Oh dear Danny Macaskill – please don't do the Playboy Mansion thing :-(

Obviously, it’s an “iconic” location. That’s sad in itself. I mean, it’s the massive, bland mansion of a 1,000 year old creep who lives there with dozens of glamour models dressed in matching outfits and (we learn) a confused flamingo and some monkeys. It’s more-or-less the same as Michael Jackson’s set-up, just without the child-rape.

I quite like women. I don’t know many women who much like Hugh Hefner. As my fondness for women greatly exceeds my fondness for trials riding videos, I’m out.

A simple case of no such thing as bad publicity imo. It gets chins wagging and in that respect this video is shrewd marketing.

Looked more like advertising for Playboy than the other way around tbh.

At the end of the day there’s lot of people who like to look at naked people of one sex or the other and there’s lots of people who are getting paid to be looked at. Fair play to both Danny and the bunnies as their careers probably aren’t all that long so why not make the most of it.

And I would rather live in a society where woman can make there own choices to wear and behave how the want with in the law with out other people objecting about them being objectified.

We all would but few women grow up want to be the sex tpy of an octogenarian millionaire and when they do we can reasonably question whether it is a free choice or one borne of economic imbalance and gender imbalance. It is not as free as you suggest or else we would see beautiful women shacked up with impoverished octogenarians. Opposing this and finding it distasteful is not to shackle women or not respect them. Yes i respect women I make mags full of them naked all the time and keep them in my mansion dressed as bunnies…not a great argument IMHO for womens rights or respect.

There better be an outtake reel of Danny falling into the pool about 30 times and shouting ‘save me Playboy bunnies!’

Main problems for me are

(1) the riding is incredibly dull, and a bit dubious looking at some of the cuts. Certainly the worst vid Danny’s done.

(2) It’s not even very original location / image wise e.g. see the video for Work It by Nelly.

(3) It’s not the image cycling needs.

Of course they’re free to do what they want but is it not okay to question wether the mainstream potrayal of women like this sets it a some sort of standard that (some) women feel they have to attain to be ‘something’ and that it will reduce (some) men’s opinion of all women as something to leer at and make comments about?

I’ve seen/heard it everyday. Wether it be the appreciative phwoar or derogatory comments when women don’t meet this ‘standard’.

The Page 3 stories/everyday sexism show that this isn’t really that rare.

To me, it looked a little desperate.
There is no doubt that Danny is a very talented rider but there was none of that wow factor like watching him ride up that wire winch the first time, or across that steel fence. The location is the story here and the riding doesn’t do anything for me. Is every tired and jaded organisation going to hire him to ride around, just to increase their profile?
Seen it once, wont be watching it again whereas I am likely to watch his original film, the sequel, the industrial revelations and the toy box one again.
This looks like they had an hour to shoot it.

I think you’ll find we decide every year that Cyclepassion calenders are “a bad thing”. But we need to check again, every year, just to be sure.
