I decide to whip the car round and go back to pick him up. When we got back to where he was there was no one there. Both my sister and I had both seen him originally though!
I carry on my way drop my sister off, then go back home and call my mates house speak to his Mum she confirmed he’d been in all night.

He was pinning yer bird and his mum was in on it.

I used to live in an old converted barn at the bottom of “Hangmans hill”.

The corner of my living room would occasionally smell strongly of wild garlic. There was no wild garlic near and this would happen at any time of the year.

For the first couple of years all was well and I lived there on my own with my stereo and bikes. Once I put a TV in that corner things got a little odd. I used to have to make sure I turned the TV off at the wall or it would occasionally turn on through the night, then the stereo started doing the same. It takes two buttons to turn the CD player on and I became meticulous about turning it off out of habit.

When visitors came round I sometimes asked them if they smelled anything funny in that corner… and only a couple of times did I get told wild garlic… and when they smelt it I would go and see if I could too and usually I could.

The strangest things that happened though where items moving around the living room. Go to bed with everything in it’s usual place and come down in the morning to find something you hadn’t moved in the middle of the coffee table.

And then there was the cat… normally a very normal cat but he always avoided the TV corner, and if the wild garlic smell was present he would arch his back and heckles up backwards away from the corner of the room.

I’m sure there are rational explanations like faulty remote control buttons. Electrical sockets causing a wild garlic type smell, forgetfulness about moving stuff… and an ex-farm-cat that was a bit inbred and daft (but he never moved stuff as he was always locked out of the living room at night).

I liked the mystery and missed it when I moved. No more wild garlic smells, TV and stereo never come on anymore, I’m clearly not as forgetful as stuff never moves about… the cat was always daft though.

Just remembered another very bizarre one too! My folks used to have a place on Windermere which the now wife and I used to visit regularly. Had come off the M6 at J36 and was heading alomg the A590 at a fair old rate of knots in my M3 one friday summer evening.

As we turned off where the A590 becomes the A591 at Brettargh Lodge, we pulled up being a red Micra with a Jesus fish on the back being driven by a guy with what looked like his son in the passenger seat wearing a Man U top.

My dad and I had a 5th gear challenge up Lindale Hill as he had an Impreza at the time, so I was gunning it up Lindale Hill at 100 leptons or so, I overtook a Red Micra with a jesus fish on the back and when we glanced across my now wife saw that it was being driven by a guy with a young lad wearing a Man U shirt say next to him!

Very odd indeed and possibly complete coincidence (or he had a jet pack!), but it was about 8 years ago and I remember it vividly as it freaked us both out somewhat!

Is there part of this story missing? Did you overtake the same car twice?

Few years later, me and my then GF come home at 11pm ish, flick lights on in hallway. Nothing happens and when I look down I see a lightbulb lying on the floor next to my feet.

The lamp it was a from was about 15 feet up and 6 feet across from where we were stood.

I knew someone that pretty much the same thing happened to: bulb out of light, unbroken on hard wooden floor some distance from the fitting (or I used to know your ex-GF).

Mine: About five years old, Abbey House Museum, Leeds, vaguely remember my mum looking at me strangely as I said something about the woman who had just walked past.

Wasn’t till several years later that she told me that the something I said was to do with her old fashioned clothing, and more pertinently that the reason she was looking at me funny was that there wasn’t a woman there, as far as she could see. There is, however, a long history of a ghostly woman appearing in the museum.

+1 for “this is all bollocks” is kinda missing the point of this thread

+1 for that hospital one being a poor effort though, just on common sense grounds – if they’d checked the CCTV the question they should have been asking was: If you had been summoned as a “Crash” team to resuscitate a patient, what the **** **** were you doing stopping to give someone directions??

Everytime I’ve driven up there in the early morning I’ve absolutely nailed it. I wont say the speed but I think I’d miss said-ghost 😆

Oh and I’ve been royally ‘had’. I mentioned the kettle being redhot this morning to my co-workers and when I walked into the back this afternoon every cupboard door and unit/etc etc doors were wide open. Everything. I came back and mentioned/come and have a look… only after an hour of excitedly babbling did one admit.. PWNED. 😳

Yes sorry if it was unclear. I overtook him, was nailing it along at a fair old rate of knots and then overtook the same car about 5 minutes later with no way that I am aware of that he could have got past.

This was carpeted so maybe it’s a common phenomenon!

Ghost is real but our scientific minds just got the better of us by shutting down our comprehension of the other dimension. 🙄

I can suggest some experiments but then you will blame me if something goes wrong …

About ten years ago I was seeing this girl. After her gran died loads of weird things started happening at her house, a particular drinking glass (used daily) disappearing and turning up years later at the very back of the understairs cupboard (which was chock-a-block with stuff).

Newspapers being ruffled in your hand when you were reading them, a metal cork screw disintegrating in her dads hand one day. Pretty strange, and all after her nan passed away.

One night we went to sleep and when we woke in the morning both of our watches, the bed side table clocks and small ornamental clock from her shelf were all in the middle of the duvet. Weird!!….

