Thinking smooth carparks on the odd evening when quiet. Skate park of course but I am not that good at tricks and stuff although I can pump ramps ok. Just to ride it around for a bit.Haven't ridden one for 15 years. Came back to me straight away on the little street ride i've just done.Hopefully it should help my snowboarding too. 😆
R.A.D.
what did you get? One of these modern generically shaped decks or a nice old shaped one?
Enjoy
tbh it's not a serious one. This is what I've got. Cheap and chearful. Heavy but trucks, wheels and bearings are okish.Deck is a nice shape and quite flat which is what I like.Just want something to thrash and improve/ maintain my carving skills.

good idea.
You got me looking at old skateboarding stuff, I love the old graphics. Stickers were important, you need some stickers More stickers = ollie higher 🙂
cool. 😀
You've got me thinking now. I've got one of these, in blue, from late 80s in my Mum's garage. Indy trucks, Santa Cruz wheels. I may go and bring it home to embarrass my lad 🙂

Got me thinking too, first proper deck was a Zorlac Rob Mertz with a shark jumping out of a grave on it... super Gnarly.
Still got a modern (good!) skateboard that you can flip easily etc somewhere.
But also have a longboard with massive indy trucks on it stowed at my parents.

Always fancied a longboard - wife says I should grow up and act my age!!
If I can find it, it's for sale...
You'll be doing kick flip handrails in no time...
Baron your wife should look at Tony Hawk he's an OAP and he's landed a 720 and made a few quid. I had a board with a skeleton wearing a cape eating a brain.
i want a longboard too, and a mountain board.
SMA Natas Kaupas (666). Best board I ever had.
catflees - I'm not going to push my luck. She only just tolerates a garage full of bikes.
Depressing to realise I'm the same age as Tony Hawk and know I will never, ever land a 720 anywhere other than on the xbox.
nice. just been outside on mine. I don't snowbaord that often and it always takes me a while to get into the groove. Hopefully this will help me.
Always quite like the Powell peralta board designs but they were heavy and de-lammed like a ****. I loved the mike vallely 'elephant' board.
I had a Rob Roskopp deck with Independant 169 trucks and OJ 2 wheels. I want one again. My wife tells me to act my age.
I know someone that has started collecting nos decks. he owns about 7 decks totalling around £4000! He has a s.stix chris miller,a vision gator, new deal ed templeton and others i cant remember.
argh. i want to go for a roll now! might see if he fancies going out one night. i`m 38 soon and he is around 34.
I had a Schmitt Stix Chris Miller Mini with Gullwing phoenix trucks and Deathbox Dodo wheels.
mega!
You boys are youngsters!!!!!!!!!!
I had a Hobie Flex circa 1978 then progressed thru Z Flex's, Alva's, Sims Superlights (the lolly stick one)with original Red Kryps, Chaput Chapstik - one of the first wide decks!, Powerflex with Powerflex 9's, finally Benjyboard John Sablosky signature with Lime Kryps.
Gave up for a long while but succumbed about 23 years ago to a Brand X Riot Stik with Slimeballs which is still in the garage.
I really fancy an old school build though - maybe something like a Dogtown Jim Muir, Dressen or a Powell.
Used to skate at Rolling Thunder, Meanwhile, Watergate, Knebworth, Stevenage, Brighton Barn and Cage, Harrow, South Bank and even the original Skate City by HMS Belfast.
Gone all weepy eyed now!
I had a Schmitt Stix Jon Fabriquer that my Dad bought me for Christmas as a kid, problem was I liked the idea of skateboard but none of my mates skated and so it just became something I aspired to do. Never sold it but dunno where it ended up.
I now have a nice longboard inspired by finding the Lush Longboards site a while back, hand made (again by my Dad) deck with striped veneer and some huge Randall R180s. problem is at 33 I'm feeling as though I'll look like a tit riding it round the local streets!
Reckon I need to bide my time for my kids to get a bit older then use them as my excuse.
for all you misty-eyed sentimental skaters... (how're your ankles holding up by the way?) this amazing book should be on your christmas present list..
I had one of those Benjyboard John Sablosky decks, with tracker fulltracks and excellerator wheels which were amazing.
G&S bowlrider before that
When I was about 6 or so, my mum made me a skateboard out of a bit of plywood and some casters. It wasn't very good, but she meant well, bless her. 😀
Fortunately it wasn't ever fast enough for me to end up doing stupid damage to myself like some of my mates did (fractured skulls, smashed out teeth, various broken bones etc).
The only people I know who ever got 'into' skateboarding are now permanently damaged....
I tried making my own rollerskates out of baseball boots, plywood, and old skateboards. It didn't end well to be honest.
Mind you my longest lasting injury was on a wakeboard, and that was landing on water. 15 years ago and you can still see the aftermath.
I wouldn't say I'm permenently damaged and skated for years.
Everyone's ankles pop and crack with every step though, right?
Sweepy - i used to ride with the BenjyBoard guys Marc Sinclair and Jeremy Henderson back in the day.
My first skateboard was a bit of wood with half a rollerskate nailed to each end. Anyone remember the Surf Flyer?
You need a car park, find a nice curb and a take a candle to it!
My first board was a Santa Cruz Jeff Kendall...

but Chris Miller & Steve Claar had the best decks to ride...
