8 pages. All over what a car journalist says.

(I know this is the start of the ninth page. Sorry.)

He was only saying what his mate the PM thinks so maybe he will get a nighthood soon. 😆

I was watching the One show. I even posted up a comment on FB that he said in reference to the strikers. He said it in his typical tongue-in-cheek style then you get the rabid media etc kicking off. Yes it was a bit close to the bone (a la Mexicans being lazy) but come on.

I just turned on the TV to see this being debated on BBC Breakfast. Before I could turn it off, the words, “we pay his salary” were actually said.

We are in the midst of socio-economic turmoil, yet instead of people sitting down to iron this out and come up with a plan to turn it all around, they are on TV trying to score cheap shots and column inches, “Me, me, me”.

    The mind boggles.

Lots of references to clarkson being an idiot etc.. in all of this, but it seems that he is the cleverest one, and the one who has won.

Apparently the BBC have had over 23,000 complaints

It’s things like that that make me fear for our future as a functioning democracy

Go and find something worthwhile to complain about! In fact, here’s a revolutionary concept – why not just stop complaining you sad, empty-headed half- wits

neal, i ask because of your earlier refusal to engage in discussion with TJ based on his previous behaviour and erm.. wondered if er.. it might be a erm… regional thing. Just wondering

I thought I explained it pretty clearly.

That I’m not willing to spend my time flogging a dead horse with someone who seems not to mind spending most of their time telling people on the Internet they are wrong.

I don’t know where TJ is from as it goes.

I’m what most people would consider as a “Northerner”

So he gets thousands of complaints yet Jordans tv shows get how many by comparison?

I saw the clip posted in this thread and thought it was woefully misjudged. Then, this morning, I saw the FULL clip on BBC’s breakfast time telly. I wonder how many of the complainers here AND direct to the beeb have seen the full clip?

As it turns out, there’s nothing to see here.

I already said that last night, klumpy. Amazing, such a fuss about nothing. A veritable media storm about a quote taken out of context. Couldn’t have happened to a nicer arrogant twonk.

klumpy this is what I said. He was being tongue-in-cheek.

Why can’t we focus on the Union leaders who complained, you know. The ones on 5 figure salaries. Maybe a bit of focus on them would make them shut up abit.

yes rather than the focus on the multi millionaire who said about gilt edged pensions whilst he had to work for a living …another great insight Hora

are you complaining because they have said and done something you disagree with in a democracy? oh the irony

I’m not complaining though, am I? I’m ranting, insulting people and issuing diktats!

A much more worthwhile and fulfilling activity than firing off a pointless, huffy email to the BBC because some champagne socialist told me too 😀

It seems as though lowly-paid Union members are feeding the fatcats of their unions…. Buyyaaar!

Is this still going on? I’m a lefty, liberal, eco, cyclist striker and I’d not complain about what he said.

wow mark union subs pays for union staff – truly a revelation 🙄 – more interestingly why is the tax payers allianace making statements about something not related to taxpayers? it is like they are right wing and making cheap points- remind you of anyone?

what are you calling the multi millionaire clarkson if those on 100k pa are fat cats by the way? is he not paid by the BBC via the licence fee “tax” surely it would make more sense for the taxpayers alliance to comment on that ?
What do we pay clarkson then Hora – do you know or care?

I don’t even think Clarkson has thought through the logistics of what he’s proposing. B-

How much money do you think Clarkson brings into the Beeb?

Hes not like the likes of Ross is he. Ross didn’t sell DVD’s, sell his shows worldwide, franchising etc etc.

So who brings in millions to the Beeb?

Bedder 6 (TopGear) – BBC owns 50%. Clarkson 30%. Last years turnover was £21m. Would Bedder/TG make £21m if JC didn’t front/be involved with the show? Hes key to its global brand and success.

How much did W’oss bring in ontop of his salary? Its not all pressing the loud pedal either, alot of work, travelling and injuries to make the show.

Without JC’s involvement TG would just be a car programme not watched by millions (but informative- I liked it, preferred then if I’m honest) but with his involvement its been very lucrative for the taxpayer.

Here is the transcript from the BBC website (the last line puts in into perspective):

The complaints came after an exchange, on Wednesday, in which Clarkson presented two views when asked about that day’s strike over pensions by public sector workers:

“I think they (the strikes) have been fantastic. Absolutely. London today has just been empty. Everybody stayed at home, you can whizz about, restaurants are empty,” he said.
“It’s also like being back in the 70s. It makes me feel at home somehow,” said the Top Gear presenter, before adding: “But we have to balance this though, because this is the BBC” and went on: “Frankly, I’d have them all shot. I would take them outside and execute them in front of their families. I mean, how dare they go on strike when they have these gilt-edged pensions that are going to be guaranteed while the rest of us have to work for a living?”

When the presenters pointed out that these were Clarkson’s personal views, he said: “They’re not. I’ve just given two views for you.”

It seems: People can’t read, people can’t listen.

    They prefer to be OUTRAGED!!!

    And with that, I’m out.

A lot of fuss about a bit of a non story, could it be that callmedave’s bezzie mate has come up with a double WIN, diverting both attention and creating public dislike of the strikers while at the same time creating some pre christmas promo for his DVD/book e.t.c 😉

Either way the increasing mass public outrage that seems to be driven in part by social media networks for specfic transgressions appears to be on the increase two this week with Tram racist and clarkson, where is it all going to end 😕 And is this increase in technology based media reducing peoples ability to reason issues/happenings out as a result of the percieved disconnection that the internet maybe imparting.

Just a though or two, going to go and take my tin foil hat off and do some work now 😉

Doesn’t Top Gear generate over £50m for the beeb each year?

Not sure what his salary is but I’m guessing its around the £1m mark.

Not a bad little money spinner for the beeb then?

9 pages and all it took to kill the thread was a transcript of what was actually said.

I for one am disappointed, this thread has been tremedous entertainment.

    Oh, and +1,000,000 for this:

I think the thing that you notice most on this thread, is that so many of the people who don’t find something, or someone “funny” think that they are somehow superior…

In addition to taking things out of context in the media. Too many people on here seem to read a headline and the opening paragraph then skip the rest of events, history and knowledge. They don’t investigate both sides of a story or collaborate.

There must be a lot of righteous single blokes on STW.

    9 pages on STW
    23,000 complaints to BBC
Unions calling to a Police enquiry

    You couldn’t make it up!

“They’re not. I’ve just given to views for you”. Hard to make that up either – one to go into the modern archives of one-liners along with “economical with the truth” etc….

There seems to be a lot of people getting upset over a few words. The union leaders going as far as saying they (the Gov) should introduce a new law to prevent people saying this sort of thing as it ‘incites hatred’ towards strikers. HA!

GET A F’ing GRIP! he didn’t actually mean what he said. I think his tongue was about to bust through his sad middle-aged cheek.

If anything I think the worst part about his comments is the fact he was being rather hypocritical given his 6 figure salary!

He is very good at getting people worked up 😀

He only says things to get people,s back up things he says need to be taken as jokes ie he hates cyclists yet his wife is a keen cyclist.
the same about motorcyclists yet his 2 copresenters on top gear are very keen motorcyclist and own more than 1 bike each so if his wife and work mates dont take him to task over these remarks i think its safe to say nearly every think he says is meant a joke or to get people talking about him .

He was taking the piss out of the BBC. I just wished he’d not apologised and pointed out that fact to the nay-sayers and daily mail readers.
