Orange (Alpine) Sizing.

I’m looking into getting my first full-sus, and unsure on reccomended frame size, and cannot seem to find any info on the Orange website.

Since I’ll be buying second-hand anyway, thought it might be best to ask on here, I’m 6’3″, currently riding a Blue Pig, which I’m fairly sure is an 18″, but unsure whether to size up?

Hmm, I’m 5’11 and find my Alpine (18″) spot on. At 6’3 I’d be thinking about next size up. 🙂

I am 5.11 and ride a 16″, came from a 16″ mmmbop , I tried both 16 and 18 Alpines extensively before buying and preferred the smaller frame.
Best to go and try one I guess…

You’ll need a large being 6ft 3 i have an 18 at 6ft and thats good for me but the 19 feels better.

Im 6ft 4″ and have a 2014 Large (19″), wouldn’t want it to be any smaller.

Isn’t it only the 2014 model in 19″?

All the second-hand ones I can find are either 18″ or 20″.

6ft 3/4 ish here. Mine was 20 inch. I would have struggled pedaling a smaller size

I’ve got a 20″ Alpine which fits great and means I can run a dropper.you could get an 18″ but you’ll need a massive post

2013 onwards are 15 / 17 / 19″. I’d recommend the 19″ for you. I used to size-down with the old frame geometry, but the latest versions feel more nimble and I’m happy enough on the 19″ (I’m 5’11”).

Wow…there’s lots of tall folks about! I’m 5ft 9″ with a 16″ 2014 alpine which I will be selling soon…Very good bikes though.

@stevomcd – interested to hear you say that you no longer ‘size down’ with the Alpine 160.

A quick comparison of the Alpine 160’s ‘Archive’ pages on the Orange website shows that the 2011/12/13 16″ Alpine 160’s ETT is 580mm whereas the 2014 19″ is 620mm – that’s quite a jump in size!

Is it the change in angles that’s made the [larger] bike feel more ‘nimble’?

I’ve got a 2009 17″ Blood which is pretty close in geometry to a 2014 17″ Alpine 160 – I’m 6’1″ but with only a 32″ inside leg so was considering trying a 17″ Apline 160 but now you’ve made me re-consider …

– I generally prefer to go smaller on a bike so I can move it around, but would appreciate any thoughts you have based on your experience riding both the [smaller] older & [larger] recent models!

I’m 5’11” and have the 18″ and it’s right for me, I would go for the bigger size as you’ll struggle on the 18″. All my tall friends have found my bike a bit small
