I’m currently running a 11-25 Dura Ace 9000 rear cassette. I’m finding perhaps due to age or lack of strength I need a few extra gears.
I’ve decided to replace the current cassette with a 11-28 and sell the redundant one on eBay to recover costs.
So, do I replace the Dura Ace with another Dura Ace, or save a fortune and put on an Ultegra, which I know has a marginal weight difference? Or do I push the boat out and put on a Sram XG1190, which appears to get great reviews?
Any thoughts from those who know better than me?

ultegra (or 105) for me, though I don’t know better than pretty much anybody

I’d sack the 11t and get one with a 12t, then you’ll get an extra more useful gear in the middle somewhere.

If you don’t know then just buy a cheap cassette.

WTF reviews a cassette? Folk that buy the pricey ones.

105 is same as Ultegra apart from the cosmetic finish and steel vs alloy lock ring which is worth about 5-10grams?

It’s a consumable, stick 105 on, and +1 for ditching the 11, unless you’re regularly spinning out the Big Dog get a 12 and close the gaps.

If there’s one place I won’t spend that sort of money its on a consumable, especially Shimano cassettes where beyond a few grams there’s bugger all difference. 105 for me.

Pretty sure 105 is not the same as Ultegra. My Ultegra cassette has 5 cogs on 2 carriers, think my last 105 one had 3 cogs on one carrier and all the others were separate cogs.

Ok, it’s either an Ultegra or 105.
Will I notice any difference in performance against the tree times the price Dura Ace?
I don’t really care about the weight. I’m not the most svelte rider!

I’m more surprised that someone would buy an used cassette on eBay!

dura ace innit, It’s shiney it excites, as harry hill used to say.

has it changed for 11spd, pretty sure my 10spd 105 and Ultegra have same number of cogs on alloy carrier?

I guess so, just think of cassettes as consumables given how they wear.

DA9000 ones creak. Ultegra don’t. I’d get Ultegra.

Go ultegra. No point in dura race unless you are racing lots.

Ultegra and ditch the 11T unless you are running a compact. I race lots on Ultegra cassettes – it’s not the cassette holding me back!
