Sell complete or split down ?

I’m not sure whether or not to sell my 5 spot whole or split it down.

I know most people would say split it down but judging on prices of parts selling on here I don’t think I would get as much as I thought as you have to pay postage and PayPal fees on each item ?

What do you think ?

Uberbike bottom bracket
Hope seat quick release
Easton ec70 post.

I want to keep my bars and stem.

Now I’ve been offered £1050 including postage and PayPal fees for the whole bike which is a little less than I was hoping but I guess 26ers aren’t worth much nowadays.

Do you think I would get more for it in parts ?

With the lack of success in selling complete splitting is surely the only answer.
Or keep it and ride it until it dies.

Take that offer, it’s bloody good IMO.

Probably not. Cut your losses or just ride it. It’s a fine bicycle.

If I’m honest I’d take that offer, 26 bikes are a nightmare to sell nowadays and you could post it for £23 so should get near £1000 all done. I just split mine and did sell jt a lot quicker but it was a pain in the arse going to the PO daily and postage is always more than you’d think

I just feel as though I’ve spent loads on the bike.

You will always spend loads on new parts but in reality once they’re fitted and ridden they’re wirth 50% of purchase value….bit like buying a new car drive it out the showroom say goodbye to a couple of grand!
My advice for what it’s worth is ride whatever bike you really enjoy and don’t get sucked along by all the bike industry marketing. For mere mortals I agree that a bigger diameter wheel rolls over most stuff smoother but, the front end is inherently heavier, the bike in general is not as easy to move around on the trail and there is a noticeable increase in wheel flex over a 26″ wheel……..that and my 29er XC bike with 100mm travel forks isn’t as fun overall as my Cove Stiffee with 140mm and a dropper post…….or as fast downhill and super comfortable as my 26″ full suss.
If I was forced to have one bike only at this time, it would have to be the Cove……….can’t believe I just said that, scratch that it would be the full suss but built up with lighter weight brakes, forks, trail orientated bars/ stem/ pedals 😆

The thing is I’ve just bought a voodoo bizango 29er for commuting and quick jaunts around the woods plus to see if I get on with bigger wheels.

My idea was to sell the spot and if I like the 29er buy a codeine

Renton, seriously mate you have been trying to sell that bike for ages on various forums with not a sniff. Take the money and get the bike you want. Far too much dithering going on.

So you are already a partial convert to bigger wheels then whereas I’m happy to stick with my 26″ wheels. Have you broken any 29er wheels yet or ridden anything more than local woods on them to really notice any difference….I am of course assuming local woods to be just rooty with the odd drop and nothing too extreme.

I’ve not ridden it yet as it is being delivered next week.

My advice is ride it a lot, ride it on a technically challenging ride as well then go and ride the same technically challenging trail on your full suss. See which one you could live without before going for a wheel size change. That’s my advice,…and that’s why I’m staying 26″.

I think that is a good offer to.Full susses are great but you lose a lot on them.If someone is buying one secondhand you always have the worry about the shock/forks/frame bearings.Plus last years models or further back go very cheap in 26″.Splitting you would end up with less plus a lot more hassle.

I’d normally say split but that seems like a good price for the bike to be honest.

Don’t listen to Suggsey, sell it. Have a good go on the 29er then make your mind up from there. If you like 29″ get the On-One, if you don’t get a bargain 26″ or 650b. You’ve already decided you want to change so you may as well get on with it. 😉

This still going on? Take the money and get on with a new bike. It’s only worth what someone wants to pay. That’s a good price, take it. The longer you hang on to the bloody thing wanting more the more the price will reduce. Frame is four years old after all! Take the cash.

I just haven’t gelled with this bike for some reason, can’t put my finger on it to be honest.

On the other hand I’m worried that if I sell it and buy something else and it turns out that I don’t get on with that either.

Right you’ve just said effectively you don’t like the bike…..my advice is now sell it!
Ride the 29er and next bike have a good demo ride before you commit to it or you will be in a perpetual wold of giving other folk bargain bikes 😆

I’ve been scoping out 26er sales as I need to sell a couple following a splurge on a new 650 hard tail and if I get that much between the pair of my Soul with 32’s and Chameleon with 36’s I’ll be over the moon.

The best advice is already up there, the longer you hold out, the lower the price is going to get. There’s too much good 26″ stuff available due to people upgrading from what are already nice bikes, making it a buyer’s market. Get the money then decide what you’re buying next once you know what you have to spend. Also as Suggsey suggests, demo whatever you’re looking at as hard as possible if you really liked this one then just didn’t click in the end. Might be a problem with the Codeine, I’m not sure OnOne offer much more of a demo than riding round the carpark (happy to be wrong on that) but for anything else, a paid demo might be a good spend once you’re pretty sure what you want. Most places will refund it if you buy the bike…

How much were you hoping for? It can’t have been much more surely? You’ve gotta remember it is built up with low to mid range parts, and those 5 spots were well known for having ropey geometry. Plus it’s an out of date wheel size.

You should cut your losses. Of just sell the frame and buy one of those Genesis Grapil frames for £350, or any other cheap 26″ frame.

That doesn’t mean diddly squat, it’s still 4 years old. You say you don’t get on with it, take the cash. I don’t mean to be rude, but personally feel you’re being really daft about this bike.

If you hang around too much making your mind up as to what to do or if they see this thread the prospective buyer will walk away.
Take the bloody cash now while you can or, if it’s such a new bike (in your eyes) keep it.

As it happens it was up to 1300 before someone asked me to pull it a d then changed his mind.

If you pulled the auction after bids were made then I’m afraid you’ve lost my goodwill.

I only end auctions with no bids – after I’ve got a non refundable deposit.

It was the highest bidder that asked me to pull it to do a deal outside eBay. Then when I did he chNged his mind.

Anyway it’s sold now.

Sounds familiar over a frame I held for a buyer for 3months..who changed his mind.

I saw it on ebay looked like the auction was going well, but never pull the ad till someone puts cash in your hand.
£1000 is probably not a lot compared to what you paid, but im guessing a chunk of cash was spent changing the color etc, that wont increase its value, so its money lost….
BUT if you have a 1K offer Its still £1000 to use and spend rather than a bike in the shed you never ride and is only depreciating the older it gets. Sometimes you gotta bite the bullet.

If the parts are all new and good you could sell them easily if you break it, but if you bought them new and paid full RRP then your still gonna loose money!

Alternatively Why not break it and sell the parts that wouldnt go on a 29er frame , wheels , fork and build a codine if thats what you fancy keep your brakes mechs stem etc.
Codine frame is £800 you would proably almost get that for your frame fork and wheels and a good clear out of the shed!
Buy some wheels, tyres and forks (im thinking Pikes from Alltricks) and your off big wheeling!! 😀
