Grace slick and Poison Ivy. Probably Janis Joplin I expect, don't know much about her tho.

Corin Tucker of Sleater Kinney has to be worth a mention from the modern era. Obviously not an icon like Janis or Joan Jett etc, but few if any female rock bands have ever put out anything like The Woods - sadly SK's final album by the looks of it.

Ahhh, Melissa Auf der Maur...just beautiful.

I remember watching Hole at Reading 1995 when she'd just taken over bass duties. Bought her first solo album, that was pretty good.

Also, Carah Faye, ex-Shiny Toy Guns

Both great singers.

Nice to see a mention for Sleater Kinney's Corin Tucker. By rights they should have been huge, but then they probably wouldn't have wanted that anyway.

Peaches was something of an ultimate rock chick, but I lost interest after the first two (brilliant) albums.

I just can't keep up with their ever changing line-ups, but the two women on bass and rhythm guitar duty with Nashville Pussy cicrca 'Leth them eat pussy' were a force of nature!

Auf ihrem Weg zum Horizont
Denkst du vielleicht g'rad an mich
Dann singe ich ein Lied für dich
Von 99 Luftballons
Und dass so was von so was kommt

Von 99 Luftballons.........

Seems the word rock is not the same as it once was.. But for me there's a few names to make the grey cells work:

Lee Aaron
Susie Hatton
Taime Cain

I am sure phantom blue and femme fetale had a girl I recall!

Stevie nicks was gorgeous.

Hmm, I wonder what angle they're going for in the marketing?
The "Katy Perry" technique perchance?

Suzi Quatro was my hero;

Sounds sort of ordinary now, but I wasn't allowed to listen to 'pop', even the Beatles. My Mam was a musician and thought it was all trash. I can still hear her describing Led Zep as "like a load of cats'

Have Lacuna Coil not been on the go since the early 90s? That must make Ms Scabbia about mid 30s by now, unless she was a really early developer. I have to say, she's looking good!

GlitterGary, showing, as usual, zero interest in music. Butt out, troll.
The Breeders were excellent, part of the Boston indy scene. Connections with Belly and The Throwing Muses. Kristin Hersh, Kim and Kelly Deal, Tanya Donelly; seen all of them at one time or another.
Auf Der Maur I would include, and all of the Bangles, fabulous band live, Suzanna Hoffs is stunning, and the harmonies outstanding.
I would also include the beautiful Juanita Stein, singer with Howling Bells. Oh, Lordy...