My mum was a nurse and used to work in an a nursing home. Whenever there was a death in the building she said one side of the stairs would be freezing cold and there was always a prescence in the room around the time of death.
My brother was a fisherman on a deep sea trawler when he was younger and my mum gave him her cross to wear one day (just prompted to do it) he has no spirtual beliefs at all but put it on and went to sea. The boat was caught up in a massive storm and he was almost swept over the side. Only thing missing was his cross which he said was wearing under his waterproofs.
My mother in law was visiting us last year and walked out to the car, she just froze and looked up, and told me my dad was just standing watching us. He died 5 years ago.

“Bumped in to” a puma (or something similar) at Fingle Bridge, Devon.

Just starting to get to a deep dusk, but not by any means dark.

We were the last car in the car park near the Angler’s rest, and about 20m from the car we disturbed an animal in the dense woods just beyond the stream line – it let out a long, low growl…

The most blood chilling, hair on neck raising sound I have ever heard.

(ETA – including having a grizzly bear nudge our tent in the midle of the night, and waking up to find bear prints all over the camp)

The wife swears that the youngest boys bedroom is haunted…she has done since the eldest was in there. We got some kittens the other day and apparently they wont go in there so that’s sealed it for her. Anyway couple of days ago she mentioned all this and said that she was SERIOUSLY considering getting the room exorcised!! WTF.. Apparently she knows someone from work or something that has had it done in their house…Shes totally nuts I tell you.

My parents live in a flat in a NT house, built on top of an old monnestary which means lots of graves get dug up every time they lay a new phone line, water pipe, etc.

Never had anything weird happen to me and I’ve spent years living there but my mum and dad have a couple of odd stories.

My mum used to do the book keeping as it involved being in the office past closing time and living in the house meant my dad could locked up around her. This basically entailed walking through the house, making sure dust covers were on, blinds closed, fire doors shut etc etc. Anyway one night dad goes down to check on mum after locking up and she asks him if the houses ‘donor’ is in this week as she’s not seen his car but can hear him in his flat. He replies that no he’s not in this week. She says but I heard them upstairs. He says no, that’s the library upstairs, he’d locked up two hours earlier, the donors flat is in the wing opposite to our flat, 2 floors up and on the other side of the building from the offices. Mum’s convinced she heard someone calling for ‘Mary’ and walking arround the library looking for her. Turned out the housekeepers regularly see/hear the same person!

There was a bit of a petition amongst the volunteers and staff to get a most haunted style show to come round (I think the producers even got in touch). But my parents flatly refused as despite not believing in any of it they don’t want to be either proved wrong and have something properly haunting the place, or be constantly looking over their shoulders. Which I can see the point, I’ve wandered round the house after locking up before and it’s properly creepy.

My grandmother on my mum’s side used to live on a farm not far from Cockersands Abbey, if you’ve ever been there it’s a properly desolate place, pancake flat, miles from anywhere, always windy/cold/foggy. Anyway, the farm was haunted by the ghost of a black drummer boy, hardly surprising when you consider the number of ships that must be buried under those sands and Lancaster’s history as a slave port.

My brother had a fiend at primary school who had a serious congenital heart problem. He had been adopted by a local family and hadnt been expected to live very long but he confounded the experts, went to school and was such a wonderful kid. He died when he was nine or ten and my brother was very upset by the whole thing. The church was packed for his funeral.

About A week after the funeral I woke up late at night to hear my brothers voice downstairs. He was the same age as Michael, the boy who had died, and I was 11 or 12 at the time. I went down stairs to see what was going on and found my brother sat in the dark on the floor in the middle of the living room facing the tv. He’s crying a little by now and then he says ‘but I miss you’. I’m freaking out by this point so I ask him what he’s doing to which he says ‘saying goodbye to Michael’.

That really sent the shivers down my spine. But at that point he (my brother) stands up and says ‘goodbye’ and then says ‘ok I can go back to bed now.’

I have to say I’ve found this thread highly entertaining, and at times fairly chilling. I can’t say I’ll be lying in bed at night from now on fretting about small hatchback driving Baptists with a good handle on their local geography though… I’ve watched scarier episodes of Peppa Pig. 🙂

When I was about 7 or 8 I woke up, or dreamt I woke up to a giant big **** off blackhole/whirlpool thingy on the ceiling of my grans house.

Scared the crap out of me.

After that I become a stubbornly attached to logic and reason. This stuff only happens to people who believe they have a third eye/are open to being superstitious.

I was staying in rented accomodation in Liverpool, woke up beefore the alarm in the morning and felt body roll to the right with the weight of somebody sitting on the edge of the bed. I froze and stayed that way for quite some time….

This threads hilarious, imagine if that was actually a burglar, serial killer or worse a bum rapist? You’d freeze up, that’s the scary bit! I’d either shit myself and bolt out the window or go a bit psycho.

the family seem to think its someone looking over us as when nothing else happened after we both turned 18.

This is interesting. Several time in my childhood I felt that “someone” was about, and have heard a distinct male voice. The most memorable occasion was Christmas one year, when I crept out of bed to investigate the “Christmas stocking” my parent had placed at the end of my bed. As I did so, a strong load male voice (not my fathers) came from the darkest corner of the room and told me to get back to bed. My brother in the same room never woke up and my parents always denied being involved.

Also like a poster above, my parents (now non smokers) insist they can smell cigarette smoke at times in thier house. They insist my departed Nan (used to chainsmoke) sits at thier dining table and they can smell the smoke. I never told them, but (at my house now and the one before I moved in May) I get whiffs of this too. 😯
