Are the Mavic 119, 219, 319,419 all as good as the old F519?
    strength and weight wise?

    Probably not.
First number refers to the quality/features of the rim.
    Last two is size.
Hence the top of the range being 8xx rims and the boggo oem rims usually being 1xx.

Not been overly impressed with there new offerings of mtb rims they are quite soft and not that great to build. There road rims are on par with others but nothing to really praise think there a bit behind technically compared with others at the same price point.

    what are the alternatives then?
the 519 was a great rim for what I want, can I get the same size, quality etc for less now?

I was kind of assuming that new technology would have got to the lower ranges by now , like the old/new xt/deore stuff

Mavic haven’t introduced any new MTB rims for about 15 years. I can’t understand why anyone would buy them now.

Stan’s or Pacenti for my money.

Stans start at 50quid on CRC, I’m looking for a 20quid rim I can use with V brakes if need be
less than 500 grams and will take 2.2 tyres
    Pacenti look more expensive!

I have Sun singletrack and CR18 but one’s too heavy and other’s too weak

Just get the right one to fit your budget. 3xx is where the decentish stuff starts.
Eyelets. Decent alloy. Strong enough. Machined brake track (they might all have that now)

And TBH what njee20 says does apply. Mavic haven’t updated any of their rims or had anything particularly competitive in the mtb world for 10 years. Road is slightly better. But not much.
The main benefit is you can get them anywhere, they aren’t massively expensive for and that they are and they are really easy to build.

Mavic really want you to buy their system wheels, that’s where the money is.
