I’ve got a Scott roadie that gets ridden way more than my MTB at the moment.

Pretty much everywhere I’ve lived you can get out onto quiet roads somewhere.

I love the Tour on the telly, perhaps I’d enjoy riding in France or Spain on closed roads but over here.. nah.. even a pootle down a canal towpath seems more attractive to me than a ride up some windswept ring road with trucks and cars.

Like others have said, find some decent country lanes, then you’ll see what it’s all about. Though the Pyrenean sportive I did last weekend on closed roads on the Spain/France border was indeed excellent 🙂

The Quebrantahuesos, 205km on mainly closed roads – 30km climbs, 40km descents, great fun and easily as good as (off-road) mountain biking. Highly recommended!

Guilty here Airbourne ti for winter. Planet x team carbon summer. Not used MTB hardly due to pernament winter being in place.

Got a cheap fixie from the States here for commuting. I miss the fat tyres to alleviate the awful state of the roads round here, but it is the way to go.

Having said that, going back to wide bars/ fat tyres/ lower saddle at weekends is really odd, and takes me a while to adjust to.

I ride road the majority of the time. The other day I needed a ride but it was blowing like mad – never nice on the road. Then eureka the mountain bike. So out of the door and into the woods for hours of wind free riding.
But isn’t this thread a bit like all the ‘What 4X4’ when we have a days worth of snow?
Mountainbikes for me are summer evenings and cold, wet, dark winter nights.

I’ve got a couple (Specialized Roubaix and a Boardman Team Carbon). Ride them more than the mountain bikes at the moment as I’m working on getting some fitness back.

I’ve got a CX and a roadie, plus two MTBs. The roadie is a new acquisition and I went Ti so hopefully I won’t need a new bike for a very long time. I’m impressed so far.

This is what road bikes are for me! For an all day ride I’d much rather be on my mtb or bmx, can’t stand being on the road bike for more than an hour ish.

Yes, another one – Trek Madone 5.2 carbon. Bought it three years ago and use it more than my mountain now. Get’s me loads fitter, easier to just get and out and ride and a surprising benefit is that because I’ve got used to climbing with road gears when I do get on my mountain bike I’m suddenly killing the climbs that previously killed me. And speed is great…
