you have hit the nail on the head mate as the commentator said surly they won't play french cricket (i guess killing the game)ingerland have to win the ozzie's don't that is why this game is going to be a draw

i thought the whingers(that's the antipodeans) had to win at all costs
as that's their mentality? you know bowling underarm to the kiwi's an all that.
seems odd that they would settle for a draw which while they retain the ashes it just means they weren't good enough to win. that must really mess with the australian teams psyche. especially after the 5-0 whitewash talk at the beginning of the summer, and the 'desperate' call up of trot.
win or lose they will be worthy champions of gobshite.

…and to think they describe the poms as whinging 🙄

I presume you're ignoring that he's spent most of his adult life playing cricket in England (along with the English parentage)?

Nevermind psychle you can always look forward to getting back to winning ways when you come up to Scotland. Its been good listening to the Aussie commentators talking about everything but the match.

pretty happy with that at lunch… would've been nice to only be 1 down, but Punter & Hussey look OK at the moment… Clarke and North to come, and they're no slouches with the bat…

'tis a lovely day to bat, so let's enjoy it lads 🙂

Man of the series it has to be Andy Strauss for all the runs and winning that toss on thursday

man of the match it can only be Stuart Broad

So… I'm back, had a lovely ride in the English sun 🙂

Two decisive moments today, Ponting getting runout – direct hit from Flintoff, you'd have to have rated that a 1 in 10 chance at best… and Clarkes 'runout', whatever happened to benefit of the doubt? 🙄

Ah well… you can't be bowled out for 160 and expect to win a Test really, Friday was a catastophic day for Aussie cricket, probably the worst I've seen in my life especially given the importance of the game 🙁

I honestly feel, and I think most English fans would agree, we were the better team overall this series, not by a considerable margin but I do think the stats would back me up on this, however the decisive moments just didn't go our way when we needed them to…

I think Strauss sums it up best:

"When we were bad, we were very bad but when we were good, we were good enough…"

Congrat's to England… I swear though, the first 'fairweather supporter' who tries to rub it in, I may just be forced to club them… 😆

Lanesra, how do you want your filthy lucre? 🙂

whatever happened to benefit of the doubt?

That only exists when there's doubt, hence the phrase! 😉

I think you'll find that one stat doesn't back you up on this…..
    2-1

See that? 2 is more than 1, you know….! 😉

A great series, played in great spirit. Great stuff all round, and a fine example of why test cricket really is the best form of the game! Well played Australia, but just not good enough, I'm afraid!

true enough, and that's the only one that matters in the end… 🙁

eh??? get to ****. You were better in two tests, we were better in three. The main difference between to 2 sides was that when you were bad england took full advantage and when we were bad you squandered your chances. How many decisive spells of bowling did the aussies produce away from headingley? The bottom line is that when it really counted you fell to pieces. At times your bowling attack was the worst I've seen from an australian team in 25 years. Your batsmen flattered to deceive and 2 pivotal collapses matter more than how many centuries you score.

As for it not mattering to the english, I can't speak for anyone else but in my household there is absolutely nothing sweeter than an ashes triumph, not even a football world cup.

That would require there to be some doubt. It was just a very good decision. 😛

But not when it counted, so it means nothing really.

    🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

    Such bad losers!!!!

IS it really England or South Africa tormenting Australia in the Ashes?

After England's latest South African-born hero Jonathan Trott made 119 on debut in the fifth Test, it seems the Rainbow Nation is more of a factor than the Mother Country in this Ashes.

Statistics don't lie and the three ex-South Africans – captain Andrew Strauss, Kevin Pietersen and Trott – sit on top of England's batting averages in the series.

Strauss is the Ashes top run-scorer and has averaged 52.6, injured Pietersen averaged 38 after the first two Tests and Trott averages 80 after his debut Test. And another former South African, wicketkeeper Matt Prior, isn't far away with an Ashes average of 32.62.

Between them the four South Africans have made 1048 runs this series – more than 40 per cent of England's total.
