50 GB free per month for 1 year on VPN Windscribe with coupon code KOMPUTER.

You enter the code at registration, you must confirm the e-mail address to get the 50GB a month allowance.

    Found this offer on HotUKDeals.

I use these and currently have 20gb free per month. Entered the code and now have 50gb every month.

Not as fast as some VPNs but still useable

So you tell them your email address, and they know your IP address, and they get to sit in the middle and monitor all the filth you watch when you think it is safe.

What could possibly go wrong…? 😉

If the service is free you are the product.

They employ people to do that? 😆 Can’t they find their own filth?

Yep, but it’s a model that works for some of the largest service providers on the web (and STW of course). Doesn’t mean it’s some kind of nefarious plot.

Whether it’s a suitable product for you really depends on your intent – if you’re worried about what your ISP sees then do you put your trust in Windscribe or another VPN provider for that matter, paid or otherwise.

If you just want to be able to access The Pirate Bay or Dave’s House of Funbags when the grot police take control in July then it’ll probably do the job for you.

    Ha tough crowd.
If you’re going to stream grot then I’d suggest this offer maybe isn’t for you.

Does it work with a Bit Torrent client? (Asking for a friend)

Probably, but if your goal is just to spoof your location to reach Pirate Bay or whatever the in-built VPN in Opera is probably easier to use – although it won’t hide your activities from your ISP, you’ll need to config your torrent client for that.

    So I hear.

No, but it is always worth questioning motivations and how they plan to make money from this venture.

STW, for example, it is pretty clear how the forum makes them money (or pays for itself at least). People pay for Premier accounts, or get adverts, plus it increases the draw of the site and hopefully the readership.

The VPN is less obvious. Unless they plan to insert adverts then how will they make money? Presumably by selling data they gather.

That doesn’t stop it being a good deal – just go in with your eyes open.

Most reputable VPN providers operate a no logging policy so the selling your data model would not really work too well, in addition as we are dealing with security as soon as it was discovered a providers sold personal data or suffered data loss issues their reputation and customer base would seriously be damaged. People will find a different one.

I am sure part of the free service is to get you using the product and entice you to subscribe so you are not data limited later on down the road, it is possible there is ad revenue to be had but part of the Windscribe bundle is ad and tracker blocking so that seems a little counter productive.

VPN’s are one of those things that you really have to read the T’s and C’s to find out exactly what you are signing up for, you also have to evaluate if they are based in a country with strong privacy laws to protect what data they do keep about you as well as if they own their own network or rent from other providers.

You only get access to a few locations on the free plan, and there is life outside of the UK. The free locations may not suit people in other countries but will give them a chance to try the service (eg. I’m in Oz, the Au/Nz locations are only available to paid subscribers).
Also, if you want to use it for Netflix you have to use the paid service.
