I'm considering getting a Garmin Dakota, but I'm too tight to pay the huge price for the proper Garmin maps. I've heard that you can get open source maps that work reasonably well. Anyone got any experience of these? Cheers.

There are – however – Garmin maps available from download sites if you don't mind that sort of thing

This is also a great tool if you don't mind spending some time and putting the effort in to get the map of the area you want before your ride.

The dakota is great. I have just got one from Amazon. The image overlay maps are fantastic. The geocaching with the bairns has proved a real hit as well.

Just trying to work out how to do all the .img type vector mapping stuff. Is there an easy guide how to transfer Openstreetmap data to an .img file as I need one for Sweden and can't find a good one that is already made?
