I havent had one since 1st Nov

    Well done!

    How are you finding it?

Today was hardest so far. Stopped on Thursday, none since then. Friday and yesterday were ok really, but not done much today and really fancied one ALL day.

Can’t decide if I want to go for a run either!

Go for a run emsz. Today is the toughest day as receptors in your brain are screaming out for nicotine. Tomorrow they’ll be over it.

Fancied but didn’t, cool. Think about what positive contributuion a ciggy would have made to an otherwise empty day. Nothing!

Go for a run and give yourself something positive. 😆

Its been fine really, I’ve smoked for years on and off but never quite had a reason to stop till my son was born. I also havent been pissed much since he was born either!

    But it’s raining!

Have to say though, it’s this thread that’s made me do this and is keeping me going. I think were all well awesome! Especially Yeti and Darcy

Stay on that wagon emsz. Any word from binners?

Awesome stuff a_a! You and I are on roughly the same timescale then.

    *hangs head in shame*

Sorry folks, I’ve been rubbish. I have lapsed fairly regularly. Or put in a positive light: I’ve cut down fairly spectacularly

So… I’m taking the positives and I’m going to keep heading in that direction. I’m aiming for a smoke free day, sort of naturally, by the end of the week

Well done you lot. I’m really proud of you and taking it all as an inspiration

Don’t worry about it binners, get back on whenever, have a little think about why you picked up the fags again and what positive effect resulted in having a smoke. Did the beer really taste better? Did it cure the boredom? Perhaps it was a smoking friend offering a ciggy and challenging you like the tags up there. These folks are funny, they want you to fall off the wagon because they know they can’t give up and want to see you fail too.
Again I would suggest reading the Allen Carr book.

    Go for it. 😉

Keep at it at your own pace guys 😀

If you give in- **** it. Its only a matter of time.

binners – take control. Do not have your life dictated to by a cigarette. YOU are in charge. Yes, you can do it!

Good luck this week binners. I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for us both. Check back for inspiration to this thread. Cos it makes me want to try really hard to stop (that and I can’t afford it lol)

Good stuff emsz. Keep at it. Your body is already repairing itself.

binners, have you considered trying nicotine lozenges rather than insisting on cold turkey? If you’re really struggling with a ciggie at a certain time of the day, a lozenge can take the physical edge away while you work on the mental side of it. Boots and other chemists will do them for a prescription charge. (Tesco do their own brand very cheaply too).

Hoo har! 2 weeks ciggy free, 44 hours nicotine gum free.

    Keep it going people.
Binners… what about the ‘Fags U Can Kick Easy Ride’S’ gatherings you were talking about in the summer… I was getting excited about those.

Keep at it. We are all going to die, thats a given but imagine bone cancer etc as a slow and painful way to go?

I discovered today that it’s not Nick O’Teen lozenges to which I’m addicted, but ****’ sucking on sweets. Halls soothers – yum 🙂

Another day done. Finding it pretty ok at the minute. After last week when I was desperate for a fag, this time has been really…easy. After that it’s bound to to wrong LOL!

    Not sucking on anything 😳

I suppose the question is emsz… did smoking help you last week? Did it make you feel better?

    emsz

Hmmm if I’m honest it was a reaction to the shit that was flying about. And yeah it helped me to calm down. I think you need to be in a good place to give up the fags.

Don’t wanna go through that again

Remember at this time of year you”ll feel like crap anyway. If you slip- no wirries, just climb back up onto the horse. Onwards and upwards with your ladder to success and we can beat this mike-tyson style…

    Now for less puns.

Binners- quiting may make your ginger mane grow back 😮

    binners
    Full Member

Hora – I don’t want my mane back, ginger or otherwise. I’d have to bother about shampoo and haircuts and stuff. Terrible faffy nonsense!

Anyway. Myself and my quitting buddy got together for a progress report and a glas of wine of five last night. While watching with a wry smile the episode of Father Ted where he gives up fags for lent. Anyway – We’ve both lapsed a bit but we’re heading in the direction. namely – we’ve stopped the daytime smoking but have both succumbed to temptation while having a beer

So we’re opting for some assistance from here on in. We’re giving the patches a go to try and get us through. Should make things a bit easier

Well done you lot. I’ll catch you up soon. I’m determined 🙂

    Well done binners.

Hopefully this new method will work for you and having a quitting buddy must be a big incentive as well.

Caved in 2 nights ago and had 2 cigs. Haven’t had one since. Still feeling positive. I’ve been doing some pretty serious eating though 😳

Thats another thing you really need to watch: increased alcohol consumption during/after you’ve quit.

It can be come ‘epic’ to cover/dull the pain of losing the fag-high.

    Agreed.

Also, alcohol can diminish your resolve to stay off the ciggies.

I’ve been doing some pretty serious eating though

Try eating less stuff like crisps/chocolate, instead try something like boiled sweets, as you can nail a Mars bar in a few seconds, yet a boiled sweet or similar you can suck on for several mins and have a lower calorie hit.

The idea is to give your gob something to do for a period of time instead of having a ciggie hanging out of it.

I’ve been taking a load of fruit into work as I am definitely eating more with the non-smoking.

I don’t know what’s shocking my body the most. Nicotine withdrawal or the sudden introduction of Vitamin C into my diet

    hora

Vit C- I went crackers for orange juice. Apperently it helps leech out nicotine in your system quicker.

Also sounds a wee bit mad but I found eating a long french baguette (just biting into and tearing chunks off dry) kept me busy for a longtime.

    +1 the boiled sweets.

And have small apples, satsumas etc around the house for snacks instead of crisps/chocolate.

Strangely, beer doesn’t really bother me. I was out for a few shcoops the other night with mates – two of whom (then three, leaving me as the only non-smoker 😯 ) were tabbing out in the rain. I guess I was handy as a hang-on-to-the-table guy. I felt rather smug. (but only inwardly) 8)

I have also heard that vitamin C helps the body get rid of nicotine quicker as well and if you continue to smoke at the same time you will be putting your body through a time each time you partially. However, this will be mitigated by your patches.

    Keep at it though.

Another day done. Another few quid better off than you would have been. How’s everyone feeling?

I’m feeling fine. Didn’t suck on too many sweeties today (steady on there fuzzywuzzy).

Try having a normal stretch from drinking. 3rd day without booze today.

Back in the day when you could smoke in pubs I remember drinking more when I was trying to quit as it gave me something to do with my hands.

Sod that. You can prize the espresso from my cold dead hands.
