Off road route from Esher to the North Downs?

Hi, a while back someone told me this is possible, obviously crossing the odd road. I imagine I can go to Esher Common, then to Oxshott Woods, then where? anyone have an idea?

Stoke wood, Epsom common then across towards box hill! You will need to plan on a map. It’s quite a long way and easier done with big limps or road!

After Oxshott Heath I take a shimmy via little Heath Lane, Water Lane and Fairmile Lane and then down Tilt Rd, taking the bridleway by the cemetary to head toward Bookham Common via Bookham Rd under the M25, through Bookham Common and then through Bookham via Church Lane, Little Bookham Street and Rectory Lane, this brings you out opposite a Chalkpit Lane, which is a BOAT or a RUPP or whatever, that goes straight up onto Ranmore, although its much more pleasant to peel off this half way up and take the bridleway to the left as the BOAT/RUPP is very loose and stoney for the second half.

TBH I reckon after Oxshot Heath you are on the road as much as off it, alhough the roads are pretty much empty.

We tend to go off road from Cafe Rouge by Esher Rail station – go straight ahead into Littleworth common and then you can wiggle your way down to Esher common – across the A244 and along the path under the pylons and down into Oxshott – there is a nice off road track that takes you past the paddocks here and you eventually end up by Stoke D’abernon station where you can pick up the bridleway over to Downside – across the “1-way” bridleway across the green – left under the M25 and into Bookham Common – past the Isle of Wight and onto the road that takes you into Bookham past the church – left then right by the pub – up past the allotments – straight across the main road, and there is a bridleway at the end of the road which takes you to Polesdon Lacey where you can turn left and go past Tanners Hatch to Ranmore. Difficult to describe really but should be doing it on saturday.

I’ve got a gps route from last summer where we rode from Sutton to Brighton off-road, pretty close to the same thing…if you’d like it?

Will be going out through Hampton Court and the bottom of Esher tomorrow late morning for a pootle to Box Hill and back if anyone’s interested?

London lady, where is the track that takes you to the station, I only know the footpath that crosses the railway lines, is there another? Apart from that I go pretty much the same way from Rouge to Ranmore.

Thats the footpath that goes across the golf course – dont want to upset the golfers. We usually ride along the river to hampton court and ride on the road to cafe rouge – its not far.

How far is this please? I live in Molesey and we haven’t even considered riding it as it looked like too much road work.

we did London_lady’s route yesterday and then back via Leatherhead and a extended play in Oxshot Woods/Esher Common = 26.5 miles. we didnt go further due to the fact it was my first ride in ages and my ar$e hurt 🙂

I felt a little odd doing the Footpath, and it would be nice to find alternative’s for.
