Freestyle Friday! No litter picker just a bag stuffed in my pocket that was soon called upon.

I think I need to move to where all the other STW dog owners live as hardly anyone else has litter to pick!

    Monday double bagger,
Plenty of discarded fruit boostz to help keep little Johny hydrated. Overflowing bins.

Two empty floor paint tins lobbed onto the route home path from a lay-by.

Don’t worry selfish **** someone else will always clear your shit up.

    Let’s get **** trolley’d!

Greta – save your words, your generation don’t give a **** either. Drove past a big group of yoofs last night – lo and behold the area is trashed this morning.

Trolley fished out and returned to supermarket trolley graveyard, two bags, a curtain rail and a discarded Cisco router collected.

    Another **** litter rant.
Just taken Bert the doggo to a swimming spot that involves walking through a park – not the same one that my usual litter picking posts are about. He’s on lead out in front and he’s walked through broken glass and cut his pad – limping and bleeding. This is on a path that goes round the outer perimeter of the children’s soft play area and leads down to a river and the countryside beyond.

I must sound like the DailyMail but I am **** sick of the littering scum and self entitled **** that shit up this country especially when it’s injuring my dog.

Sorry to hear that RNP, hope Bert is back to full health asap.

It is everywhere and seemingly endless. The fly tipping is one thing but the small impact/high volume stuff is probably more annoying as there’s no reason for it. You brought it with you, take it home or put it in a bin.

I’ve cleaned the cut and it’s clean slice that’s closed up quickly. Medicinal cheddar cheese has been applied orally so all is good🐕👍

    2.7miles / 1hour = one bag of litter.
Note the flagstone weeding and repointing being done by Civicpride volunteer members outside the ELR station.

Two big pizza boxes, sauce and coke, slung into an empty parking space in the park.
    No photos.
Harold wished I would hurry up.

You can tell the weather has been a bit rubbish this weekend – only one bag this morning rather than the usual two.

Rawtenstall has been entered in Britain In Bloom this year. Civicpride have been doing an amazing job with the planters and generally making the town a nicer place to live so the least I can do is collect litter.

1bag filled and left at the Whitaker bin for the council to collect and half a bag brought home to finish another day.

1 bag of litter collected and 20minutes of balsam bashing. I’ve adopted a bit of land opposite our house next to the river. Over the last year I’ve stripped it of HB and planted 100’s of tree/bush seeds and berries, conkers etc that I pick up on my dog walks.
A lot of them are starting to grow now so just needs the occasional bit of maintenance when passing with Bert.

Hey RNP, thank you for starting this thread, its inspirational. My first litter pick tonight:

    Litter Pick

Majority of this was within about 100 yards of where I live. I had to stash it and return later with a bag.

I realise that I haven’t even made a dent into the local litter problem but it has made me feel better doing something positive rather than just getting angry about it. Hopefully it will become a regular habit. Will look into equipping myself with a picker and hoop thingy.

    Thanks again.

    Good work👍
With litter I think you can get either angry about it which achieves nothing or do something which then hopefully inspires other people to do the same.

It might be worth seeing if there is a local litter picking group or a contact at the council so you can leave ‘offical’ bags at the council bins for collection.

    JUDGING DAY!!!!

My home town of Rawtenstall is entered in Britain in Bloom. The whole town is looking great – Civicpride have done an amazing job as usual.

I did an hour this morning litter picking Friday nights detritus.

    Good luck!

Nice one, my efforts over the weekend:

    IMG_20220730_212911_9

    Recyclables sorted:

    IMG_20220730_213756_9

Found an unopened can of Thatcher’s, wasn’t brave enough to drink it.

    Disappointed in Uri…

    Good effort👍

Was discussing the subject of separating recyclables this morning with Civicpride – the problem with my litter picking is that potential recyclables end up in landfill as I don’t have the capacity to bring the rubbish home and sort it. Having a willful energetic dog in hand means I don’t have any spare hands for a separate bag. It might be I do alternate days – litter / recycling🤷‍♂️

1 bag collected from local park and nice path, bulked up by polystyrene chippy trays.
    Warm Bert!

When I’m out with Bert on a normal/non litter picking walk I try and do “poo and two” into the nearest bin (although two is easy)

A not very exciting picture of half a bag of self entitlement. Did half hour of balsam bashing on my adopted ‘wild garden’ this morning.

Monday morning Maccys mess – McLitter firmly in the lead this morning until we get to the park and have a clear winner!
    2bags filled.

Saturday morning Bag for life aka carry my cider then discard bag was reused and hand filled with litter on the way home.

On a brighter note – I think this new frame protection has potential.

Good lad Harold, Bert would agree though – warm sunny afternoon/early evening walks are for adventure swims, stick rescues and paddling!

Followed your lead today and went out to have a clear-up in the village this morning.

The local council have the main road through the village closed as they’re installing traffic calming. The lack of traffic meant it was safe to go and clear the verges along the road in to the village. It annoys me every time I cycle home and have to pass the dumped litter.
Next stop is the other road in to the village. The council won’t let a community litter pick go along there as it’s a 50mph road so hopefully it’ll be ok with the current lack of traffic.

Litter picking pays – as if cleaning your environment and making the world a slightly better place wasn’t enough you also find dropped money! £5 this morning totals £25 in notes this year so far.

    1bag collected.

    @bonni

Thanks – I’ve been litter picking for ~4years but decided to do a STW thread this litter picking season. Since we became Berts guardian I noticed how much litter there is in the local environment – especially so when you have a dog and are out and about numerous times per day.

In my home town of Rawtenstall there is a brilliant community group called Civicpride that do flower planters/hanging baskets/ flower beds / litter picking/river clean ups/balsam bashing etc and have transformed the town and made it a much nicer place to live. Me and Bert are a small part of that community team.

Tell you what Rusty, re: photos from a couple of weeks back, I wouldn’t be picking up that shit with my bare hands. Christ knows where it’s been.

Did someone really have a barbecue slap in the middle of a field and then just piss off?

    Incidentally,

I’m not a million miles away and in Rawtenstall semi-occasionally. If you know of a pooch-friendly pub I think I’d like to buy you a pint to say thank you. You’re doing a Good Thing here and inspiring others.

Whitaker Park – Rawtenstall, nice well kept Victorian park with plenty of bins.

Thanks for the offer of a beer but not necessary – I’m doing it to improve my own environment, if it inspires and encourages other people then that’s bonus enough.
