Two weeks until the grid references are released 😀

Have ordered myself a 21t sprocket in anticipation of the route heading northwards towards Dyfi Forest area.

    Getting excited now 🙂

    edit: page 4, get in…

No SS for me. I’m going for 3×8 as I’m recovering from achilles tendonitis and want things gentle.

OK then, what tyres for the WRT? I’ve currently got Maxxis Ignitors on my 456, and although they’re not the chunkiest tyres, they have good grip and roll well on tarmac.

Conti Race King 2.2″ last year. No change for this year.

I had Ignitors on the 29er before – found the grip very good, but they didn’t roll quite as well as the Race Kings.

Hmmm, I think I’ve got some unused Race Kings in my tyre collection 😕

Edit: No, they’re actually Speed Kings.

Yea I think Race kings would be a pretty good choice. I’ve been running a pair of Michelin RaceR’s in a 2.2 flavour and I’ve been very impressed. Not the lightest tyre out there but very fast and more than enough grip for ‘normal’ conditions.

    @Ian … 21t, good choice 😉

I’m amazed by this weather we are having at the moment – I will seriously need to look at my tyre choice as I only usually use big knobblies 😉

    Are the grid refs safe???

I just looked up a starting grid ref so check out this page

    http://www.forestfreeride.co.uk/pages/FAQ2.html

    Where are you based?
North Powys in mid Wales. We are approx 24 miles north west of Newtown, Powys, 13 miles north of Llanidloes, 12 miles east of Machynlleth, 34 miles inland of Aberystwyth and 34 miles south of Coed-y-Brenin (compass points are approx). Our postcode is SY19 7BH (put this into Google Earth, Google Maps or any other postcode search facility for an accurate location). OS Explorer map 215, grid ref: SH871975. Detailed directions will be sent to you with the booking confirmation.

Yet memory map and an online route planner are both giving me that grid ref as being 18.6km north of Colwyn Bay.

Anybody else having that issue? Do I need a pack raft?

Indeed, that’s a bit of a slip up on his home page.

    (Try SN, rather than SH)

Yes,yes … we’re at SN not SH. The GR on the website is a typo. I shall go and beat Dee to within an inch of her life 😉

SH now changed to SN on the web site, so no need for any ‘What boat for the WRT’ threads 😯

Provisional route plotted, just need confirmation from my wingman (you listening, Dyffers?). You’re a sneaky bugger, Stuart – too many points, want to ride them all! Deffo not going up Cadair Idris, but might squeeze in a bit of ClimachX on the way round.

You’ll have to wait another 36 hours Chris.

I’ve gotta ride across Wales tomorrow before I’ve got any more time to plan riding round Wales again.

Not happy about this Cadair Idris wussout though. It’s win or die trying. 😉

Anyone want to show me there route? Ive not got any local knowledge and all the advise you have would be good?

Bigface if you look hard you’ll see a little yellow road with loads and loads of black arrows on it … going along it is without doubt the very best route 😉

Bigface (and anyone else too) if you get proper stuck, email me an idea of your route or the bits you’re unsure of and I’ll point you in the right direction.

    Not much route chit-chat then?

Who’s going clockwise and who’s going anti clockwise?

    Bigface0_0
    Free Member

clockwise Im thinking but seems like a big road section has to be had and those black triangles dont look to good!!!

    didnothingfatal

Clockwise if fine weather, wanna be west of Cadair first night 🙂 And I’ve plans for eating, if weather is wet and windy, i’ll have alternative plotted.

    Footpaths, are they fair game?
