The Alps, Summer 2015 – where are you going and why?

Hopefully will be in Chatel the first week of August for the 4th year in a row. Was 100% on but redundancies at work meant all holiday leave has been cancelled, got my appeal next week. Got to impress upon them that the season out there is very short so can’t really rearrange, not really the same as your average holiday in the med.

Won’t be going next year as all of the holiday slots for 2016 have already been taken so to say I’ll be determined is an understatement 😈

Just booked a week, 3-7th July in Morzine.
Wishing the weeks away already

8-16 August to morzine with the husband and Kids. This will be the 4 th year in a row taking the kids. Youngest was 8 first time around on a kona stinky 24, bless!

Found a really nice apartment, and we are starting to know our way around now (we also do pds in winter). Kids don’t like pedalling, and we have a terrible sense of direction, morzine and PDS are perfect!

There is also a great bakery in morzine…and the crepe lady…and lifeguards in tiny swimming trunks.

What’s not to like :0)

Going to La Thuile ealy July with a few other trips planned to Pila and Les Arcs whilst we’re there. We went there last year and loved the trails in La Thuile, and the Downhill from Pila to Aosta is amazing.

For those going to The PDS, try hopping over to Samoens (about 40 mins from Morzine by car). The riding there is brilliant, albeit, pretty steep and technical. I’ve ridden in the PDS area many times and think it’s great, but if you like taking lifts to the top and doing more single track/ natural riding to the bottom, Samoens is worth a look.

Which lift in Samoens did you use – the Samoens Express? I’d love to have a day there.

15 nights camping planned (tunnel booked, but not the sites yet) around Les Arcs/Aosta in late August. Largely self guided (to keep the cost down). Plans are Les Arcs, Le Thuile, Les Rosier, Pila etc. Getting very excited and enjoying the research.

1:1 day with Ed Oxley booked for next month to get some switchback training in! Never ridden in the Alps before.

Bike Village for the 3rd year running, great people, great riding and as previously said, top food!

bought a little cupboard to call my own near Morzine earlier this year. Me and the Jr Stoners are heading out first day of the skool holidays and we wont be back till September. Can’t wait.

And for more peaceful moments….Im off there next week for 5 days of interseason walking and maybe some XC Mtbing.

A week in the Pyrenees, then working on the Trans-Provence race followed two weeks in Morzine. Then 3 weeks of riding where ever we feel like, probably Lake Garda for a few days and after than I have no idea!

I’m now planning to fly to Geneva to off-road tour/bikepack south using a route loosely based around GR5, visiting various bike parks on route, so far the bit I’ve planned takes into account Morzine and Tignes. I’m tempted to do a lap on Mt Blanc, but I’ve heard mixed reviews about the various loops. No pressure on where I end up a week after my flight out as I’m meeting family out there for a couple of weeks of camping.

Which lift in Samoens did you use – the Samoens Express? I’d love to have a day there.

Wallop big cable car from main car park and top chairlift when it’s running (Mon-Thurs Jul and Aug). Lifts don’t run for an hour at lunchtime link

Tour du Mont Blanc is definitely recommended by me oliverracing, starting in Chamonix and doing it clockwise. We did it supported over five days with MBMB so didn’t have much kit to carry, which definitely made it more enjoyable, but I’m sure you’d have a good time anyway.

Might go to the Vercors Thuursday afternoon for a ride. 8)

I’m off to Saalbach for the last week in August, 4th time I’ve been during the summer, getting better and better every year.

I always stay at Pension Enzian , Kev, the owner knows the good off piste tracks which are amazing fun.

Stunning scenery, and when its a lovely day hjump on the bus (free with the joker card) to the lake at Zell and go jump off the harbour.

Couple of days at Leogang, and sorted for a week! Can’t wait.

Not long to go now! Anyone making any last minute trips?

Looking at organising for 18/7, recently lost my wife so taking son and a friend, where would Alps regulars recommend for more xc than dh?
