Just a quickie … the entry forms for this years WRT have been emailed this afternoon. If you haven’t had yours then check your spam folder.

There’s still time to get involved if you haven’t already, just email stuart@forestfreeride.co.uk and ask for a form.

    Cheers

ok, I maybe mad but I have commited to attempting the WRT this year 😯

Iam really looking forward to it if I am honest. Doing it as an alternative to OSMM.

Be gentle with me Stu 😉

You’ll be fine … with a little time spent studying maps you’ll be able to make it as hard or easy(ish) as you want. I suppose 3 back to back days loaded, is never going to be described as easy 😉

Anyone else fancying it, don’t be shy. Email stuart@forestfreeride.co.uk and ask for an entry form.

Stuart, what’s the nearest railway station to the start? We’re a one car family at present so it looks like I’ll have to come up by train, can’t leave the family stranded out in rural Devon for several days without any transport.

Alternately, is anyone with a bit of space driving up to the WRT fom Bristol or the West Country? (I’m also currently trying to talk one or two of the Dartmoor Posse into doing the event to try and iron out any transport problems 😉 )

    Cheers, Rich.

(Riding a 456, sheltering under an Alpkit Tarp, and cooking me evening tea on a solid fuel stove 😉 )

Cheers Flatfish! Brizzle’s easy for me to get to on a direct train. If none of the local Devon riders decide to do the event in the next week or so then I’ll get back to you. Cheers 🙂

I think it maybe a On One and an Inbred festival at this rate, seems a lot of On One’s will be heading to mid Wales.

Stuart perhaps you should approach them for sponsorship??

I don’t know if it’s the nearest but I’ll happily pick anyone up from Machynlleth train station and give them a lift to the start.

Anyone else singlespeeding this? I’m thinking I’ll stick with the 32/19 currently on my 29er.

Mach’ is nearest station … about 12 miles if you go via the road, around 8 if you go via mountain and forest 😉

Don’t worry Vallydaddy, I’ve already had words with OO!

EDIT: Pedalhead, I might consider sticking another tooth or two on the back. I run two cogs on the back of my monster cross thing, 18t and 20t as a bailout option 😉

I went SS last year on my Pegasus and 32:20 was enough for me. A bit of extra weight on the bike makes more of a difference than you might think.

yeah I’ll be on my Pegasus 🙂 perhaps I’ll pop a 20t on the back then, cheers

Can you recommend me one of their albums? I see they have a few…

    Macc Lads

I just googled them and went to their website – whilst very funny, very little of it is suitable to broadcast on here…

Coming from their neck of the woods it makes me feel at home … must be the accents. You’re right though, not really safe to broardcast anywhere 😉

    I’ll bring the doughnuts

Good man, will be baking some flapjack.

Im planning on getting the train from Cheshire for the WRT, unless anyone is travelling south from nearby or meet on route? Will pay some money to fuel cost of course.

also on the same weekend and in wales is this:

    Cambrian Bike Fest May 28th, 29th & 30th 2011

Set in the heart of Wales in the Cambrian Mountains, Llanwrtyd Wells provides access to one of the few remaining wilderness areas in Britain and in May 2011 will host The Cambrian Bike Fest, a 3 day event offering challenging way-marked MTB routes for the beginner/novice through to the professional rider.

Llanwrtyd Wells has hosted many cycling events including the 2009 Merida. The 2010 Tour of Britain was routed through the town and will also see this years TransWales pass through.

This is a new event for Llanwrtyd Wells and will be the first 3 day MTB Enduro in the UK, it is being organised by local mountain bikers who have excellent knowledge of areas off the beaten track. The routes will take the cyclist through some of the most beautiful scenery in Mid Wales with energetic climbs and exhilarating descents.

The organisers are working closely with the community to make this event into a festival, with good riding during the day, street entertainers early evening, and the local restaurants and pubs offering good value menus for cyclists and non cyclists alike.

For further information go to http://www.redkiteevents.co.uk.

Possibly, will be booking tickets ahead to get cheaper ones, bit of a gamble with times. What times where you hoping to go and come back?

I picked up some maps based upon the general area when I went through the map box I realised I’m 3 off having the whole of wales on 1:25 😯

I’ll post this on this thread and the bivvy one to catch both.

What would a food list look like for a 3 day, 2 night trip such as the WRT??

Just wondering how to keep the weight and volume sensible whilst providing enough energy for a big lad 😉
