I’ll be in Dorset for a week over Christmas and wondering if it’s worth taking the bike. Haven’t been for years so just wondering what it’s currently like.

Lots of forestry work this year, but the trail pixies have been hard at work so still worth a visit.

Just got back from riding the forest, it’s held up well with the recent rain and plenty of new stuff keeps popping up. Okeford Hill (formally UK Bike Park) is up and running again too.

Can somebody suggest a good route please, as well as a parking spot?

Based in Salisbury these days and twisty Singletrack is currently many miles away

For parking, this is the usual spot:

As for routes, you’re probably better off just having a nose around yourself, there’s a lot of trails, but no real “route” as such. If you join the Ride Puddletown Facebook group they have a map of some of the main trails on there, although it’s a few years old now and the forestry work changed a lot it’ll give you an idea.

AndyRT I’m from Salisbury too, you’re obviously riding in all the wrong places! We head over there once every 6 weeks or so (more in summer). Happy to play guide

I’ve never managed to work out a logical route around – I just embrace the random selection of ups and downs. I think it’s getting more popular again, often end up joining another group or even leading visitors around (not that I’m actually a local!) The downs are generally short but a lot of fun and some are fairly technical.

This map predates last year’s logging and this year’s trail building:

The stuff in the bottom right is gone. Braking Bumps and all the trails running to the left like 3 In A Row are a good place to start. The trails in the open sandy heathland are great in the wet. D’s Revenge sends you fast into a rocky sand dune/berm before you vanish into the greasy woods with two routes to finish.

    I’d be very grateful.

Best wait for winter slop to pass first though, but email me and we should organise a ride?
