Mud Guards for Croix De Fer

I can’t belive I am asking this in August, but having just acquired a lovely new Cyclo Cross bike I have found that my cunning plan of transferring an old set of short sks race blades has failed, as somehow they don’t fit either the frame nor the size of tyre.

Has anyone out there fitted a set of mud guards to a Genesis Croix De Fer (or similar)as I don’t want to spend more money only to find the same problem ?? 😕

I bought SKS chromo mudguards for my CdF but let EBC faff with fitting them 😉 (it was a B2W build). I think they were the 45 mm chromoplastic mudguards, which *just* fit the supplied speed king tyres. It was a commuter so the speed kings were quickly changed for slicks.

They did a good job and bent the mudguard stays arond the calipers rather than space them out as in the link.

Does depend on what tyres you’re going to run. On a cx bike I changed to 28mm slicks for road use I found the Bontrager NCS guards really good, very easy to fit and adjust (I have zero patience…) + work fine with discs.

I’ve stuck 45mm SKS Chromoplastic guards on my Boardman CX, I bent the stay round the front caliper and they clear the 35mm standard tyres enough to cope with a bit of mud (I’ve only been down a couple of soft bridleways so far, not any proper mudfests!).

Thanks everyone – I’m probably going to keep the tyres as supplied (Conti’s). They seem to roll reasonably well and got me to the top of New Pale at Delamere without any slippage (for those that don’t know it, it’s a steep path covered in grit).

Does anyone know where I can get the bolt/adapter required to fit around the caliper ?? Is this a bog standard part??
