Stevie Nicks has got to be up there for me.
Who else?
Grace slick and Poison Ivy. Probably Janis Joplin I expect, don't know much about her tho.
Corin Tucker of Sleater Kinney has to be worth a mention from the modern era. Obviously not an icon like Janis or Joan Jett etc, but few if any female rock bands have ever put out anything like The Woods - sadly SK's final album by the looks of it.
Debbie Harry
Courtney Love
Shirley Manson
Polly Jean Harvey
PJH is brilliant, what about Melissa Auf Der Maur?
CG all the way.
Ahhh, Melissa Auf der Maur...just beautiful.
I remember watching Hole at Reading 1995 when she'd just taken over bass duties. Bought her first solo album, that was pretty good.
If you're talkin extreme Rock Chick, Wendy O'williams

Genesis P-Orridge? 😉
Nice to see a mention for Sleater Kinney's Corin Tucker. By rights they should have been huge, but then they probably wouldn't have wanted that anyway.
Peaches was something of an ultimate rock chick, but I lost interest after the first two (brilliant) albums.
I just can't keep up with their ever changing line-ups, but the two women on bass and rhythm guitar duty with Nashville Pussy cicrca 'Leth them eat pussy' were a force of nature!
nena and her 99 red balloons and hairy arm pits did it for me.
when she appeared on TOTP I had many a happy memory w@nk thereafter.
Hast du etwas Zeit für mich
Dann singe ich ein Lied für dich
Von 99 Luftballons
Auf ihrem Weg zum Horizont
Denkst du vielleicht g'rad an mich
Dann singe ich ein Lied für dich
Von 99 Luftballons
Und dass so was von so was kommt
Von 99 Luftballons.........
augh! not all over the keyboard mudsux!
Suzi Quatro surely?
Can't choose between the two Kims - Deal & Gordon.
Divine...gord rest 'er soul.......
his soul?
Not hardcore rock, but hayley williams from paramore.
I liked these sisters back in the day
Axl Rose?
can't believe I've contributed to this thread..........
Shirley Manson
Morgan Lander from Kittie
'Masha' from Exilia
Pat Benatar
What about Justine Frischmann from Elastica?
I liked these sisters back in the dayReally? I suppose in their time, they might have been something, but don't really compare to proper Rock Chicks of nowadays
Lauren Laverne from Kenicke floated my boat a few years ago.

I'll nominate Tarja Turunen ex of Nightwish, Simone Simons of Epica and Angela Gossow of Arch Enemy.Oh, and Isobel Campbell. My word...
Chrissie Hynde surely....
CG all the way.
You'd better believe it sunshine. 😀
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Yes, I believe it is what she is famous for! The force behind her popularity
😛
Seems the word rock is not the same as it once was.. But for me there's a few names to make the grey cells work:
Lee Aaron
Susie Hatton
Taime Cain
I am sure phantom blue and femme fetale had a girl I recall!
Stevie nicks was gorgeous.
Cristina Scabbia from Lacuna Coil
Hmm, I wonder what angle they're going for in the marketing?
The "Katy Perry" technique perchance?

Except LC have been around a damn site longer than Ms.Perry.
Would have to go with DS's choices, good taste that man.
Juliette Lewis is just trying far too hard to be Mick Jagger
@SpaceMonkey ...i own that 'born to be sold' t-shirt, got is off her after a Leeds Uni gig
That's awesome ... I bet you wish you'd come away with more than just a t-shirt though?
i used to work security at Leeds Uni Refectory back in those days and on that day i was on the front of stage by that monitor, she wasn't very well trimmed !!
she wasn't very well trimmed !!
Nice.
Has anyone mentioned Beth Ditto?
or Susanna Hoffs ...
Suzi Quatro was my hero;
Sounds sort of ordinary now, but I wasn't allowed to listen to 'pop', even the Beatles. My Mam was a musician and thought it was all trash. I can still hear her describing Led Zep as "like a load of cats'
joan jett..
Have Lacuna Coil not been on the go since the early 90s? That must make Ms Scabbia about mid 30s by now, unless she was a really early developer. I have to say, she's looking good!
Lacuna Coil are rubbish though.
*saves thread to favourites*
Ritzy Bryan of Joy Formidable. She rocks
Juliana Hatfield
Rod Stewart?
What a great thread.
2 Kims - Deal & Gordon
And Hilma Nikolaisen, the bass player from Sereena Maneesh ...6' tall, beautiful, plays bass and really has got the moves!
Gaye Advert
Chrissie Hynde, by a mile. The sound of her voice excites me greatly.
Joan Jett
Blondie
Chrissie Hynde
Bjork
Rock is based on blues, hence [url=
Rosetta Tharp.
Without her rocking, none of the above could have been.
Iggy Pop?
Taylor Momsen from The pretty reckless

GlitterGary, showing, as usual, zero interest in music. Butt out, troll.
The Breeders were excellent, part of the Boston indy scene. Connections with Belly and The Throwing Muses. Kristin Hersh, Kim and Kelly Deal, Tanya Donelly; seen all of them at one time or another.
Auf Der Maur I would include, and all of the Bangles, fabulous band live, Suzanna Hoffs is stunning, and the harmonies outstanding.
I would also include the beautiful Juanita Stein, singer with Howling Bells. Oh, Lordy...
