Noisy tappett, cheap fix?

I’ve got this cheap car to run round in. £400 2.0l Vauxhall Omega.
Amongst its many faults it has a noisy tappet. I don’t really care about it TBH. If the engine goes I’ll scrap it, but if it doesn’t I’ll sell it on.
If I could fix it for cheap then I’ll stand a chance of making a profit when I sell it on, but it’s gotta be a CHEAP or FREE fix!
Any ideas?

Dunno the engine in that, but if it has hydraulic lifters just new oil could help a lot, could try really cheap oil with a pint of diesel in it for a 100 miles and then pop some decent stuff in.. Or ear plugs or maybe a cheap stereo.

Yeah. My feelings entirely.
I was toying with an oil change to be fair, just putting some nice thick oil in, as it’s quiter when cold.

All cars, even bangers deserve a little fresh oil. Its the least you could do for it… but just stick with the right grade in my opinion.

That said Castrol used to do an oil for high mileage engines, not sure what the difference is, but maybe it doesn’t thin quite as much once warm.

You can get an oil additive that is supposed to help combat this. No idea if its just snake oil though.
Might be worth slinging some engine flush and then doing an oil change. Usually they get noisy as the oil holes in them can get gunked up.
If that doesnt work then its more work in taking them out and soaking them in solvent to try and shift the deposits.

No sweat, not sure I was too clear what I was on about anyhow!

If you do an oil change, i’ve found using a proper flushing oil to give better results with removing crud than the can of additive you put in for a few mins. Although, on an old high-mileage car this might remove too much crud & it starts burning oil!

I might chic some diesel in with the current oil then change it then. Sounds like a plan!

Sometimes removing the crud is detremental as it is what is holding the whole thing together 😆

Agreed, but I reckon the engine is basically sound. Especially after I fixed the oil leak by tightening the very loose oil filter!

Pigface does have a point, but its more the petrol addative type stuff, I wrecked an old motor with redex once…

But the pint of diesel in the oil should only help clear the oilways rather than try and decoke the engine.

Make sure there is room for a pint without overfilling it!

I wouldn’t flush it. I would drain it,put new filter on along with oil. Also fuel and air filter and wait for the day when it dies.
