Indeed. That’s a good part of the reason why I don’t own a 180bhp sports bike. If you’ve got a gun, one day you’re gonna pull the trigger, so to speak……]

Yes but it’s also a large chunk of the fun of having a motorbike for many riders.. the ability to go silly fast.

I recently sold one of my R1’s…. i was far too partial to seeing 150 on the clocks even just pootling to work and back. However… the Superduke that i replaced it with isn’t exactly slow 🙂

your SS shouldn’t be that shy at seeing 140 ?

Managed 105-110mph (indicated) in a 2.0GXL Mk3 Ford Cortina, down- hill with the wind behind me, did have a rather large Weber carb and sports exhaust.

Not fast by today’s standard but the whole car was vibrating and I remember watching the fuel gauge moving 😯 the car was never the same

140+ on several motorbikes, the CBR600 was he keenest to get there.

On 4 wheels it’s probably 110ish as one of seven crammed into a Jag going up the runway at Bembridge Airport on the Isle Of Wight in the mid eighties. That was at one of the infamous Britten Norman Barbecues. Everyone knew someone who worked there so we’d all blag tickets for the pi55 up of the summer. The guy driving claimed he knew where he could lay his hands on the keys to a plane. We were just sober enough to baulk at that!

85mph is the scariest top speed I’ve ever done.

It was in a 1966 SWB landrover, fitted with std 4.7:1 diff and a Rover P6 3.5ltr V8, drum brakes and Firestone SATs and I’d just finished rebuilding her. She wouldn’t go any faster as the V8 was valve bouncing by 85 and the gearbox sounded like it was about to explode!

    I was 18 and stupid

    I loved that car!

How about 133mph, via Sat Nav. speedo with 1 bike on the roof.

The car an unimpressive 120d bmw thrashed from new. Thankfully Thule bike carriers seem up for keeping your bike secure at this speed.

Bikes and track days- seen 178mph on a Fireblade 1000RR speedo on back straight at Snnerton, however suspect over reading speedo and at this speed found my eye balls vibrated making vision tricky.

145mph maybe a bit more GSXR flat out,on the back of a bike, being rather tall and having my hands on the tank the air got down my chest and lifted me off the seat so had to put my feet on the front of the pegs to brace myself, to say I shat myself was a bit of an understatement.

    Car 150 ish in a 355.

About 204mph in my Landrover Defender TD5.

Wait, no, that’s just what it felt like. Speedo was reading about 60mph…

They’re only rated to 120KPH, I’d be careful in future, I’ve seen one fail and the orange 5 that came off the roof was written off and three cars caught it on the way by, all claiming of his insurance too,,

In a car fastest was 150mph in A6 and 185 on a Hayabusa, with rain jacket on and at about 150 the hood popped out and behaved like a parachute, nearly ripped my head off…..

Can’t beat a bit of thrash-tuning to give a car a little more wind in its sails…

Somewhere around 150mph in a Porsche 928 in New Zealand. Public road. I was young and irresponsible then.

Been 140 on the roads in a newish Audi, which felt like nothing compared to sitting next to Kris Meeke through a test stage in the mk2 escort he’s driving in that video.

BMW 3 Series estate – Managed about 85-90 on the Mountain section of the TT course this year 😳 😳 😳

Whether was properly awful though – at that speed we had left all of the bikes behind after the Gooseneck!!! 😉

That would be the notorious accident blackspot where a cyclist was killed last year?

Nope. That would be a completely different road on the opposite side of the peak district.
