My rear hub keeps working loose.
Took it to my LBS first time (I don’t have any cone spanners) went loose again yesterday. I have only had the bike a month or so and I don’t get out as much as I would like, so I don’t think this should happen.
I am going to get the necessary tools to do the work myself, any advice on getting them to keep tight. oh it’s the XT on the meta 5.5.2 Cheers

Oh, I have lots of experience with cup and cone bearings, in fact only a couple of weeks ago I had to buy a new wheel after “maintaining” my old wheel. I will offer no advice apart from
    1. Don’t rush, at all.
    2. If you ever replace the ball bearings spend some money and don’t just get a bag of whatever they have in the shop (they were sh1t, lost coating in no time and looked like blobs of silver playdough).

No, they always seem to work loose on mine but they are 3 years old.

Look for some decent instructions, probably some on parktools. You’ll need to remove the casette I think, to do it properly. The art is to get it tight, then tighten the lock ring so it still all moves. The WR can add extra pressure tightening it still.

Is it just the nuts working loose? I just finger tighten them/check them if they are loose before a ride. I take my wheels off anyway to get the bike in a car. As long as ther eisn’t any play in the wheel I haven’t found it to be a problem.
