Was reminiscing with a friend earlier about the sports kit we had when younger. Seemed an idea for a thread!

Cricket - I had a Magnum. I wanted to be Sir Viv. It was a LUMP of a bat, but when it connected, boom!

[img] [/img]

Hockey - DFV Blue. Another lump of a thing, like the one on the left.
[img] [/img]
The short taped section was oh so pro!

Rugby - Well, obviously it was Adidas Flankers.
[img] [/img]
Just an iconic boot back then. Now? Oh my they look glorious, but I can't imagine playing in them!

Jnr asked me to play for his 6 a side team a month or so back as they were short. I got out my trusty Asics moulded boots, the boots were last worn in anger 13 years ago but the sole had cracked and disintegrated.

Now I'm scared to check up on my beloved Puma Kings in case they have gone the same way (also last worn 13 years ago!).

I've been scanning a lifetime of slides and negatives recently. A windsurfer with a fluo sail, a fibreglass climbing helmet (and huge nuts), caving in a boiler suit, enormous pink and green plastic mountain boots and straight axes, a mountain bike with semi-slick green 1.95 tyres, a Bell triathlon helmet designed around a pudding basin (and kit coulours similar to the windsurfer sail), some very long and very straight skis, sunglasses machined out of curved perspex, Boréal Firé climbing boots and pink lycra climbing shorts, Selle Italia Turbo saddle, waffle-soled running shoes... .

Which should I post first? The pink lycra shorts are particularly fetching, modeled on the boulding on Sitges beach no less.

Nike Agassi pink lycra liner shorts (assuming not school sports equipment from the olden days - in which case it's pants and vest for the days you left your kit at home).

Yes, used to have one, may still be somewhere in the garage. Fair bit lighter than the Gilbert Match especially in the wet. First boots where the, sadly gone, Cotton Oxfords. Shop is still there.

Still have a Maxply, but not used. My Grays Karachi King from the early 90s is still used at Hockey practice, but crumbs the new stick are so much better.

Used the modern version of the scoop, in my view it is for sentimentalists as modern bat design has made it irrelevant.

I had a twin scoop from my uncle who played for Essex. Was ok with it but better with these:
[IMG] [/IMG]

My great uncle played for WI in the 60s (and threw to the stumps to bag the first tied test against the oz at the gabba) and we have some of his kit in the family.

Wooden framed tennis & squash racquets - and the squash racquets had round heads.
White tennis balls - before yellow became ubiquitous.

Gray Nicolls powerspot for me. Turned many a forward defensive into a boundary.

What were those utterly pointless batting gloves called? White with green pointy rubber bits I think.

Please not the 60l purple beauty here. Still in use, just needs a new pocket zip. Old Codura Karrimors never die - and mine is still uber comfy...

GN Powerspot, just like David Gower, my hero.

Love those Slazenger Alan Knott gloves, but personally I had a pair of Kookaburra Silver (the all black ones like Jack Russell). No rounded cuffs or fancy shit, just a pair of old, classic gloves for a proper gloveman.

Mine weren't this shit though.

https://www.musicjinni.com/O4PEy-IgNBj/Robert-Jack-Russell-s-Cricket-Kit.html

I lost them after playing in a rep game. I made 99 and then got run out with a bowler deflection onto the stumps where I was backing up. Got really pissed and left them at the ground and never saw them again

Never had such a good pair again.

For football. I had a pair of Hi-Tec boots with the big white tongues like big Nev
[img] [/img]

but for gloves I was a Reusch man. Had a pair like Schmeichel's but with blue finger backs. And I had long shorts, bought from a sports shop in Bruges on holiday when everyone else was still in hot pants. I was the bollocks, I'll tell you.

They certainly do, well the top end ones at least. I was working on a project there a while ago.

You must be cough, 40ish Flashy, same bat, stick and boots were the ones to have in our school. I graduated to Puma Kings when I was made Scrum Half

Wouldn't have sniffed at one of these:

And yellow Donnay Agassi rep racket of course..

The ski manufacturer from Aviemore was called Vielhaber.
My brother went to Uni with the Kurt Vielhaber the son of the owner.
Think he once went up to stay at there place in Newtonmore which had an en-suite nuclear bunker apparently!

I played for the same pre county home club as Jack Russell (Stroud CC) till I was 15 as WK. He used to coach me a bit, I liked the way he repaired his own gloves. That reminds me, he put on a match for the new pavilion named after his brother who passed away. As club lads we were allowed in the changing room, Bob Taylor talked to me for ages while Courtney Walsh and Malcom Marshal strode about without a stitch on!

Another popular combination at school. I wanted those ponys, but never allowed. I had the bag though! Some lads had full size head tennis bags.

I had an adidas shell suit . It had a big purple flash across the front and stripes over the shoulders. I though it was shit hot. Which was somewhat ironic given their fire hazard status.

And Barclays with a money box shaped like a bank, with a combination lock safe door on the back - I can't tell you how many times my toy soldiers robbed that bank.
