Seeing as TJ's favourite nazis the BNP, sorry I mean SNP, are banging on about the shocking cost of Buckie again, I think it's a good opportunity to put this back up. I first compiled this in March this year when 50p a unit (5p/ml) was being bandied about. Interestingly I had a conversation with a food retail analyst not that long ago who said Id be shocked at just how much of a loss the big supermarkets are willing to take on booze.
So will the EU come to the defence of the Weegie lush? – there seems to be plenty of confidence that minimum pricing would be struck down by the EU courts. Where would you price it? Interestingly buckie appears to be one of those drinks already priced over the minimum rate, but I did get my pricing from online supermarkets, so if someone on here is willing to own up to knowing just how much a bottle of Buckfast really costs in a Gorbals cornershop, let me know and we'll work out the real street price per ml.
For comparison, 50p a unit would mean about £5 minimum for a bottle of wine and £15 for a bottle of whisky.
