Hora – seeing as you’re being all supportive. Can I come round and kick you in the nads when I inevitably get really irritable? 🙂

I was lucky that I did not suffer the irritability that most suffer from when giving up smoking and I think a lot of it was linked to my state of mind at the time.

I hated smoking so much that I was really pleased to be giving up a habit that I despised and it seemed to work.

I’ve fluffed and folded, hoovered and polished, washed up, house smells of bleach. I’ve plucked and shaved, now going to recycle and shop for tea. Only couple of hours to go to 24 hours. Feeling pretty cool.

WILL not buy sweeties to compensate

If it helps initially then why not?

Something to suck on, (stop laughing at the back), like polos/boiled sweets etc if you are worried about piling on calories. My weapon of choice was chupa chups 8)

emsz – go walk past a pub and see an old fag-hag smoking! Look at her skin, errgghh!

Just had the pleasure of being able someone smoking by the fire escape whilst I was doing an RPM class down the gym.

Keeping yourself out of mischief then Emsz?

It was a novelty not to feel the need to pop out for a fag at lunchtime. Can’t say I missed it. I do it purely unthinkingly.

However – I’m starting to get concerned about my Mini Cheddar intake. Have you had the Branston ones? Mmmmmmmmmmmmm. Miles better than fags 😀

I put on just over half a stone after I stopped smoking. I conducted a mini survey on another forum and that seemed to be about the average amount, although it was quite variable with some quitters managing not to put any on, lucky gits.

I found rather than eat more when I quite quit, I ate loads when smoking anyways, it was the boozing that increased.

It’s hard work on a Friday night when you go out with friends and have a few drinks. That scenario would often be the downfall of me.

Nowadays though it must be a lot easier with the ban on smoking in public places.

I am looking out the window here and it is snowing and just around freezing, can’t be much fun for those who are still smoking hanging around outside in the smoking area having a smoke on nights like this.

Let’s hope our STW quitters are doing well.

Whoah, whoah, Phil, whoah… are you saying I’m not better than that, or that I can still be a ho even if I don’t smoke no mo’?

Been out for a few beers, now enjoying a fine glass of armangac. I might’ve well just drunk any old cheap brandy when I was smoking 😳

How are the others gettin along? emsz is over a day now, binners must be close…

Now you see the ‘one won’t hurt’ tag up there? That was written by someone less awesome than you guys. The person who wrote it is jealous and wants to see you fail to justify their weakness. Believe in yourselves. You are all AWESOME, from one who knows. 😉

After 24hrs you’ve experienced most of the habitual smokes and survived, the first one of the day, the coffees, work etc, so tomorrow will be easier. Respect.

Well nobody’s tagged me as Awesome have they!

I tell you what’s not Awesome… not getting a dispatch note for my new frame.

I feel the same about smoking as I did pre my Xmas indulgence. I’m just here to cheer on the others…

    How are our quitters today?

Your breath should be a whole lot nicer. It might not feel like it, but your body is breathing a little easier and food should already be tasting better. Energy levels should be increasing.

    AWESOME 🙂

Come on quitters, where are you?

I’m doing a big tidy up round the house this morning… found 4 packs of Rizzla, almost put them in my paraphernalia box… they’re now in the bin covered in food waste.

Also… if you’re as obsessive about things as me, spend this weeks ciggy money on a blood pressure monitor and enjoy watching your vital stats improve over the coming months 8)

I had a cigar and couple of Marlboro over christmas, just to see what it’s like. Pleasant enough but didn’t see the point in spending money on it and losing health and stinking like an ashtray.

Go on quitters, you can be ex smokers, just think about the self-esteem boost you’d get turning down Cheryl Cole…

    Afternoon all

You’ll be pleased to hear I’m doing worryingly well. Had a few beers last night but didn’t go out. Had the urge but not that strongly.

This morning I walked down to the shop to get the papers. Now normally this is my cue for ‘first cig of the day’. However; I got to the newsagent and thought ‘I wonder why I’ve not thought about the first fag of the day?’. So I’m more intrigued as to why I’m not finding it harder.

Its early days yet, but that bodes very well indeed 🙂

The urge for nicotine is strongest just after you finish a ciggy, so the longer you are without, the lower the desire to smoke. That’s the physical addiction finished now, the rest is just mental.
Be happy, you are now without any physical addiction. 😆

    TheSouthernYeti

Awesome Binners. By tomorrow night you’ll have overcome the physical dependency, after that point it’s just a habitual or stress trigger that’ll drive you to smoke.

And it sounds like you’re doing well with the habitual side of addiction…

I’m thinking of joining you on Monday – hmmmm, decisions, decisions.

    Go for it!

At least give it a decent try as it giving up smoking is not always something you will succeed at first time around. I reckon I must have tried to give up around 20 times before now.

Keep logged into here and posting as you will get plenty of support 🙂

Here’s what I’ve done as an incentive to myself. I’ve gone and bought a nice watch and I’ve told the Mrs if she catches me smoking she can take it and put it on ebay.
Although my main incentive is being healthy enough to see my children grow up.
Best of luck to everyone who’s quitting

Not smoked now for 4 1/2 years, feel better and all the money that I would have spent has go on my bikes/equipment, it was probably cheaper smoking TBH but mountain bikes are way more fun.

    Morning fag fans.

Who else has made it through the weekend smoke free? If you’ve got this far you’ve made it through the toughest 3 days, if you indulged… Monday is the best day for qutting!

Well we know that sadly, one of our quitters has fallen off the wagon, albeit temporarily I’m sure 🙂

    Afternoon all

Right! Firstly: I confess. I lapsed yesterday. But this isn’t playing out as planned at all. In order that I wasn’t tempted I decided to avoid having a beer. So I’ve had a booze free weekend. The first in a very long time.

I did however find a packet of fags in my glove compartment yesterday and I relapsed, almost unthinkingly (i get very stressed watching united games). However; I’m not giving up giving up. I’m back on the wagon again this morning. I’m getting there! I’m back to commuting on the bike so hope to see my fitness improve if I stay off both the beer and the fags

I survived all weekend without a single smoke, but oh my holey Jeebus it was hard going! And I ate just about everything I had in the kitchen.

So my initial plan to lose the mince pie belly gained over Xmas has taken a back seat, but I reckon there’s much more benefit from stopping smoking than from stopping snacking.

As to those who have succumbed, well keep trying, it is hard work but worth it 🙂

    …..last week’s ‘giving up’ was a bit of a non-starter. Back on today….polos aren’t addictive are they?
