post edits take an age to process after you click submit. Much longer than submitting the first time.

If I edit a post and press submit the page just hangs with the spinning wheel showing it is trying to load. Eventually I just hit the x on the browser to stop the process, refresh the start side and open the thread and the edited post will be there in all its’ glory!

The side bar cookie thing is back. It is somewhat distracting.

I’m getting the following message when I attempt to log in on my phone (Android phone running Opera):

You have exceeded the login limit. Please wait a few minutes and try again.

I waited about 20 minutes, tried again and got the same message.

I haven’t attempted to log in on any other systems today. I’m writing this on my work PC, which has stayed reliably logged in for months.

Are we supposed to see adverts if we’re paying for a subscription? Is it a setting.

How about – Threads being closed but no reason given as to why.

So if things are a bit heated, or its an emotive subject, how about saying why you’ve decided to close it.

I’ve been getting this for a couple of weeks as well. Emailed Mark about it a week ago and he said he’d look into it, so I presume it’s on the list ?‍♂️

I have done so – using postimages.org and selecting the Hotlinks for forums code

    Genuine question.

What has the update actually fixed?

All the previous issues still present themselves, with bonus extras for good measure

Randomly doesn’t recognise my password, so I can’t log in. Currently I’m on my phone (iPhone 13 running latest IOS), but no luck on my iPad (Air 4 latest IOS). Yesterday it was the other way round!

I had that all day yesterday, changed password 4 times, still got the “Password is incorrect” message. I only managed to log in about 30 minutes ago.

It was a migration from one environment to another so didn’t fix anything.  The fixing was to come after the migration but it looks like there has been a significant amount of fallout from the migration.

    Another problem;

When I get a you have been mentioned on Singletrackworld email, the contents are blank. Normally there would be a link to the post. This means I’m randomly opening several threads trying to work out where and when someone might have been expecting a reply. If that’s you, and I haven’t got back to you, my apologies

Getting spammed with adverts at the moment. Started a couple of hours ago while I was logged in. I’ve tried logging out and back in again but no difference.

It appears my membership has expired and as I’ve changed banks the card on file didn’t work. By crikey, the user experience for free members is dire, isn’t it?

The Like button works but doesn’t turn green, so there’s no way of telling whether you’ve Liked a post or not.  Clicking a second time Unlikes again.

I’m also getting the “Password is incorrect. Please try again.” thing. Saturday (27th) and Sunday (28th) in the morning before 7am

Also getting the v. slow update when editing a post

Previously reported and not fixed : Forum Index when logged out is still hours behind the posts when logged in, “Freshness 8 hours ago by Paul” becomes “Peter…Posted 1 hour ago”

The password glitch is obviously a priority job. I’m putting that high on the list for Monday with Anthony.

I’m also aware of the blank emails from mention notifications.

    Thanks for the reports.

@Mark Password problem here required a machine restart to make it go away. Mac OS 14.5, Firefox browser 128.0.3, 1 password extension in use. (Safari was also forbidding login too).

Whenever I post a comment on any of the forum threads and later refresh the page to read any further comments, it automatically scrolls back up the page to the last comment I posted. It’s doing this on both my work laptop running Edge for Business Version 126.0.2592.87 and also Chrome Version 127.0.6533.64 on Android 13.

It gets quite frustrating, especially when trying to keep track of comments on threads like the Olympic Mountain Biking one.

Hasn’t it always done that?  When posting it’ll redirect to domain/page/pagenumber/#post-number.  You’re refreshing the anchor to your own post.  Edit the URL.

Another comments about ads – I get it when I first come to the site from another page. If I click on ‘my account’ icon it takes me there, reassuring me that I have logged in, and coming back to main page all ads are gone.

Been like this for a few days now.

@keefezza well I for one will not be buying ANY of your items, though this is largely because of the advert on the bottom of the page blocking my link to the classifieds.
is this an issue for anyone else?

I use the menu button on top left of the screen to get to classifieds. Never had an issue getting there fortunately.

I don’t remember it doing it on every refresh, only the first until recently. A bit of a pain having to edit the url though, everytime you post a comment on a thread.

Apparently mine is on hold saying payment hasn’t gone through, have I changed card details, yet I’m on direct debit and it’s showing paid both here and at my bank, and says my subscription is active here.

Though I still get loads of STW ads here. Only stuff for STW, but the pop up videos on every page is annoying.

I’ve been using postimage.org to post photos. It’s a bit long-winded but works.

I don’t know if this has been posted yet and/or is specific to my own platform/software – ancient MBP running Safari 15.6.1 – but if I edit a post, once I’ve hit submit, the page just hangs and becomes unresponsive. The actual edit works fine, but I have to reload the forum to see it.

Using Chrome – Version 127.0.6533.72 (Official Build) (x86_64) – same computer and… the same thing happens.

Edit: I see it’s been posted already, but an issue for me also.

Photos is on the priority list. That’s in Andy’s todo list – He works Wednesday – Friday so he’ll be working on that tomorrow.

    tech bit:

It’s related to the fact the image upload software (Plugin) needs to use a directory on the VIP server that is not writeable in the VIP configuration setup (VIP can’t just make it writeable). This directory is used as a very temporary store of the image before it is then transferred over to our paid for AWS (Amazon) image storage CDN. Essentially there’s an incompatibility between the software and the VIP server that needs us to come up with a workaround. Working with the VIP engineers means we have a way forward, it just needs time to create the new fix.

We need to use a separate store for your images as otherwise they will all end up in our main media library, which is a just a great big melting pot of all images uploaded by editorial. Having all your images mixed in would bloat it and make it harder for us to search and use our own library of images that we have the rights to use in creating content.

Anyway, it’s high on the list and I’ll have more to update on that later this week after Andy has worked on it.

The post edit delay bug is also on the list now and will hopefully be tackled this week.

Emails: Some subscribers have been getting emails saying there’s a problem with their subscription. either payment method needs updating or it’s expired when clearly neither has happened. We are aware of this and it’s a high priority to fix. If you get one and you are sure everything is fine you can ignore it or feel free to contact Zoe subs@ if you want her to double check it for you. Again, these emails are a ‘this week’ job.

Today’s victory: We found the source of the rogue emails being sent out to subscribers about their subscription status. They were coming from our pre-production test site. Sneaky one that. But we caught it. Apologies for anyone with a confusing email about your membership.

It’s always done this and it’s not a bug just the way the world works. If you want to scroll a user to a particular post, say one they just made, the most recent or one that has come up in a search, then you need a anchor link on the URL (the #(number) part). If you refresh a page with that then your obviously going to be scrolled as the browser does not and cannot know the difference between a request that should scroll and one that shouldn’t.
