Rode the ‘man’ version in to work today, took 20mins (opposed to the usual 9 on the road bike) good fun though.

Both Raleigh Wayfarers with 3spd Sturmey Archers (Man version has a dynohub) stripped down and rebuilt over easter to their former glory!

V.Nice – i have one that i picked up from a car boot sale recently for £10.
Smooth ride, but painted with purple hammerite, so in the garage with all the other ‘vintage’ finds that are waiting for restoration!

What tyres are they? Assume you’ve added those or were 70’s tyres that durable!

The tyres on the man version are fairly old, not sure if they are the original though.

the ladies version has new tyres, but they were on it when I bought it.

These by the looks of it:

Just wait until you have to brake in the rain 😛

+1 for old Raleighs. My bike-shy Dad has one of these in the garage, hasn’t been on an outing since I was a teen and somehow bent the pedal axle. Looks nice, but always was way too small for me so can’t really comment on the ride quality. Do remember that braking was interesting.

i sold a couple of those when i worked in a lbs in the early 90s.
in fact, literally a couple, 2.
a guy and his wife, the guy had limited mobility in his joints, so we got him a ladies frame which was easier to lift his leg over.
he was over the moon with it, he even phoned the shop owner to say so.

yes, they are very comfortable to ride once you get used to the ‘sit up and beg’ position.

Ref brakes, yeh, there was a light sprinkling this morning and I did notice their effectiveness drop off dramatically!

My Raleigh Scorpio that was bought for me by my parents was so sh1t that ever buying another Raleigh would be an unlikely event for me. Funnily enough my boss at work said the same when I suggested a modern Raleigh road bike.
