The very fact that this is far from the first thread on the topic over the past few years is a good enough reason.

Well, I quite liked him – at least from his posts.
As a non-regular can someone tell me is "Fred" his real name or a previous login name?

Shame he's been block in my opinion.

I thought he was an ignorant prat.

Mixed feelings really. A divisive sort of forum dweller – some posts were interesting and positive, but on the other hand many seemed to encourage discord.

His post/thread rate was extremely prolific to say the least. He must have enjoyed very accommodating employers/friends/partners etc.

His general 'rage against the system' ethos used to make me smile and I echo what Nonsense said.

Clearly he will be back under another guise but no doubt will be unable to restrain his wide, unequivocal views on all sorts of matters and will again be found out.

I sort of liked him actually. Wonder what his new name will be and what will the prize be for the first person that unmasks him?

    That Talkemada was Fred?!
I found sometimes he spoke out against some one side opinions while everyone remained silent.

Sometimes funny but I tend to avoid the arguements.
I didn't see where he went overboard but the mods are not that bad (are they?)

Maybe a yellow card system or a one week ban would be better to teach the culprit to take it easy.

Personally I think there could be loads banned for causing problems but Fred always seems to be caught out by people moaning to the mods. Was he banned last year for the Man Utd footy thing when someone called someone a name, Fred stood up and said it was not nice and got banned.

Again I think one sided views to ban one person is a joke. Sorry Mods but if you are going to ban someone then you need to ban loads like him and change the rules to make STW are nicer/polite place to visit like it used to be back in 2003 without people saying sorry tyre question-no need for sorry its a bike forum.

    Fred -He'll be back lol.

Reading through this thread, the one thing that always amazes me is that people end up becoming well known enough on here to be 'identifiable'. It's sort of counter intuitive to the idea that there is anonimity on the internet, hence why so many people end up sharing quite extreme views they perhaps wouldn't voice in person.
While I recognise a lot of the sign in names, the only person I would be able to actually identify is TJ but it's only because his views are sooooo different to mine (and I think the world is more colourful as a result )

Somewhere to the left of Tony Benn, now that was funny.

The lad's a bulb end, as I'm sure he'd tell you himself. No real problem with it myself in isolation, but you get 3 or 4 such attention hoors on a forum, posting all day and every day, and things start turning to ratsh_t.

This forum works (for me) because of the low-key moderation, it looks after itself by and large. If the mods are having to intervene and lay down the law in thread after thread I don't think I could be ersed with it. They probably couldn't, either, so have gotten rid.

previous log in his name can only be whispered in quiet circlesin hushed referential tones…he no longer e-mails me though 🙁

He's certainly ignorant of how to conduct himself on an internet forum so that his presence doesn't detract from others using it.

What Gary_Lager says about attention seekers is spot on. It spoils things when someone squats on a thread, purposely walking the line.

He'll love the fact there is an ongoing conversation about him. That tells you all you need to know.

The forum will be the poorer for his passing.

If I want boring predictable forums full of solemn questions about cycling or the best way to learn knitting, then there are lots of those around.

f I want boring predictable forums full of solemn questions about cycling or the best way to learn knitting, then there are lots of those around.

However, the presence of an individual on a mountain biking forum who didn't post about biking and just wound people up about non-biking subjects is better than knitting? Why not start a blog celebrating his uniqueness?

Fred is a nice guy who speaks his mind. I disagree with banning him, if he were over the top the forum would ignore his presence. The mods got it wrong IMO but as it's their playground…

If you want forums full of bedroom dwellers posting mediocre pish from their Mum's PC all the f-Kin time then there's lots of those around, too.

The point is that STW is a good balance – you can ask dry cycling questions, knock about the issues of the day, take the piss, ask personal stuff etc etc – whatever you want and whole thing breathes on it's own. Shrill bulb-ends jumping up and down shouting me me me are just a chore and make the forum less interesting.

Frikkin hell are we still going on about Talkabloodymada…fred…rudeboy…whoever, there must be a couple of threads doing the rounds about this bloke right now, it's academic really as he'll be back under a different guise by the end of the week.

I love this forum, and its gentle moderation, I'm a member on another forum non cycling related and I've had two warnings about minor stuff and I'm not normally someone who argues or bothers other people.

The moderation is a pain and very depressing, after being on here for so long, the other forum feels like living under a labour government. 😉

How is Smee? He was the grumpiest driving instructor I'd ever met, went all the way to that Scotland, did Innerleithen, and he was there at the bottom of Caddon Bank scowling away!

Tell him we did the Peebles-Cardrona-St Marys Loch-Moffat-Peebles road ride I asked him about, and it was as good as I hoped.

Well it was a good place before he joined as has never been any worse on he's previous absence, in fact usually much better.

Shame, I was glad to see him back. Certainly he could be confrontational, but often because others chose to keep on at him when he asked them to stop, as in the peasouper story. Persistently casting doubt on his dad's story when a brief google check would show the veracity of the story was just plain rude and Fred/Talky asked them to stop. There are, indeed others who have deserved bans a lot more and who have gotten away with stuff. Certainly TalkyFred seemed much more relaxed about things, so I for one am disappointed.

whilst I wouldn't agree with stifling your personality for the purposes of posting on a forum, I do agree that Fred's posts were destructive
    .
the guy's clearly got things going on in his head that need sorting out professionally – whether it's good for him to be banned or not, I don't know

He was right like i said about THAT farmer in question being in the wrong, It was all the offensive comments that went along with it that got my back up.

As mentioned above he soon got all uppity when someone (with good reason) called him a **** or a **** or a **** or a ********** etc. But if you read his posts no end of times he called many on here thick or unintelligent (just because he couldn't understand that they have a different point of view to him) racist, blah, blah.

Good riddance to the annoying, attention seeking, little **** STW is a finer place without – Hell we may even be able to have a funny thread or two now

Tend to agree with that. Everyone on here is entitled to their opinion but it was the sheer volume of his posts, clogging up almost every remotely interesting thread (well it seemed like that at times) which I found most annoying.

There must be loads of other forums out there more worthy of his perceived superior wit and political wisdom. Lets hope he finds them and stays there.

What utterly amazes me is that people take how people act on an internet forum as given.

Esp you Fred or whatever your name is, why do you want to argue with everyone?

Just chill and enjoy a forum for what it is, a place to get advice and also royally say things you wouldnt say in real life.

    Sheesh.

The best thing about him being banned is now we get to play another round of 'Find Freddy' with the new posters 😆

    barnsleymitch

Fred would be the first to admit that he can be a right pain in the backside at times. What is confusing is that he got banned, yet there are still people posting on here that hold far more worrying viewpoints. I suppose that's just life, but it hardly seems consistent.

I think it was the increasing amount of negative posts (that were getting painful).

I only got to chat with him this last week.. and he royally tried to rub me up the wrong way… and by his arrogance he succeeded.. and he got the right hump when given a taste of his own medicine.. but at the same time he also managed to find it in his heart to be humble and complimentary and genuine and kind when he felt it was appopriate.. (possibly shortly after a warning from the mods?)
I loved to hate him this week and bore his boorish banter with a begrudging bonhomie..

eulogy over… as others have said that he will probably be back soon so I say the pratt is dead… long live the pratt…
