It’s a ridiculous amount of money to spend on a picture book and some stickers.  I have though. And if it be had. One worn another one of those silly key rings like the one I lost over a decade ago I’d have spent silly amounts more.

Not if you consider how much you’d spent on all the copies of the magazine in order to get all of the Mint pages…

As soon as I saw the thread heading, which was about ten minutes before going to pick up my mate to go to the pub, I was on the site ordering my signed copy with the stickers! I mentioned it to my mate, who immediately asked me to send him a link, so he can get a copy, and he’s never been a mountain biker, he’s just loved Mint! He’s actually got one of the big Mint posters on his study wall, that I gave him years ago.

My copy will join the two keyrings, and the personalised drawings JoB did for me at the Bike Show…

Cheers, Jo, if you happen to read this; I’ve yet to put these into the frames I bought years ago, but they are very much treasured and appreciated.

ordered. Feel like the postage costs are taking the piss a little bit but don’t mind supporting smaller publishers like this (and Jo of course).

    Ooh, that’s my Christmas sorted!

I have “The eternal reek of damp wool”,and a calendar saved though I cleaned out most old mags a long time ago. I guess these stickers are from around 1992, the rest of the sheet went on long obsolete tech, but the Thermos goes on and on with just a few dents.

    Ive ordered too.

I’m not worried either way but this isn’t every Minty cartoon ever featured in MBUK I assume?

If it is, that’s even betterer of course!

I wondered that, maybe it’s the first tranch to determine the amount of interest it’s going to generate…

    …first of an ongoing series…?

I’ll be chuffed either way. It got to the point where I only used to buy MBUK for Mint Sauce which was a little ridiculous.

Mint Sauce takes me right back to when I first fell in love with mountain biking in the early 90’s. Minty is hard wired into a very happy time in my life, I’ll probably get a bit emotional reading through the book when it arrives.

Yes, I’m going there. I said that! 😀

It’s a selection plus a few new pages.

Missus got the HEAVY HINT notification.

Funnily enough I still have some of the original stickers kicking about on some, er, old paraphernalia at the back of the loft. “do less better” indeed.

    Thanks for the clarification mate.

I remember sticking a load of Minty stickers on to a red plastic, carry tool box I had in the early 90’s. I had about 10ish tools in it.lol

Now I’ve got a massive car mechanic sized one on wheels and STILL have to improvise some tools to remove certain bearings and carry out the odd bodge.

    Ah, simpler times…

Just be glad it isn’t published in America – the postage would double the cover cost… so roughly £100, £50 postage instead of £7.50.
That’s if they’d even be prepared to post to addresses outside CONUS*, which a great many merchants refuse to do these days.

People are far too used to Amazon free postage, when it now costs £1.20 to send a birthday card.

Can anyone remember a comic/image very similar to Mint Sauce that appeared in the back of a Sunday paper magazine back in the 70’s.

Telegraph, Observer, Times type of paper in the late 70’s mayby early 80’s.

    Something like IG or ID.

Anyone remember this ?  Or is it only me, having a brain fart !

Yeah, same here. JoB has an uncanny ability to encapsulate a state of mind and an entire period of people’s lives along with the emotions that go with them, which is remarkable.

    Not quite. Ogri 🙁

I think it’s was in the Observer.

Kinda of one page drawing and seemed to have a caveman vibe.

    Bugging me now 🙁

Well put and I’m glad to hear im not the only one that will be a little too consumed with the poignancy.

I’m a bad person and ordered from amazon as I had returns money in my account. Had an email from yesterday saying estimated delivery now between  mid December and May 25! Also no longer available to order.

Looked at the indi publisher and they’re showing mid November, I think it was Oct 28th originally? I’ll be cancelling Amazon and placing an order with them and crossing my fingers

I think it’s was in the Observer.

Not quite, Ogri is a biker with Viking-type wings on his helmet, and appears in Bike Magazine, a British motorcycle magazine.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ogri

Paul Sample, the creator, gave permission to a bike club to use the character as their club mascot, as the club initials are O. G. R. I.

The club was started by service personnel stationed in Osnabrük, my brother is a longtime member, and he’s in this photo, right in the centre wearing shades, with his hand on his chin!

Jo & the publisher’s did a discussion/chat session, great learning more from Jo and co, sat down with a beer and slice of cake.

Apparently there’s going to be another event up in that there London @ Via Atelier 27th Nov

If that’s what it costs to publish that’s fine, but £7 for shipping is a bit steep!

As I said before, it now costs £1.20 to post a greetings card, I ordered a couple of enamel Poppy Day pin badges from the RBL and someone forgot to put a paid postage stamp on and I had to pay a £5 surcharge! That was for a little envelope less than half the size of what the Mint book will be, so £7 is, sadly about par for the course these days.
Again, we’re too used to free postage from Amazon Prime and anything on eBay posted from China. And I repeat, postage from America would literally double the cost. Be thankful for small mercies!

Postage is not too bad given have to allow for packaging and protection as well as the actual postage.

I’ve had to order a textbook from the states as out of print everywhere else and postage is over £70 for 10-30 day shipping because it will be large and heavy.

Presumably he’s not posting with Evri and just  hoping it makes it to the right address.

Insured with someone that will definitely get it to the addressee is worth it.

Due to a cock up with Cordee I have now had my original copy of Mountain Style, two more copies of Mountain Style and then once I refused delivery of the extra two copies they were redelivered a few days later FFS. I am awaiting these being collected.

I’m now quite hopeful that I might get multiple copies of the Mint Sauce book 😉

In a cardboard ‘amazon’ envelope it’s almost certainly under 25mm – so maybe £2.50.  if it’s bigger than that it’s £3.25.  Tracked and signed for 48hr is under £5.

So nearly £5 for the postage and then a bit extra for the packaging and labour… £7 sounds a lot but doesn’t seem excessive when you add up the actual costs.

So there are two launch events, at which I’d hope you’d be able to buy a book without paying postage.

South Downs Social, Winchester SO23 8AF – Sunday 17 November, 18h – join Jo Burt and designer James Blackwell for an evening of Mint Sauce. Sign up here!

VIA Atelier, London N1C 4AB – Wednesday 27 November, 19h – Mint Sauce launch party with Jo Burt. No RSVP necessary!

I’ve a gig in Brixton that night which is annoying….

Wait until you find out that they’re making a profit on the book as well. Outrageous!

@ossify you forgot that it’s probably being done by a fulfilment warehouse rather than Jo sitting in his garage. Another cost.

I’ve a gig in Brixton that night which is annoying….

Probably more so considering you’ll be getting your trousers pulled down on the ticket price.

But how much do you consider the travel to cost in terms of time and monetary value?

Not the book but if you missed out on the key ring
