpicking though.

As you would expect the photographer is superb.

2 different things innit. If a generation is about 30 years from sprog to sprog then yep, commercial mountain bikes as we know it haven’t been around for long enough. But you can have several generations within that time period because everyone doesn’t have kids at the same time.

Erm…… £12 for one issue or £39.50 for a years subs for four issues. The maths don’t add up, or am I missing something?

As Julian (NBT) kindly points out, quality can have many levels 😉 But I’m happy to pay for a copy as there’s loads of really good articles/photography in it. Nice one Seb for getting it out. I’m sure it’s been an absolute mission to get it done on time.

Mine landed this morning so as it was a fine day up here in Galloway i sat in the back garden to have my breakfast and browse through it, i eventually pootled into work one hour later than usual 😀 , a fine range of articles and i’ll have a proper read through it later. Well done to all involved.
