Just thought i’d update on here, mine arrived yesterday and i fitted them late last night…..

First off, a bargain at £30, especially for this time of year to run through the winter.

CRC mention the hoses are short, not true….although the front is short its still plenty long enough for all bikes, the rear hose is too long for my medium hardtail, 1500mm in fact! the only thin on the negative side is they are euro set up so i fitted mine upside down, really not an issue. the rear brake also comes with an IS mount adaptor.

    It really is a no-brainer! 😀

Well I have bought a rear (which hopefully has a RH lever to go with the LH one I have already)

That will provide me with some new pads which I need, a spare caliper and I will have a pair of levers to use if I ever get bored of dual control.

Thanks OP, mine arrived yesterday and were fitted last night.
For a large 29er build so the rear was a bit too short, it reached but was pulling tight when turning the bars. Swapped the levers round and replaced the rear hose with one of these:

    shimano hose
and used an epic bleed kit off ebay.

    Nice PSA.

yeah that hose kit costs almost as much as the brake! surely some hose and some olives will do? cheapest source, superstar?
can confirm it comes with 2 caliper bolts (no mount adapter of course, choose to suit rotor).
extremely basic looking design for filling reservoir, no idea how well it works.

Just arrived, bargain of the year.
All hose’s and fitting’s in the bags.
Euro handing works well, as the wife ride’s cack handed anyway.

Might buy another set for that price.

Swopping the levers is no problem, they don’t need a bleed kit, five minute job tops.

My mate bought some and the hoses weren’t long enough for his medium on-one 456, not even the front one, so I presume they are sending out different length hoses after reading how long some of the above hoses were.

    Mine are in.
Thatnks OP. Not really needed but an excuse to build up another bike I guess :O)

Mine arrived this morning. Rear includes an IS adaptor. Hoses look shortish but will fit my daughter’s bike fine- can see how long travel forks, 29ers etc might struggle.
Can’t see the issue with the reservoir – similar design to any other Shimano.

    Thanks OP, nice one.

Perfect for the somewhat odd looking 12″ framed / 26″ wheel Spesh Hotrock I’m getting ready for my 7yr old. Shorter hoses shouldnt be a problem, front will run 440mm rigids anyway. Already have a few spare rotors. Just need some cheap disc hubs to rebuild the wheels on to… (sneaks back to CRC) 🙂

anyone know if Hope standard hoses and Superstar olives would work on these. Front hose is too short on mine. BTW you can easily swap the hoses over by just undoing the fittings at the brake lever end.

Shimano hose measures as 5.2mm external diameter. Hope is stated as 5mm.

Not sure of the internal diameters.

    Thank you CRC.

Yep mine arrived today as well …. excellent for the money , just need to swap the hoses over so they are the right way round !!
and rear came with IS adapter as well
    Thank you CRC 🙂

Brill, I didn’t need them, but I’ll be fitting them to either mine or my lads bike sooner or later! 😀

To those that have fitted these, how do they perform?

I ordered a set too but they have gone to work and I’m on holiday this week so I won’t get them till next Monday.
Too good a bargain to pass up. They will go on my lad’s 24″ bike then his sister can have the juicy 3s off that to replace the cable discs on hers.
I’m hoping to swap the hoses over without a bleed but having bled the SLXs on my bike it’s no big deal if it does need doing.
I don’t suppose there is any spare mounting hardware in the packaging is there?
Might need a new olive when swapping the hoses? Or is it possible to re-use?

hoses can be swapped easily without a bleeding. Just undo the fixing at the lever end and pull the hose whilst keeping the levers vertical to prevent spilling the fluid. Then just push the hoses back in and re-tighten. No need for olives unless you are adding new hoses. Same probably at the caliper end although one of mine wouldn’t pull out.

Thanks OP ordered some for the commuter bike.

Any cheap suitable 180&160mm 6 bolts rotors out there?

I ordered the Avid BB7 with 180mm rotor, adapter plate and Mavic Crossride wheel for £88!

Bargain (I hope, not here yet).

The old gal is gonna be getting a disc up front after all of these years!

    Hello all

Was this guy unlucky or was this a bit of a problem with these brakes?

Got these brakes for my Cannondale 29er singlespeed small frame to replace the cable brakes that came with the bike, well a £30 it had go be done..

It was one of the easiest jobs to change the levers around with no bleeding need as said above. The rear hose is a bit long and the front just about spot on for my bike.. Only used them once on a night ride so far and we’ll they work as they should am very happy with them..

Yeah I’m toying with replacing my 10 year old deore (m525 or similar) pair with these, at £30 you’ve basically bought two sets of brake pads and some shimano mineral oil, then got the calipers, levers & hoses free. Freaking ace.

Mine arrived today, 1500mm rear hose and need swapping over as EU set up.

    Thanks again OP

hmm i’d think of it more as getting the pads and oil free but whatever. Superstar S2 for these btw. yeah rear comes with adapter not sure what for though.

anyone who’s ridden good brakes (Elixir, Formula, SLX/XT) report on these? are they wooden, do they fade, do they stop?

Can anyone point me in the direction of the adapter I would need to fit the calliper to a fox fork? also where’s the cheapest place to get hoses from. My front one is pretty short and rear is only 1200mm

Been after a set of budget Shimanos for a while and got a pair thanks to this PSA.Certainly don’t look or feel cheap.Feel better than the Avid 3.5 s they replaced on my road/commuter/hill climbing converted MTB franken bike.Really easy to swap over levers and no bleed required.Hoses just the right length too.
    Cheers

    Bizzare. Trying to advertise something
    1. In the wrong forum
    2. On a thread linking to a better, cheaper and brand new version of the same item.

I’ll hazard a guess you won’t sell them here, matey! 🙂

Was just an offer as a lot of the time these PSA are limited stock.

I’m happy for it to be taken off 🙂

Didn’t really think it through as they are just sitting here.

Mods remove my last post please 🙂 (I can’t delete the post).

We have a rule about posting in classifieds threads when things are cheaper if bought new, but do we have a rule about posting in PSA threads when things are more expensive 2nd hand? Crazy.

I just apologised and asked for it removing.

Everyday someone posts a sale item on a info post.

Every time someone asks about a frame someone pops up saying they have one for sale.

I didn’t think and I asked the offending post to be removed.

Mosey, don’t worry about it mate, nobody is actually upset, its just a bit funny. Feels like a Monty Python sketch in response to the rules about the classifieds.

I was looking at these as a spare brake set but read REALLY bad reviews about them, previously baught similar shimano brakes for my hardtail at £25 a side which seem fine to me.

So basically, whats people feedback on these brakes please??

    cookeaa

They went on m missus HT fine the 1200mm hose was OK on a 15″ frame.

The front hose @700mm though was slightly too short, so I,m swapping it for the old but very similar M525 off of my SS as the hose on that is a bit longer and she’ll not actually notice the difference. With the shorter A-C rigid fork on the SS I won’t have any issues.

Swapping the hoses takes minutes, I’ve not bothered to re-bleed them, doubt I will for a while TBH, and the rear came with an ISO adapter which was not needed, but nice to have.

Basically they’re about the same as the old M525 (same pads too I think) which was a pretty reliable simple brake.

I’m running them on a 29er with 160mm rotors. They aren’t super strong which may be down to the rotor size, got back on my other bike with elixir x9’s and 203/185 rotors and nearly went over the bars but they’re strong enough, feel nice to use and have decent modulation. Cant fault em for £30.
