    What a daft saying.

“Oooh, cutting this slice of bread is taking me….oh,I’ve done it”

I put forward “the best thing since frozen spinach”.

Actually, it turns out that frozen brussel sprouts aren’t nearly as bad as you would imagine.  I can’t decide if that is fabulous or a disaster of unmitigated flatulence

Ironically I think it’s fair to say most people would find an uncut loaf a treat nowadays.

I’m a frozen veg bore convert – frozen brussels are always the small and sweet type.

Unsliced bread. It was the ad line for their new in-store bakeries.

Brussel sprouts? Par boiled and deep fried in olive oil for an hour.

When I was a little lad, my mam would give me a hug and say ‘ooh you’re the best thing since sliced bread’ it dawned on me years later that we always got an uncut loaf from the local baker!!!

To be fair to sliced bread, have you seen what some people achieve with a bread knife.

And how are you supposed to make a fish finger butty with that?

When my mother cuts slices, they’re always uniform, but somehow the face of the loaf ends up being a deep concave. I have to square it off before cutting a slice.

Mrs g insists on butchering loaves by holding the loaf against the chest and attacking it with the knife, sometimes having buttered it first, though thankfully jam always goes on after cutting. This may be a Welsh thing, but possibly happens in other parts of the country?

Lay your loaf on its side before attacking with a bread knife.

    No need to thank me…

But sliced bread genuinely is a super-useful invention.

When I bake my own I end up with massive doorstep slices, which is OK as a treat but sub-optimal for everyday eating.

    This made me chuckle though.
