“Suitable for regular MTB’s, Fatbikes, Singlespeed and Supercross Bikes (disc/high volume 40mm plus tyres)”

Does that mean you ain’t allowed on a canti cx bike even if you can squeeze 40mm tyres in?

No, it means that you can ride any off road capable bike so long as the tyres are at least 40mm wide.
There’ll be a slatted bridge to the start and if your skinny tyres slip through between the slats you’ll be de-robed and thrown to the midges.

    I have booked.
But I haven’t booked campsite yet.
    What campsite are people booking?
    Should you book site early?
    Thanks

There is a campsite in the village but I can’t remember the details*. Back in the old days I normally booked a few weeks in advance and that was ok even when it was a massive popular event. It is the pubs b and bs and yha that books up fast. Camping in September at Kielder can be a bit damp in September.

*you’ll probably be able to find it on google or the Kielder website.

    Campsite here
Discount organised for racers/riders (seismic are subsidising it). Steve’s the fella.

personally, and given the huge popularity of CX in the north East (300 competitors every weekend across all age groups at CXNE, 100+ at vets level) you’re missing a massive trick not inviting CX bikes.

I did 100km of the old K100 before getting thrown out on missing time checks, and I think I’d like to do this but not this year.

On 5th September I shall be failing to finish SSUK.

I wish you well though and hope it returns and doesn’t clash next year.

    Stick me down for a 2016 pre-entry.

What were the time limits on the old K100?

7.5 hours at 56 miles I think. And then a few miles back to base. I’d done a bit over 60 miles by the GPS.

I’m not fast. Someone did the full hundred before I got back.

That said I reckon I could have completed the full distance if I’d had lights with me.

No, it means that you can ride any off road capable bike so long as the tyres are at least 40mm wide.

your rules are a little confusing then?

Monster Cross Bikes (fitted with front/rear discs and with a minimum tyre width of 40c)

I’m in for this, seems like a nice event.

Whats the time limit/sag wagon pace?

Can’t most CX bikes fit 40mm tyres anyway? There is plent of clearance on mine to get another few mm in.

I’m still trying to work out if I’m free to enter but If I do I think it would be a difficult choice as to which bike. For the 101km I think my body could take the beating of a CX bike but over 100 miles I don’t know.

This from having done a 100km ride up there this year already and done the cross border/newcastleton ride on a cx bikes as well as a ful suss. There is a lot of gravel but it isn’t small gravel it is really quite rough. MY arms and back were as tired as my legs on the old K100 course.

    Confusing rules?
An off-road worthy bike with tyres at least 40mm is about as simple as it gets. I said disc equipped CX may be ideal, but discs aren’t required.
There are other events aimed at CX bikes. We may review it in future, but the course is best suited to fatter tyres.
Not really envisaging cut off this year. There’ll be ‘lantern rouge’ riders employed to ride at the back, and we’ll see

Which is not what your website says, hence confusing. This is STW after all.

Does anyone know the route for this 101km ride, it says on the website that it is one loop crossing the border. I have done a loop from kielder onto the lonesome pine trail, then onto the bloody bush trail and across to newcastleton. Finally I come back over the border and finish of the lonesome pine trail and drop down into kielder. This loop is about 56-60km. So does anyone know where the other 40km may be?

There’s easily another 40km on the other side of the road. All the red and blue trails there for a start off. The old K100 was 100 miles remember and it wasn’t all fire road despite what people said.

Entered this morning, looking forward to it, don’t think I would have jumped right in to the 101 miles, so this year the km option seems ideal.

It is still a long way though 😕

I know where the rest is – fair amount of stuff very few will have ridden and some new stuff too.
The Whinlatter race was 50+Km the first year and that forest is much smaller. The potential to further develop the trail network in Kielder is huge. It’s a lovely part of the country, with very friendly locals and is pretty accessible for many.
Can we move this discussion over here – Kielder 101 as it’s not really a relaunch of the original Kielder 100.
    Thanks

thv3 – we are thinking ahead to next year already and discussing 101km option and pairs/trios for those not sure about the full ‘tun+1‘
Ideas welcomed on the other thread or on seismic-events FB and twitter gubbins.
