Enter Shikari and Dinosaur Pile Up at the Usher Hall, Edinburgh on Monday night. I can’t wait! I also reckon it’ll be the last for a while…

Not really an Enter Shikari fan but I got tickets when Hundred Reasons supported them and the fans were just the absolute best. Totally welcomed the support bands, continued to rock out for the DJ between the sets (pits and surfers!) and exploded for the headliners, absolutely bloody joyous. I just got totally swept away with it. Awesome show.

(I bailed before the end and sped across town to see Hell Is For Heroes- randomly got a taxi with half of Hundred Reasons who were doing the same- and I’m a massive HIFH fan but there were never going to be circlepits during the filler music)

Saw Half Man Half Biscuit in Shrewsbury last night. Band and crowd both on top form with the bonus of a very rare live outing for the seasonal “It’s Cliched to be Cynical at Christmas”. Fantastic night.

Steve Mason in a village hall last night. A short out of the way venues tour playing solo electric. Amazing performance, good banter and a great sound. Everything from old beta band tunes to new songs from the forthcoming record. Up there with one of the best ever.

Last Friday was Katy J Pearson at Moles. A right laugh. My kids laughed that we were going to Moles, don’t know why, it’s older than me let alone them. Drank ‘too many’ plastic cup lagers.

Next is Ride and then Osees in the Spring.

I also see LCD Soundsystem dates are appearing in Europe for next Summer. I’m all over that if they do dates in the UK.

Sounds like a great gig Northwind 👌🏻 I actually got tix so I can see Dinosaur Pile Up again so if ES are as good as your gig it’ll be a bonus.

Went to see EMF at the 100 Club last night. They were great as always but it felt really weird being in a packed room with hundreds of people not wearing masks. Literally I saw two apart from ourselves. If that carries on surely it’s going to be rife before we know it.

Have tickets for Pigs x 7 tomorrow in Leeds but really not sure about being in a tiny venue like The Warehouse. Is it worth the risk?

Did two O2 gigs week before last – they needed neg lft or NHS double vacc or evidence of previous infection before entry.

I know what you mean, but you have to balance the risk against the mental health benefits of normaility.

Steve is brilliant – both in small and larger venues. From the Hare & Hounds to the Barbican, he can make the spaces work.

Bernard Butler was great in Worthing last week, played a selection from his back catalogue – including Suede songs! Had a great rapport with audience as well.

Surprise gig at The Fleece was announced the middle of last week, tickets on sale Friday morning with the gig on the 16th of January by Howling Bells! It’s to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the release of their first album, and I’m pretty sure I saw them at The Fleece on their first tour prior to the release of the album, along with The Joy Formidable and Chew Lips! After Juanita their lead singer went solo I’d pretty much given up on Howling Bells getting back together, so I was chuffed to bits at getting the email.

Tickets were obtained as soon as the sale went live at 10am. Roll on next month! 😎

So it turns out my first gig of 22 is going to be idles on first of feb. Rescheduled from last year… daughter’s boyfriend had got tickets to see them in manc and Sheff (they live in Newcastle) and decided coming back to Sheff on a Tuesday night is less of a pita than manny on a Friday so he’s let me have them. A great start to the year.

Got ticket to see Yard Act on the 7th, but our nearly three year old has a horrendous cough (waiting on her PCR result) so who knows what will happen. Bit paranoid about a sold out gig in a small pub anyway tbh.

Also got tickets for Dinosaur Jr and Enola Gay coming up.

Plenty of time for the WHs to split up and reform a couple of times before then

Just had a couple covid-cancelled so hopefully we’ll get to Colin Macintyre (Mull Historical Society) in a couple of weeks. Though it’d be kind of nice if Hundred Reasons rescheduled their tour as I’ve got a clash there, ****ing gutted- choose between 3 nights with the Hold Steady, or Glasgow for 100R and Hell Is For Heroes.

(Hold Steady Weekender in London is going to be savage though… It was damn nearly my last show before it all got shot down, and then their livestream weekender shows for 2021 were awesome but in a really bittersweet “remind me everything that I’m missing why don’t you” sort of a way. I’m definitely going to cry when they play We Can Get Together, I’ll probably cry quite a bit during random other songs too)

Got back just over a half hour ago from the Howling Bells gig, and it was every bit as good as I could have hoped! The band were just so delighted to be back together and in front of an audience, they haven’t played together for around seven years. This tour was in part a chance to see how everything gelled, but it was like they’ve never been apart. Juanita, their singer, told me that there’s every possibility of new material as a result, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

A great night and I’m still buzzing.

Well my first gig since 2019 has been cancelled, should have been This Is The Kit & Roddy Woomble on Saturday.

    But Scotland restrictions 😔

Saw Idles at Brixton Academy last night, my ears are still ringing, it was LOUD.  Love seeing a band with so much stage energy and proper aggression in the playing.

For any Exeter or East Devon gig goers, we’ve started a new monthly (and maybe twice monthly if it goes well) gig night in Ottery St Mary.

    Here’s this month’s…

@sadexpunk Ears still ringing from idles last night. So good. Looked lively in the mosh…

    @fingerbang
ride is still my “best gig ever”- at take2 club Sheffield around 1989 or 90. Saw them again supporting the cure in 2018 brought it all back.

Hopefully going to see bug club tomorrow night in Sheff if I can get back from the Wirral in time.

    @docrobster
it was, but it was also friendly. i started off up on the balcony as i was with my wife, but the last few songs i had to go down and join in. tried to get a few people to give me a leg up for a crowd surf but nobody seemed to know what i was asking. #grrrrrkidsthesedays #notliketheolddays 😀

we were a bit apprehensive leading up to it as we’d heard plenty of stories of organised gangs pickpocketing phones on a large scale in the earlier gigs (brixton especially) and headbutting people for no reason but sheffield had a real friendly vibe.

Idles gigs always been friendly in my experience. In fact, a little bit too friendly and not very punk like! Especially the singing of “Happy Birthday” and the guitarist singing shit pop songs in the middle of the gig!

Idles tomorrow night at The Barrowlands, it’s been a long wait for this one to come around. Hope it’s nice and rowdy. I’ll be turning 50 this year but still not to old for a mosh pit.

Cleopatrick in March, The Wedding Present in May and Pavement in October.

So glad my eldest lad(16) has the same taste in music.

@sadexpunk yeah we stayed up on the balcony. My wife was more interested in seeing jehnny beth. She refers to idles as “one of those bald old men shouting bands”🤷🏼‍♂️ My usual gig buddy didn’t want to risk it for covid reasons as he’s flying to the Caribbean tomorrow. I was hankering to go downstairs for a play but it wouldn’t have gone down well…

My pal did come with me to see bug club last night though. They were great in a much different way. 150 capacity room, foot high stage. Their drummer looked like he was having the time of his life. I’d definitely recommend seeing them if you get the chance.

Next up for me is self esteem in late March I think. At Sheffield octagon so should be great. Last saw a gig there in about 2006 I reckon. Feeling older every day. Already bald and shouty.

saw John Bishop at the Glasgow Pavilion last night, best laugh I’ve had in a few years, great fun. Sitting with mask on through the performance was uncomfortable mind you ..

On that, I’d say only maybe 30% of the audience were masked, despite the rules being reiterated over the PA system a few times.
