I’m going to fitting a new XTR setup on my niner. It’s a jet carbon with a PF30 B.B.

Currently it creaks badly.. it has a SRAM PF30 to bsa adapter fitted and a regular B.B.

I could order up a rotor PF30 B.B. and sling that in for an extra £40. Or I could lob in the standard bsa xtr bb.

Which is the better approach? The engineer in me wants to fit the PF30 B.B. but I hear much comment of them being creaky. Is the adapter a better solution?

Wheels Manufacturing screw-together adaptor BB – best sealed and doesn’t need a press to remove or install. Hope is more expensive and an inferior design.

I’ve got one of these fitted:

on my road bike and it’s been great (fitted with a bit of loctite bearing retaining compound)

was running a praxis works screw together B.B. which was grand too, but the bearings got spendy…….

Another recommendation for Wheels Mfg screw together bb from me. Fitted one to my Guant Trance and it has been faultless and creak-free for over 1,000 miles.

That’s that resolved then! I’ll get it ordered up.

I know others do screw-together adaptors but what wins it for me is the superior bearing sealing on the WMfg – not some crappy hard plastic cover over the cartridge bearing, but a proper elastomer lip seal

I did the same as andysmiff and it’s be faultless – just got fed up with the short lifespan of the press-fit stuff

I have just fitted the Sram BB30 to BSA adaptor http://www.wiggle.co.uk/sram-pressfit-30-to-bsa-adapter/

We will see how it goes, but there is a list of alternatives building to try next time around. Nice to move away from the RaceFace bottom bracket and backet to a Shimano XT on the other half’s hardtail

Also done the same as andysmiff1 and Aus, my review is the top one, turned a creaky lefty into a racing machine with no creaks
