Has anyone used both and which did you prefer. Or are there other alternatives worth considering like the Spesh SWAT?

No idea, but if the Granite Designs tool is built anything like their tyre lever/quicklink tool, it’ll break the first time you try to use it, then they’ll ignore your attempts to contact them.

..though I should note I also have one of their in-bar tubeless repair kits which has survived being used at least once.

Got an EDC light, Original threaded and V2 threadless also have the Spech version.

EDC light has no chain tool so not great if you break a chain.
Apart from that they’re much of a muchness.
Spech version is a tad quicker to get out and use but more of a pain if you need to break a chain.

I have both and would say they are both worth having, but the EDC is cheaper and slightly better.

yes was a big fan of my EDC in-steerer tool until a stem mangling crash wrote it off… replaced with the granite because it was miles cheaper but mainly because no tapping is required. i also bought the in-bar tubeless kit and chain tool.

the multitool is fine. the allen keys are annoyingly short (so are edc tbf) so only really of any use in emergencies, but i couldnt get enough leverage to loosed a saddle bolt. its neat and tidy, east to access and does not rattle. one downside is you can fit only the tool in there, no way you can sneak anything else in. the edc has that little pod tube where i kept a tenner and some spare slugs. i have not used the tyre lever, doesnt look great, and i tend to snap every tyre lever ive had! not used the chain tool either but the tubeless tool has saved me a couple of times, although the jabber did snap the first time i used it, it hasnt rendered it useless.

How did you destroy the edc in a crash! Must have been some impact to write it off completely.

i clipepd a pedal and ejected through the front door, i lay on the ground in the superman position and my bike came flying over my head and continued to ping pong down the hill (amazing how high they bounce!!) when i retrieved it my stem was twisted and steerer tube bent! i was lucky! but the EDC had to be drilled out!

EDC Lite has an 8mm bit (well, kinda – it’s made up of 2 other parts to get to 8mm), whereas I believe the Stash does not. Depends if your pedals, cranks, etc. need that 8mm. My pedals do, so I went EDC.

you being a clutz on a bike is hardly the fault of EDC.

EDC light has no chain tool

this confused me slightly. my edc has a chain tool in the composite carrier.

I’m pretty sure it’s an edc light as i didn’t need to thread the steerer (and i didn’t use the one up stem). tried to check, but their website is down.

Latest EDC doesn’t need the steerer to be threaded. Included a quicklink and chain-breaker tool too.

never for one second suggested that. just saying i went with granite after my edc was mangled and id knackered up the steerer threads. posting as a user of both systems – as per the OP.

    That makes sense.

i don’t think that the edc was being blamed for the crash, but with fear of being drawn into an internet misunderstanding i can’t resist saying, “a bad craftsman always blames his tools.”

Doesn’t everyone just use quicklinks? Who need a chaintool anyhow

Because you need to remove the broken link to attach a quick link
